QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) Sorry LDF I know you are a smart guy so I must not be writing this clearly. You are confusing the system in place versus the decision that was made. The example I gave are laws that have been written that are overturned by the courts as violating constitutional rights. Remember the checks and balances? So a state government writes a law barring same sex couples to marry. The law gets overturned later and ruled unconstitutional. A state writes a law restricting abortion that is later overturned. We don't say the system that we use to write the laws is wrong and needs to be changed, do we? I'm surprised you can't follow that. Courts make decisions that get overturned on appeal because of constitutional issues. Do we then change the court system? The system didn't violate anyone's rights, the resulting decision did. In this case, if a universities system is all expulsions are adjudicated through the college president. How is that SYSTEM violating anyone's rights? I agree the decision probably was wrong and needs review by the courts. But any SYSTEM they had in place could still result in the same decision to expel. Name a system that could be in place that couldn't arrive at a decision that was unconstitutional? We can't even do that with our current legal system. ok, i understand what you are saying but you are trying to jam everything in a 1 case verdict fits all. you agree that the universities may have violated their civil rights. all i am saying is the president may have overstep his or her authority in expelling those he or she expelled by using a wide blanket. all i am saying is the students has rights. what they were doing is despicable. i am a minority and if i can see this, as much as i hate to admit it, they may have a huge maelstrom brewing. then the press will step in. there is something call due diligence, that the school may not have follow, in otherwords, dotting the I's and crossing the T's. ~~~ edit - Tex, i owe you an apology for coming across as a stupid jerk. you didn't do anything to deserve me treating you as such. again i am sorry. the end. at least for me peace.

The official, Predict the 2015 White Sox record thread
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
i put my foot into it, but i am still convince of the sox success this yr. so my vote is the 90+. when the sox warm up and start to hit, i think they will start to thrive on all cylinders. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 05:02 PM) First week of Spring Training I was annoyed by all of the posters coming in and saying "Spring Training stats don't matter." Now I am wondering where these people went... The Sox know where both of these guys were coming into the season. Everyone's gushing over Sanchez line all of a sudden (where his average = his slugging) but it's not like it changes his offensive profile in the MLB. I am still where I was prior to ST, Sanchez should get it and they Micah can hit his way into at AAA. Selfishly, I'd rather watch Micah out there but being objective Sanchez has a case. Something else to consider is that Sox can effectively ruin Sanchez's value by bringing him up and having him sport a Darwin Barney-esque line. Sure he's a defense first guy but he can probably go down to Charlotte and put together another good offensive season. call out posters who said things.... i like and i will bite. i can't remember if i was one of those posters you mention, but i still haven't change my mind, based on my own reasoning. now that reasoning and 2 cents is worth well 2 cents. i like Sanchez and still believe he should go north. my problem is MJ has done nothing but a great job and is making a name for himself. now, his defense, is it good enuf to bring north??? only the coaches know that for sure. if MJ goes north, i can't say much, i will be howling at the moon kinda of protest. don't get me wrong, MJ is a very exciting player but my concerns is are the sox rushing him, due to lack of players, vet players, we or the coaches can not judge it properly. but i can see Sanchez be a part of this team and a vital part maybe as next yr. but that will be a another day.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) Sanchez is young enough with enough upside that he needs to be playing everyday in order to develop. If he doesn't earn the starting 2B job with the Sox then he needs to be starting at SS/2B at Charlotte. Beckham is as good or better than what most teams have as their utility infielder. We just have a hard time seeing it that way because he underperformed so much as a starter. this statement has been made many times by many posters. i just thought of something right now. so pls, do not take my response as a personal afront, but using you post as a magnet, and no offense. so many are saying he is still young enuf...... when does that "young enuf" stops being used? is MJ consider young enuf?? but his defense could use some seasoning. there are variables when someone is using the simple statement of young enuf. it does apply to all.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) I think you are misinterpreting it. It seems like Mark had built up a lot of anger and he had no interest in being friendly with Baldwin. well, then i was wrong. i took it as a friendly banter. my bad. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) Taken with Carroll as a long man, it makes sense. i too will take an arm.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) I think you have a really tight 1-4 in the AL Central. You don't have a 95 win team, but I also think all of the teams are capable of winning 85-90 games if things bounce their way. Then there is a pretty decent drop off to the Twins. a real nice topic. i see 2 divisions. NL west and yes, AL central. nl east is easily Wash. AL East Bos, NL central Stl and AL west i am not too sure here.

QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is a players desire to win. Sure money talks and many players consider their family and or team chemistry before signing with a team but I think high up on the list is winning a ring. I'm not suggesting we'll win one anytime soon but we're not looking to bad now and for the future. good point, there were many times in the past, where a player would say, he was taking less, b/c of the opportunity to win a WS ring is greater with this team over that. nice catch. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 03:57 AM) Oh? When someone treats you like s*** and you finally work up the guts to say f*** you to his face, that is teasing? for me it is perception, i took the whole comment as a friendly banter. the way, he said afterword "how much that felt great" something to that extent. also a friendly banter from JB about getting him a drink. in other words, treating him as a rookie all over again. but that is me and how i took the comment. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2015 -> 01:06 AM) http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2015/...w-negotiations/ You might want to rethink that stance. Comprehensive/holistic look at the entire case that paints neither side favorably, the Astros nor Close (Jeter's management group, also). If the odds (because of the unusual nature of his particular repair) are 80-90% that he (Aiken) doesn't return to form or improve after surgery, the White Sox would be gambling to take him. Sure, in the 4th, but not with a first round draft pick. Not to mention the fact that you're pushing his expected major league arrival back another year...when the club's entering its peak competitive window starting now. He might be able to pitch in late 2016/Winter Ball, but, even without complications, you're talking about 2019/2020. It feels like the White Sox are 2/3rds focused on the near five years and only 1/3rd on building up the minor league depth/strength. nice post, my opinion, i think the window of opportunity is with in the next 2-3 yrs for players to move on up. so i am in at a 2016 windows of some sorts.

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 08:13 PM) Right. If the Sox can get rid of Danks at some point he might be a decent option. You'd think that even if they can't retain Samardzija they'll dip into the top-end starter market, though. That might preclude a back-end signing. imo, there will be several factors that will take priority. the actual performance of both Jeff S and Danks. lastly how the rest of the starters do, outside Sale and Q. this will be a very important yr and the magnifying glass will be train on all players. all that aside, Mark B has always had a great relations with the sox org and fans. -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) I'm an English major in my free time, so I should know better. If you ever want to know about the tenants of the romantic movement of the early 19th century, I am your guy. I do want to work in a front office, however. Some 2016 players to start keeping an eye on: Seth Beer, Blake Rutherford, Herbert Iser, Cavan Biggio, Zach Collins. i am starting to hear Mac Marshall-sp, Bolt-of and Rhett Wiseman-of. they may climb into the 1rd. i am wondering who is dropping.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 07:26 PM) I just don't see the Sox taking a 2B/SS at #8 overall. There's already a ton of depth at those spots. I'd much rather take a pitcher or a power hitter at that spot. that is the thing that has been bothering me for the past several weeks. the rumblings and this is the 3rd i think, mock that has the sox picking him at ss, even when there were some notable arms being available. i didn't want to mention it, i didn't want it to seem as i didn't have faith in Anderson. the problem is why??? why are they thinking the sox at 8 will pick anything other than an arm??

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) Charlotte rotation could actually be pretty fun with Rodon, Drabek, Beck, and Johnson. i think that will be a really nice rotation..... i forgot, where is Danish going to pitch??

i thought in the beginning of spring training, the job was Sanchez who was to suppose to keep it warm for MJ, who was pegged to be the future 2b. MJ performance was the factor that may have change that idea.

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) southsidesox.com brought up a good point; where do we stand with the 2B battle? Micah Johnson and Carlos Sanchez's numbers up to this point: Johnson- .333/.388/.467 1 HR, 6 RBI, 3/4 SB, 3 errors Sanchez- .355/.429/.355 0 HR, 4 RBI, 1/1 SB, 1 error One thing in Sanchez's favor is that he's already on the 40-man roster while room would have to be created for Johnson. Johnson brings game changing speed and more of an impact with his bat, though his defense can be shaky at times. Sanchez provides good defense and is solid all-around, though he doesn't stand out in any area. wow, that is close. Sanchez is having a real nice, quiet spring. this is a choice that is hard for a coach to make, and i am glad i am not making it.

Another injured pitcher, Fedde, actually was overslot still. Giolito was just south of $3 million as 16th pick in his draft class. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucas_Giolito nice post, great find. thanks

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 06:44 AM) Tommy John isn't the death sentence that people made it out to be (My mother had actually had it done in late February.), unfortunately it's a common procedure now and some pitchers get better after having it. It sounds like you forgot that Aiken was the consensus top player in last year's draft, even when news broke out about him having a naturally smaller UCL, teams came out and said that they still would have taken him number one without hesitation. There was even a possibility that Aiken would have become a free agent, I'm sure that 29 GMs would be comping at the bit too get him into their system. I also disagree with what you said about the best player available being a guy with the highest ceiling and healthy. In regards to what we know about TJ now in regards to pitching prospects that is a completely arcane way of looking at things. If you had to pick between Clayton Kershaw (Who's going to sit out a year to recover from TJ) or Sonny Gray to build your team around, you're picking Clayton Kershaw even with the TJ and 1 year recovery time. And since we're talking about another prospect in Aiken, lets bring up guys like Giolito and Hoffman. In terms of accomplishments, Giolito is universally thought of as the best pitching prospect in all of baseball. And just look at all the pitchers that have had TJ and came back stronger than before. You also forgot that Jeff Hoffman was a highly successful college pitcher. College being the key word there, you know that college players are automatically more seasoned then their high school counterparts, right? Jeff Hoffman was already polished as a pitcher, any time he spent in the minors would just be fine tuning and more seasoning. He exexpected to mske his mlb debut next year as a 23 year old. If you're the Sox and draft Aiken but you're unwilling to sign him just because he won't sign under slot then you’re insane. Keep in mind the sox do not have picks in the second and third round this year. Yes, you do get the #9 pick in next year's draft automatically but a draft without a first, second and third rouround picks would be a huge blow to the farm. Thats my two cents. players who are drafted, esp pitchers are not a sure thing to make it to the majors, with or without having a clean bill of health. i am just going to reply on the underslot signing or posters expectations of that. the idea of posters saying, just sign him for underslot money, and then mention well look at Hoffman last yr. that is the main point of my post. Hoffman did not sign for underslot money. he signed for money that was slotted for that pick. the amount he got, compared to where he was suppose to get, before the injury, is a huge difference. that difference makes it look to be underslot, signing.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) I watched This Is Where I Leave You on a flight last night, and I know it got killed by critics, but I really liked it. Really a fan of almost all the cast however. i really like it as well, a really feel good of a movie, esp with Fonda looking hot. sometimes movies are for fun simple enjoyment. another one in that same category is Draft Day.
