QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 03:22 AM) I wouldn't break the bank for one player, I like what the Sox did last year and spread the bonus pool around on a group of players. I would like to see the Sox trade for more international cash. If they're going to over spend, then I would like to see the Sox go all in on this guy in 2016 Kiley McDaniel: "One more name has been brought up as a high end guy in the 2016 class: Venezuelan C Abraham Gutierrez, who trains with former big leaguer Carlos Guillen. Gutierrez is average to plus across the board with precocious all fields power and the tools to stick behind the plate. He’s obviously also very young, so it’s very early to throw lofty comparisons around like with Maitan, but scouts have said Gutierrez’s overall game is along the lines of Mike Piazza." I say this because I would like to see the Sox start investing heavily into the Catching position. You have to build your team up the middle and thats starts with the battery, I know that there is a dearth of elite catching prospects currently, but if you want to buck that trend then you have to start investing heavily into the position, whether thats in the draft or the July 2nd market. yeah, i remember him. he was my, i think 2 choice, behind VLad. i still would like them to do it once and over spend, after July 2.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:48 AM) 'pen wouldn't help much in his case. Can't just be FB-CH there unless they are both special pitches. yup, again you are right. thanks for the info.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:43 AM) i'd go with Yadier Alvares, he could be a mainstay in the rotation for years to come. I read somwhere that MLB might allow him to sign before July 2nd, if thats the case I hope the Sox jump on him. i wouldn't b/c of the high salary that will be thrown at him.
-
if Hawkins is crushing AA, i really think the sox will keep him there and move him up to AAA in late July.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:45 AM) He's got a sinking FB that can touch 95 as his main pitch, and a very good change up, but the lack of a real breaking pitch is an issue. Though it sure looked like he had a nice slider or cutter there. If that becomes a real pitch, I'll feel a lot better about him. Without it he's Charlie Shirek, maybe a little better. interesting, i never thought of it that way. i thought without a 3rd pitch, he would be in the pen.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:40 AM) Beck isn't looking too bad. Just hit 95 on the stadium radar. wow, i didn't know he could throw that fast. way to go.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:25 AM) There are huge falloffs after the Cubs at 5 and White Sox at 15 to the next tiers...Royals still trapped in the bottom 4 despite their World Series appearance. Tigers, Phillies (a TON of money), Dodgers, Blue Jays, D-Backs....losing money. Yankees only at +$8.1 million. Royals and Twins did pretty well financially. excellent info. question, with the sox at 15, is that good or bad??

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:17 AM) Only if you hit Sammy Sosa over the head with it. Oops, I think that was Puerto Rican rum. you have been on a roll this past week.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 02:02 AM) I do not think it will be all that long till he is starting for good in Chicago. and i sure his agent agrees with you.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) There's also the consideration that "due process" isn't strictly and exclusively a constitutional concept. If you are a teacher working under a tenure contract, for example, you can only be fired for cause and you must receive due process to show that there is cause. This can be through administrative hearings etc., not through the legal system. I was originally using the term in that broader sense, though constitutional due process should apply as well given the constitutional issues. Public universities are free to set admissions standards, but it doesn't follow that they are then free to accept or expel someone for any reason at all. Think of a government job. Yes, the government can absolutely set professional qualifications, but you cannot be fired or denied a job because of your political/social viewpoints. If you went around shouting racist chants in the workplace, that would be different, but if you kept it to yourself at work and attended KKK rallies at night, you couldn't be fired for it. edit: and just to be clear, I don't think the students are pressing any sort of constitutional violation claims here, even if its pretty clear that that's what the university did. you are correct.... very good. but i like to clarify one thing. administrative hearings was a by-product of due process and what it mean. just like someone org using roberts rules of order as the guide book, but by-laws is an extension of the roberts rules order. re bold, excellent. re 2 bold, not as of yet. but i wouldn't be surprise. even if it is to get their stupid, hateful idioms.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 12:00 AM) I have concerns about his bat speed and is going to be fun to see his body develop just b/c of the pedigree, i still would take a chance, actually next int'l signing, i want the sox to break the bank and sign alot. the farm while doing very good, is still in a fragile state. the sox can't even find a decent prospect to use as a backup, they still need develop time.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 01:02 AM) Shows how thin the Sox still are. i think 1 of the old threads was about how thin the sox are really, in accordance of salary spent this yr.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) THREAD BROUGHT BACK TO PAGE 1 for LDF ok, kick a guy when he is down, now i know what kind of person you are..... uh ugh.

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 12:26 AM) balta, i am using this post to say, i am or will be back to discussion, i am going back to look an old thread. if i came across angry or like a jerk, i am sorry. i didn't mean to be > to you or and anyone else. ok, i found the site, the biz of baseball, it explained the breakdown of the tv deals, there are several heading in the total media deal. local tv/cable, regional tv/cable/ internet/, nationals tv/cable/internet. this total come to a substantial more than was org being listed. a poster wrote with the link http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...94552&st=45 now according to the valuation breakdown, forbe which is a great source of info, but is also limited to what is not part of the company, the company which is describe in and by mlb. on;y list what the sox owners discloses. there are sub-companies that does not disclose their books. the last time i had this discussion, i may have made some real great posters really mad at me, maybe b/c of the style i write or talk. i really mean no offense and i hope someone can prove me wrong. i don't mind a total biiitch slap every once in a while. peace

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) $25 million-ish should be "new TV money". Fox TV signed a new contract with MLB that started in 2014. Every team in MLB should have gotten $25 million in "new money" compared to 2013 from that new TV contract on top of what they got beforehand. That's on top of the TV money they already had. That money is already balanced into the revenue and expense streams. In fact, the new FOX TV money probably just offset some of the losses from advertisers leaving a team that had been a loser 2 years in a row. 2 things, i need to get going, i will continue this later.... ok. earlier someone posted a link to what the sox has made and will make on the combine tv deals. if someone can find that link. fne..... but i do have to go... sorry/

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) Probably due to his build, he is 6'1 230lbs, so built more like a fullback than a baseball player. I think the concerns around him are related to him not being that athletic or quick. In my mind he is the antithesis of Jared Mitchell, great bat to ball skills, low K rate, and a good command of the strike zone. I am not sure why he is not climbing really, I am guessing there are questions related to his size and defense because I don't see what else would be holding him back. Slash line this year is - .304/.513/.684 compared to Schwarbers .358/.464/.659 in an inferior conference in his junior season and I think he is probably on track to being a better pro. I like him as a player and I like that if the Sox draft him, given where he is projected to go in the draft, they will likely get him at a discount from full slot. as i said, in ref to your opinion and the numbers, i can find no fault. i am just thinking of how he would deal as a pro. comparing him to last yr pick, is ok, something i do not like to do. i will use it as a platform as a probability. long college season. re bolded - unless we have some inside info, only the pro's knows why not? i think it not based on defense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) That new Fox contract money should have counted as money for last year and it should have been about $25 million. Basically 85% of operating profit of the team last year, in the Forbes numbers, was that money. again, where is the margin list of profits. let me understand this, r u saying only 26 mil was the tv money??
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) TV money is already factored in, and accounted for in the profit margin. do they have the actual break down of the profit margin, there is a lot of profits the team hide form this type of search. thru other sub companies. anyway, pls think about this, the tv deal is worth as i said, more than 150 mil, that mean in all other ways, the sox only made, what, 60 mil in other forms of profits. if you say yes, then how were they able to survive all these yrs, esp during the 90's when there players salary was close to 130+.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 06:59 PM) What due process has been established to expel someone from a university? Are you suggesting it becomes a civil matter for a court to decide? If not the courts, then it would be the university. What law established who at the university judges the case? you really do not know what due process means. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Due_process now, the school admin arbitrarily took it upon themselves in dealing, rather harshly with the situation, thereby creating, what i would assume be a huge civil actions. that admin, while trying to do good, screwed the pooch. those students, i do not care for what reasons, have rights, which the school admin did not follow. i am sure they school board will deal with that at a later time.

QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) Watched the third Hobbit movie last night. It was a half of a film with a bunch of crap thrown in to increase the length. 2 Stars: Would not recommend. yeah they took a lot of liberties with it but i like it in a way that he help make the transition to the trilogy easier to deal with. esp the main characters of the trilogy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) One more thing I neglected to post... $31.9 million profit estimated, right? Check this out: 2015 estimated player payroll $111.5 million 2014 player payroll $ 90 million. At least $21 million of it has already been spent. you are really not adding the tv money into that revenue. that deal is more than 150+ million. we had this whole conversation already with some one else providing a link to the tv / cable deal.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) Depends on their individual situations, age, experience level. Right now, with the unprecedented Moncada deal, as well as Olivera/Rusney Castillo/Y. Tomas signings...the market has blown up so much that it wouldn't be prudent to go after these guys in an opening bidding process against the rest of MLB. We've been 2/3 in this whole thing, missing on Dayan and hitting it huge with Alexei and Jose Abreu. (Not to mention Jose Contreras when he came over from the Yankees, along with El Duque in 2005). If we were professional stockbrokers, getting 3 out of 4 "big decisions" right would be considered pretty darned amazing. That said, the White Sox should be closely monitoring Vladimir Gutierrez and Yadier Alvares. Those two pitchers, in particular. all of what you said is true, but now with these players, they are seeing teams throw huge about of cash at them, it will take a rare individual to pick a team and not let the money influence their decisions.

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) at work, i just watched for the umpteen time, draft day. a very good movie, at least for me. every time i see that movie, i keep thinking, ben affleck is 1 lucky dude. whew..... i saw that there is a new James Bond coming out in Nov..... this winter is going to be great for movies.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) The team does a blogger call fairly regularly. We have been on them previously on many other occasions. They are always interesting, and we are very thankful the White Sox do them. It is a great opportunity that most teams don't provide to people outside of the traditional media outlets. esp last yr and now with the continuation of the rebuilding of the systems. all the new blood in the system and we as fans, or should i say, i like to know more about them, their growth, their success. this is sox baseball at its best
