QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 07:51 AM) Going to see American Sniper tomorrow. I am nervous, never been a War movie fan. i saw american sniper. a really nice movie. i am surprise on the acting, i should have known better. anything with clint eastwood directing is usually going to be good. i got to read up on alot of this movie and real life stories.
  2. while i think this yrs sox team is great and the work in the offseason was terrific, i am only going to concertate on the positive here. the sox starting 3 are going to be great barring any injury. the #4 Danks will be underrated. i trust his competitive nature and he will not allow anything from stopping to get better. the expectant one will be Hector. now with Rodon being in groom, i can wait to see when he will come up and hopefully not rushed. the relief core is going to have a great yr. what a collection of arms there. the lineup, what can i say that hasn't been said, it is going to be, like everything else, great. there are some weakness and well i will refrain from mentioning it, i will look in the right way. i am still laughing at, how in my opinion, the rest of the teams who wish to compete have to play catch up. sox in 15
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) he's minor league filler. He never was very good - just better than anything else we had for a few years, although the manager wouldn't see it. They Sox simply aren't getting full value out of their roster if they keep these all field no-hit types purely for defensive replacement. Because of that, Adam Dunn, e.g., always had to hit against lefties. Need a better rounded bench this year. i.e. no L Garcia. (and we kept him for Semien last year; a lot of teams wouldn't have done that). i have a feeling that this is the best the sox will invest. they already spent what they needed and now for the rest of the reclamation projects.
  4. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) I share your enthusiasm, I just think with over a dozen pitchers looking for $10mil+ per year, the market will be a little tight. and b/c of the sox have improve, many teams will be force to pay that outrageous price. this strategy, while unintended, are going to force team to overreact and pay some big time money.
  5. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) With the amount of big-money pitchers that will be available next year, it may be in Jeff's interest to sign an extension with the Sox. There are only so many teams that can afford the big contracts. And if he goes to FA, there will be at l;east 6 pitchers all looking for that big money. Who's going to pay it? You can always find one or two stupid clubs, but now you have to find 6. Its going to be a numbers game, and it may actually favor the Sox for once. not for the yrs he wants. there will teams willing to spend that money next yr. this yr, the major teams are really trying to load up, maybe more than necessary. the reason is, i think it is b/c of the sox. what the sox have done was to silently improve themselves so much, that other teams are to play catch up. look at their lineup, look at the first 3 in their rotation, the #4 and 5 pitchers, don't forget Rodon being groomed in the wings. this sox team is very Dangerous now. that is why i am sooo excited.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) Easy for a fan to say. For Danks, he's got major league experience, very good defense at all three OF positions and some pop in his bat (when he makes contact). If he enjoys playing, he has every reason to keep doing so, as someone will at least give him a AAA role with the potential for a later call-up. he still can have a good career in the minors.
  7. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) If Jeff were interested in re-signing, I think that at the earliest it would be around midseason, and there need to be a couple things satisfied for him to sign. He needs to absolutely love the organization. Not just as a fan, but the front office, everyone. He needs to be sold on JRs loyalty, and becoming a beloved White Sox figure. Also, the money is going to need to be competitive. If he's not going to hit the open market, then his contract needs to be competitive with the contract given to Lester, and the contracts that will be given to Shields and Scherzer. It will be real interesting to see what those guys sign for. I also think the Sox will need to be right in the thick of it for either party to be interested in a contract extension. If the Sox, for some reason, tank next season, they will probably deal Jeff at the trade deadline. I don't foresee that happening and I believe the Sox will in the very least be in the hunt by the trade deadline. I think the Sox will respect the fact that he wants to get to know the organization before considering an extension. That's a perfectly reasonable request. You want to know that you're not going to sign up for a situation like the Bears... I think Jeff knows the Sox are a good organization but just wants proof positive to be certain. JR's loyalty has to be shown from the player first. then he will make the up most commitment to that player which is to reciprocated that loyalty x 10.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 20, 2014 -> 11:14 PM) I've got to be honest, I 100% disagree with you here. Every day Shark goes unextended is a day closer to free agency for him and ultimately some ridiculous offer from another team that we'll be unable or unwilling to match. You waiting for him to "prove it" for whatever reason just makes it more unlikely we'll keep him long-term. i hate to cherry pick and make a comment on this discussion. the only problem i have on both side of this discussion is, what if he wanted to go the FA rt. all this discussion of contract extension and all is window dressing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 04:43 PM) I am reading a translation of the Dead Sea scrolls now, then The World Until Yesterday: What Can We Learn from Traditional Societies by Jared Diamond. I already read Collapse and Guns, Germs, and Steel by him. http://www.amazon.com/World-Until-Yesterda...asap_bc?ie=UTF8 yeah i got that in audio book, since my health issues, i can't read anymore so i use audio book. a little slower for me, but i still get to read so to speak. let me know what you think ok.
  10. QUOTE (shoeless_joe21 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) This is a total shot in the dark, but do you post on any Iowa Hawkeye message boards? Your posting style totally reminds me of someone else. He ends a lot of his posts with "peace" as well. nah, i am pretty much a chi person... chi sox blackhawks bulls bears no freaking northsiders if chi teams don't make the playoff, my season ends with them. i learned many yrs ago, my short curt sentence structure, many may take offense as i was berating or belittling them so i start use peace at the end so some whose post i was answering may not take wrongly. it is hopefully an insurance to show i meant no offense. my english is really bad in writing.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 08:16 AM) http://entertainment.time.com/2013/12/18/b...t-performances/ Brad Pitt's ten best performances...some might add Legends of the Fall and Burn After Reading, along with the supporting turn in 12 Years a Slave (which I felt was too distracting at that point in the movie, like Matt Damon in Interstellar) well some have a different definition for Pitt's acting, in legends of the fall, might be the only one, but barely. however my most entertaining movie of his is snatch. in this one, he just rely on his acting skill which has improved alot. thanks for your input.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 01:45 AM) It's interesting they didn't have a caption about Rev. Ralph Abernathy at the end of the movie. Diane Nash and Bevel are an interesting story, in and of themselves. Roth as George Wallace seemed a bit off, as did Wilkinson as LBJ...it was also hard for me to concentrate on Rev. Hosea Williams when that actor's always been in comedies, but that's a minor quibble. BTW, the actor who played Malcolm X was the spitting image of him, although his part was very brief. And the idea that Coretta Scott King might have been personally enamored with him was news to me. Maybe that part just made for a better movie and has no historical basis in fact. i am surprise as well.... i would imagine the african american community is not raising hell.
  14. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 12:53 AM) Starting centerfielder by June. i doubt it. lets start off if he makes it out of spring training. Eaton is still the man.
  15. i need a 3rd person impartial point of view of what is going on in Cle. i just read the Cle players are not listening to the coach when he calls for certain plays, or changes the game plan. why??? is he really that bad of a coach??
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 11:36 PM) This is my favorite move of the offseason. this is your favorite, better than getting Jeff S, the signing of the FA's....

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) Now You See Me could have been better, but they played it off like the only authorities that existed were Mark Ruffalo and the Interpol girl. I laughed when they pulled off all these heists in plain sight and were nationally wanted criminals but yet they could set up elaborate stage performances. Oh hey, and they were able to deposit millions of dollars in people's accounts no big deal with the way you put it, yeah it is a very simplistic movie, but most are. for me, movies are entertainment and a way to loose one self for a couple of hours. maybe it is I who is very simplistic in this area. i still hated the ending.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 11:15 PM) Brian Anderson. Offseason completed. so here is the time to start with the reclamation project. i was a fan of Anderson but i am not going to look the other way on what this is really.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) Really campy, the ending was like a child would write. thanks for your answer. i think alot of the problem was in the ending. i just wish, it would left it as an unknown answer. pretty much like the usual suspects with more finesse.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) And Chisoxfn forced SS2K5 and Daver into the Soxtalk thunderdome. Master Blaster did not win. 2 may enter, 1 will leave.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) A little known fact (because of the age of this site) but Daver was one of the original Soxtalk admins. interesting i did not know that what happen to make him leave.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) I would give that movie a 1 out of 5. no offense i was wondering why??
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) After Carroll's debut he asked Dunn for recommendations on restaurants that could accommodate 35 family members. Dunn made some calls and told Carroll he got him a reservation - along with paying the full tab. Dunn always was pure class, kinda like Thome. I'd welcome him back to the org. never heard that story, as some already said this, i think that a classy thing to do.
  24. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) Do you think there is any future in the organization for him? Obviously, he may not want to. I think he would be a great clubhouse presence to have around. The scott carroll story is one of the coolest things I've heard a player do. Dunn is the epitome of class. I think the sox owe him a spot in the organization if he wants in. Sure, he didn't live up to the contract, but he was always classy and you knew it weighed in him. I doubt his number gets placed on the outfield wall, but a coaching position I can see you know JR's MO, he pays back loyalty. but where would they put him. at what spot, has he ever shown a knack for coaching, like maybe Paulie??
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) Y2Jimmy0 is correct. No one drafts in the first round for a current MLB team need versus strength. You take the best talent available, period. The HS vs college question is a valid one, but more in terms of risk than about current major league needs. and both have very valid points. i am just saying under the old philosophy of drafting in the first round, the sox avoided the hs'ers and went out of there way to avoid Scott B clients. there were 2 pitchers who the sox drafted in the 90's that many thought was a reach. the excuse was they were projected to go thru the system fast and be in the majors quickly. Y2Jimmy is correct in the normal sense but not the way the sox have done it in the past. maybe with Hahn at the Helm, things will be different.
