QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 12:43 PM) I don't think baseball players try harder because it "counts". It's just the nature of baseball that you don't have to try that hard to still play at an elite level. Lots of standing around with small bursts of energy. it is not that the nhl all stars don't try, it is b/c there is a huge chance of injury. take away the aggressive checking and you have what many saw. i remember when mike keenan was the all star coach, he made them play defense and check. that was a good game. but he got a lot of flak from the owners for that. i think it is time to hang up the all star games.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 02:57 AM) Exactly. Micah is the proverbial lump of clay. He has a real chance to be a high-impact player if he can steal often and efficiently. sorry, buti am seeing this nice visual of this. .... i like it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 02:13 AM) I think it's more about setting a "team mindset." There have been some seasons where Rios and Ramirez, for example, seemed like they ran a lot more. I'm sure this move is aimed specifically at Eaton and Micah Johnson. i like that, a team mindset, to be aggressive on the base path, while at bat, and on defense. ulta aggressive, get the fans involve. i like it.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 03:46 AM) I had a nice time today at Soxfest. I'm disappointed that Hahn didn't announce that the White Sox obtained another starting pitcher this weekend at Soxfest. It would of been great to announce that James Shields signed with the White Sox. I wish I had more confidence in the bottom of our rotation of Noesi and Danks, but I simply don't. I'm afraid that the bottom of our rotation is going to be so bad we won't contend in 2015 and JR will have another white flag trade this summer. i am with you, 1 sp short term ..... but oh well. in a round about way, the sox did. they just went the internal rt. Rodon is pencil in.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 26, 2015 -> 01:22 AM) I know what you mean. I've talked loads of s*** to cub fans through the years myself but that's a fan thing. As far what anyone in the cubs FO thinks about the Sox, I could care less. They have their own problems. I also think the media over blows it juuuuuust a bit to get the fans worked up. The butthurt comments from cub fans about what Samardzija said was entertaining. I think Jeff's comment was his inner Sox fan coming out and the comments from cub fans showed their bitterness over him being on the south side now. Ya know that's gotta sting! but here is another positive from it, if it starts up that whole crosstown rivalry again, it will be good from sox baseball. the fans will really get into it. i hate to say this, chi sox fans are a little fanatical and we have proved it in the past.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 05:36 PM) The Sox had Tim Raines around a lot never seemed to help but I'll keep an open mind. but when you have a whole group of plow horses, you can't expect a thoroughbred to appear.

2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Wish this was the Sox. i kinda wish as well. when i was mentioning him as an option, someone pointed out the LH hitting in Adam and the SW htting in Melky. plus i really thought he would go a team that maybe can get him 350+ at bats. then now looking at the price tag, this is not JR move. -
dc is where i get most of my mock draft updates. then i go and look at the major on i kept a link to. this lack of info if killing me. i know it is their offseason and school and crap like that. but it is killing me. can't wait for spring training. the 1 thing that i failed in, not keeping up with my blackhawks or bulls. dang it, this was a great offseason in baseball, esp in sox baseball.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) Vince is a bit of a loose canon. He had a lot of trouble during his playing days in NY. IIRC he and KW got into it many years ago at a Cubs/Sox tilt when he was a minor league imstructor for the Cubs. The Sox wouldn't let him sit in the dugout during the game which was their right. There supposedly was a pretty crazy argument between the two around the batting cage. Hopefully, he has matured and can get better results from these guys on the bases. IMO, however, if he can make 25 steal guys 50 steal guys during spring training, he probably wouldn't be available. as you said, maturity/.... if not and this experience is failing, termination.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) i like this list, i know it is based on your opinion and many have different opinions and esp how how it was decided. i agree with your 1-6 great list. that is what many should be really excited about. those prospects. now your 7&8 well i just don't know, esp Davidson, just b/c they stumble a little should they be not looked at?? but that is where i see your 7, 8 9 being tied with Jace Fry - sp - #19. Thompson need to come on down, somewhere in the 15 range. i thing Micker - 15 should be #11 or 12. i really line Ynoa, Jake Peter, Myles Jaye and think they are close to each other somewhere after #15. there are a couple of players selected last yr in the top 10 that i am kinda of intrigue with. maybe wishful thinking on my part. there are also a couple of pitchers on the list last yr, that i like alot but i will do a wait and see. but hell those are my opinions. here are the rest of what i was talking about. btw, a great list and what a way to start this yr with the sox prospects. Adam Lopez - sp - 17 ranked. ~~~ Onelki Garcia - pitcher - ranked 19 and i still like Andrew Mitchell - pitcher - ranked 20. man do any remember how bare this was several yrs ago....

i am rehashing this post as a catch all post, for now. after the major success of the soxfest and all the feel good, kool-aid sox drinking, i really to hope and pray the sox FO comes out with a major kick arse advertising slogan. something that is catchy like in the old days, "good guys wear black" too bad adding a little of the blawkhawks commercial of "you may not know them, but" with them showing hockey scenes. this team as it is, can help the sox to really turn this around, build up the momentum for going into the dog days of summer. when the sox will be in the thick of it, playoff run. sox in 15

QUOTE (MAX @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) 210M for a mediocre team. I wonder how long cashman will survive. yeah, those bastards have a great TV deal. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) I really hope the mechanical changes they made in Sept make a difference, though I am not holding my breath. at least, we as fans has the right attitude..... hope.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Exactly Dick. As a Sox fan, why should I care what Ricketts or anyone else affiliated with the cub organization thinks? My focus is on the 2015 White Sox and that's it. Let the cubs people say what they want, means nothing to me. this has always been a action reaction situation between the fans of the northside and the sox loyals. this kind of remind me of all the stuff that use to happen before they really started the cross town games, and have the org play nice with each others. i love it. best, way to make them eat their words. make the playoff and more.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 12:37 AM) Hahn said he was looking for an acquisition and also said Saladino would be a top internal candidate. It seems the Sox have really soured on Davidson. Even Buddy Bell's effort to spin him up was half hearted and he mentioned how hard it is to hit, and failure rate. The minor league guys did seem a little more hopeful with Johnson. They think he tweaked his mechanics a bit just trying to succeed. They still think he can get back to where he was. i just don't know. if i am reading this, and i am looking between the lines, it appears as just maybe, they are trying not to let the hype get out of hand.

QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Anyone else think we may carry Geo Soto as our 3rd C/DH vs LHP? Maybe even some 1B letting Abreu DH vs LHP? on the cheap..... yeah and hope he can produce.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) Well, personally, I wouldn't recommend cocaine, heroin, weed or any of the other stuff, and only drink in moderation, it just isn't worth the cost... but it might help the writing. Just funning you, man. The anecdotes include drunken groping of waitresses at some of Denver's swankiest places, where he's actually been officially banned from, as well as numerous sexual harassment lawsuits against the Broncos FO, according to a woman I work closely with, who worked a long time at Dove Valley, and somehow, none of it ever even makes the local sports radio, as far as I know. And then there was this: http://www.denverpost.com/ci_23663809/bron...att-russell-tom "The drunken driving incidents involving Russell and Heckert have led to a potential greater concern about the front-office culture at Dove Valley. The perception is these are a bunch of guys having a good time watching tape." "Are they perfect? No. But there are a lot of really, really, really good people working here. And to say we have a culture problem here that centers around alcohol, I just don't believe that." "Indeed, the punishment could have been more severe. According to a Colorado State Patrol report, Russell had a blood-alcohol content of .246 — more than three times the legal limit when he was arrested after he hit a Breckenridge police SUV. Heckert, a former general manager with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, had a blood-alcohol content of .162 upon his release from jail seven hours after he was arrested June 11, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department." These guys weren't just drunk, they were Fisk/LaRussa smashed. For the locals like oldsox - If Dove Valley were in Jeffco, Elway and his boys would be doing time. wow, many thanks.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
LDF replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) Well said. Fortunately for the Sox, Danks will be in the final year of his contract in 2016. If he outperforms expectations this year, Hahn can get a little creative and deal him to open up some cap space for 2016. The good news is, we have Rodon waiting in the wings to take his spot. Dealing Danks would open $15 million in payroll. They can use that $ to help secure Sharks extension AND/OR perhaps they can use that projected savings on a player they can acquire this year? If they look into signing Shields to a 2 year $46 million deal, then the Sox would still be in a position to extend Shark assuming they do in fact deal Danks. It may seem crazy to add another $23 million in payroll this year, but damn... The possibility is exciting. Hahn is good at being a GM, but he is no magical wizard who can move players, if there isn't a team willing to trade. there is no market for them, plain and simple. this payroll and players are what the sox will have. yeah the sox will loose a player or 2 thru attrition, but the farm will be ready to start to produce, at least supply the missing pieces. the time to make any additions would be now. btw, the sox has Rodon pencil in to be with the team this yr. with the hype and the sox free good talking, Jeff S may be the only player i can see the sox signing, and then the sox can claim they added to the payroll and then call it a day. as you said the possibility is indeed exciting, if the sox would finish with what they started this yr. this is something to think about, can the sox make it out of the AL with this team, i say yes, but it may be close. can the sox really compete, on paper against the NL with they rotations that some of them are assembling...... no. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) Unlike last year, Sox actually have a tradable surplus in the pen, if they were inclined to trade for a prospect or three. trading with the team still being thin with prospects, has to be done with a real good plan on what they, the sox want to accomplish. i have more confidence in the pen with what the sox have assemble, and what is in the minors, than in the starting rotation.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jan 24, 2015 -> 09:01 PM) Adam Eaton: The Reporter Adam gets Conor to crack a little smile! how can anyone not like the sox fans attitude. plus he, Adam remind me a lot of Darren Pang with his calmness in front of the camera. great job.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 25, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) Check out the comments section of Facebook on CSN Chicago's stories on that quote and the quote about letting Rizzo talk all he wants. Cubs fans were spewing crazy venom for Jeff over that. Comments that included "he was a terrible QB, and now he's a terrible pitcher", and "You sucked when you were in the bullpen you bum, and "You are not worth that big contract you signed with the Sox". Northside's finest. unless i missed something from last nite to now, those idiot from the northside minor league team, still don't have their facts right. what contract are they talking about that he signed??? btw Chiliihead great job in finding this. i love it.
