the best way to counter anything from the northside is just to win and win big. then let them choke on their envy.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
LDF replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) There is no decent starting pitcher who is going to be available for $2 million who we wouldn't get on account of Viciedo being in the way. If someone coming off TJS is available for $1-2 million I'm sure we'll have talked to them and have feelers in for whenever that person is willing to sign. and you are 100% correct, however if the sox brass are going to use salary spent, some money can be saved with DV. the sox needs to find other ways to continuing the rebuild. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) How is signing LaRoche, Duke, Robertson, Bonifacio, and Cabrera AND trading for Samardzija and Jennings lip service? The Sox made so many improvements this offseason, and they are in much better shape to contend. That's getting stuff done. That's actually doing what needs to be done. did i say that the sox never improved this yr???? show me where i did say anything of the sort. i said the sox haven't finished the rebuilding, and i don't they would do anymore excepts for backups.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) You should always be looking to improve your roster, whether it be by trade of a FA/waiver pick-up. But I don't think they NEED to trade anyone now. (well maybe Viciedo) exactly, DV and his 4.0+ mil a yr contract. and use the money to improve. even by using half of that 4 mil for a backup is still money saved and maybe used to get another sp. -
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) Sox won a world series, and not much changed. And that was with cub teams that were horrible in 05-06 all great points, the northsiders has this mystic of loosing and the fans will embrace they all the more. the sox need to have a cut throat attitude and win, who gives the fvvcke of the other team, continue to win for consecutive yrs with exciting players and the fan base will turn around.

in actuality, disappointed is the wrong word to use, or is it. maybe its the context of the sentence. i acknowledge that Hahn and the sox have done a fantastic job in rebuilding esp in a short time. that is a given. i am a little sad / angry that in my opinion the job is not yet done or competed. i have a feeling that the sox are going to see what they have in Erik Johnson, Rodon and maybe even Beck. again seeing if these players are ready or not. if they were not going to continue with the rebuild, then why even bother to rebuild at all, why trade for Jeff S??? why do the lip service of convincing the fans that they, the sox will compete.... oh i see, to sell tickets.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 03:11 PM) The team has really fallen down a notch since Crawford got back. It isn't his fault or anything... that is just the timing. They just aren't as crisp right now. Too many atypical mistakes. have you notice that everytime Crawford is injured and he comes back, his game is really affected for a long while? i know it is b/c of the time off, but the hawks needs to play thru. second, any glaring mistakes that players make are really magnified. b/c the goalie is not as sharp to stop the puck?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) Can you repeat the question please? oh man, i am sorry.... even i need to think what i was trying to say. good catch. the question is, why do the sox need to trade anyone, the sox finally got a great team. -
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 01:43 PM) Why do we care what Tommy Boy thinks about the sox? This is the same guy that finally gets to rebuild Wrigley, and he f***ed it up on the first try! We get to see outfielders struggle to not his scaffolding in april and may! Bingo, great post. Tom the idiot is trying to cover up his incompetence.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) Why would a team trade for a player who was a free agent a few weeks ago? Unless the Sox are paying half his contract, which would be even more ridiculous. We get it, Melky is your new Alex Rios, but he's not going anywhere anytime soon. pls explain this to me, why do the sox need to trade anyone, the sox finally got a great team. ??? -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) Lol...talk about spinning. Not one person is arguing the validity of Tom's statement. We all know the Cubs draw better than the Sox. Again, the initial statement was regarding who offered the better fan experience for children. Until children start buying their own tickets, attendance numbers really don't matter in this discussion. At the end of the day, Ricketts clearly took a cheap shot at the Sox to cover up a weakness in the Wrigley experience. There really is no denying this. But go ahead and keep defending the Cubs owner who has literally accomplished nothing on the baseball field. i would like to make a minor correction, but you are right in what you said. Tom the idiot took a cheap shot at the Sox to cover up the fact the his own family enjoys the sox more.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 07:08 AM) Does anyone else think Doug Fister is now a possibility for the Sox since Scherzer went to Washington? according the Wash, they want to hold on to Fister, he will command less in FA rt. second, either way, wash is a great trading partner b/c the sox can fill their missing pieces with a package of prospects. second Philly and cole their sp. lastly cincy second what should the sox trade anyone..... this team will still get to the wild card. it is still much better that last yr club. anything can happen. i just don't like to rely on luck, in this case a huge amount of luck. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 11:27 PM) Ricketts is an idiot. Also, he's hideous looking. He looks like a squirrel on crack. oh man that is sooo funny. reminds me of hi8s kind of comment. i think i am going to steal this. many thanks squirrel on crack.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 11:52 PM) I'd assume that starts and ends with Rodon. thinking that it does and knowing is 2 different things. with rumors pages abound a meeting of Wash and Sox have never been mention nor has anything ever been leaked of what would it cost the Sox. that is why i am a little apprehensive when i hear suggestions. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 11:52 PM) The 2 teams who went to the world series last year won wild card play in games. If you're a division contender, you're a world series contender. there is really ideal formula that can be used to get a team to the playoff and more.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) I agree, we've made many moves that make us a contender for the AL Central. Spending some more to acquire/sign a Zimmerman, Scherzer, or Shields would move us from division contenders to World Series contenders. We've gone this far, so why not finish it off? i am going with the idea that Zimmerman will not be a long term solution and getting him in a walk yr will be just dandy.
-
i have mention this in the past, like last yr. there has to be a standard base on a criteria given by the baseball experts to judge prospect and listing criteria's. too much inconsistency in the grading of the young prospects. ex.... prospect A make the top 100 based on potential - age 22 college pick prosect B make it base on what he actuall did in the minors. - age 22 int'l signing. edit, prospect B did all he can to show what he has, yet prospect A makes it base on potential. that is not right.

QUOTE (staxx @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) We're lucky he's done this. What business owner invests ~30 million to a horrible team. We can't expect nor desire any more. he spent the money based on the owners discussed profit margin. Hahn even mention how much JR will spend. now later Hahn mention that they might go over. the money is there, Hahn and JR mention that the fans needs to come out and support the team. if the fans via ticket sales are there, then the Sox will spend more. the Sox are talking about spending what is on the books of commitment made by the fans, via advance ticket sales. this is the same kind of BS that he did during the 90's when the sox really had a group of players tied up with good salary. all i am saying is 1 more SP is needed. the fans will come out in droves to watch this team, a team that the fans saw build first hand for this next season. there already hype going on with this team.... can anyone imagine how much more if the sox invested and got Zimmerman.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) Jordan Zimmerman After hearing the Nats are trying to trade him, I would love to bring him to this team. Our rotation would be the best in the league as i been spouting about, the nat's want to sign Schezer and that will leave Zimm to be traded. it can be done.. again if the cost in players is reasonable. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) Keith Law has stated that Rodon, Anderson, Montas, and Micah will all be in his top 100. are you serious or should i say is Law serious. Micah in the top 100 and not Adams.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Kingsman: The Secret Service looks like it will be ridiculous but fun. http://m.ign.com/videos/2015/01/16/kingsma...-clip-pub-fight to me, it looks as it is going to be a really nice movie. a great time to relax and enjoy the moments with friends at a nice movie. i can't wait to see it. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Did anyone see Birdman? I saw it last night. Thoughts? i am a huge fan of michael keaton and i will see that movie either tomorrow or tues. did you like it??

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 02:37 AM) Everything you read....he was basically a "good ol boy" and pretty darned racist. Seemingly the main positive was the work he did with veterans after the war. Of course you're going to come off more heroically with Bradley Cooper and Clint Eastwood controlling the story...but it still feels a bit like a recruiting video for the military. Lone Survivor was a much better film. http://www.salon.com/2013/02/07/death_of_an_american_sniper/ Some of the concerns about the real Kyle and glorifying him. a good counter. the lone survivor was really embellish. there is no way was it better than sniper. but i will respect what your opinion is. ref to the real life .... i am sure almost everyone has something to hide. but his record of KIA still certs by the government.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 12:36 AM) Jim Callis @jimcallisMLB · Jan 16 Top 100 out in late January. Top 30s (up from 20s) in March. @cody_schrader: When do you guys plan on doing top prospect list for 2015? It'll be pretty cool to see a list consist of 30 for each team. As far as the top 100 list, I could see Rodon, Anderson, and possibly Montas. all man, i am sooo hype that someone like Callis will even reach out for future sox top list. this site sure has grown into something special. on to the subject. yeah i can wait to see the new list of soxtalk top prospect.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 12:55 AM) How much of Chris Kyle's life is covered in American Sniper? He supposedly made up a lot of the stories in his life after the war. I have read a lot of stuff on him and he just seems like a guy that had something wrong with him and couldn't live with not being a "hero". i think you nailed on the head and according to the movie the revenge factor. my godson was a navy seal and did 2 tours. he was dropped just before the invasion to get a palace that had gold coins. either way, he said, he and his team hatted the hype that other branches gave them. however Chris liked the hype of the legend. i am glad they just focus on his military career. the incident with jesse ventura and the lawsuits that is what i am reading now. either way, he did his time serving the military.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 17, 2015 -> 11:09 PM) Not a big move to put them over the top, but Beachy would be nice. He also comes with either 2 or 3 years of control. Should be ready by May /June. at 2 yrs, and or more would be great. he then look for another fa contract at 30 or 31 yrs of age. the sox still need that extra pitcher b/c of a longer season b/c of the playoff and insurance for injury. toward the all star break, go with a 6 man rotation. who care if this may look weird, but i am sure that the idea of a 5 man rotation did too. the sox doesn't have the luxury of a backup to depend on just now.
