QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 02:50 PM) So it appears I'm going to New Orleans for a bachelor party in March. Anyone ever been there? I think we're staying right in the French Quarter kinda of my neck of the woods. there is sooo much talk about that area, you have to go and experience it. Bourbon st is not all that great. Rush st is crazier, well at least in the late 80's early 90's. there is some nice restaurants but man it is very expensive. but at least you could say you ate a cuisine in New Orleans.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) It won't depend on Hawkins. You take the best player on the board. Regardless of anything else. for many yrs the sox picked a college player instead of a hs'er esp when the hs'er was the best on the board. so again it will be how the sox address their priority.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 02:20 AM) Away from Her, Iris and Amour are all much better "Alzheimer's movies." If it weren't for the performance of Moore, this one would easily fit on the Lifetime or Oprah Network, especially due to the presence/s of Kimberly Stewart, Alec Baldwin and Kate Bosworth. I put it in the okay/decent movie category, with a superior acting performance embedded within in, like Big Eyes (although honestly I don't quite understand the canonization of Amy Adams). It's also not a movie I would be happy paying $10-15 to see in a theatre, or a date movie, either. The Gambler 3.25/5 Unbroken 3.75/5 Predestination 3.50/5 (either this movie is totally transcendent or it's terrible and impossible to follow, I'm still not sure after one viewing but I'm leaning towards the incomprehensible argument, it almost feels like they started backwards from the ending and tried to fill in the rest of the plot...) Has anyone else seen John Wick? Awesome movie, better than Snowpiercer of the "underdog/indie" movies made with smaller production and marketing budgets. And superior to its cousins, The Equalizer and Taken 3. Another movie to consider if you do like Predestination is an even smaller budget film, Coherence, which is a lot of fun. nice butt, nice body, nice to look at and she can act.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) Now You See Me - 3 out of 5. Cool premise, decent rental, but it felt low budget. The "surprise" came out of nowhere and felt like sloppy screenwriting. Also, the ending was mediocre and vague. 100% correct. i really was disappointed with the ending. i was is this it??? could've done a lot more with it. i also thought that the screenwriters ran out of ideas on how to end it.

QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) Douglas, at first i thought you to be a troll. i am really happy you have shown me that you are not. i would like to take this time a apologize. keep up the good post.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 03:32 AM) I'll be real disappointed if we pass on Daz Cameron to draft a 2B. i don't know what the sox brass priority will be. i also think it will depends on how Hawkins does.

didn't Jeff S stated a couple weeks ago that he will explore the FA rt. does that mean there will be no home town discounts.

Phil Rogers argues for Buehrle to the Hall of Fame case building
LDF replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Armchair Hahn @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 05:12 AM) I love everything Buehrle did for the Sox, but he is not even close to one of the best pitchers of his generation. His durability is to be admired, but the body of work is merely 'ok' i am really divided on this, as a fan of Buehrle i want him in the HOF, but i agree with you. i can flip-flop on this subject. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) The last report I saw thought he was going to start in A ball and that he was a major project. Nothing about his Cuban numbers screams he is ready. He barely threw any innings and his K/9 was something out of Mark Buehrle land. i was a little distracted, but let me ask this, if Lopez need developmental time, wouldn't it be like any prospects who was drafted? does he rate and a equivalent to a first round???

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
LDF replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 04:01 AM) imho the sox just need 1 last positional player. that will be a sp with expiring contract. 1. Zimmermann - problem here i can't remember if the sox have a friendly trade relations with Washington if not 2. Cueto of Cincy. expiring contract. i just want insurance for the pitchers going into the playoff in case of injury or getting tired b/c of the inning pitched. those 2 can get QO and let them go. no long term commitment unless the sox will want to sign either Jeff or Zimm or Cueto. who will sign on the dotted line the fastest. prospects i will discuss tomorrow. peace. well getting a sp pitcher of the talent of the above would obvious make this trade virtually impossible. the cost is too high. but Hahn got Jeff S at a good price. so the opportunity may be worth looking into. however we, the fans will not know if the discussion was done or will be done. Wash needs to move Zimmerman and his salary. there were talks of last week that Wash would like to pursue Scherzer. so Sanchez - they need a 2b Hawkins - they will need a outfielder in 2016 Beck - pitcher / rp May - another outfield in 16-17 Micker young talent for there farm. now it would be Hahn to finesse this list. the same can be added to Cincy who needs help and this pkg should give them a nice boost in the talent level. remember the Marlins, they acquired a crap load of player and won the WS in the late 90's only to dismantle the team shortly. the did it again in the early 2000's and won again. get to the playoff and go far, let the players walk and continue to build the farm systems. if everything goes nice with Rodon, he can take over a spot vacated. some of the talent i mention, while it would be a steep price, it may be worth it to go to the WS. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 12:40 AM) You kind of are, you can pretty much beg the same question with every free agent on the market. The Sox didn't sign Lopez because they didn't and someone else did, it's really that simple. i asked for the sox to sign a lot of the fa's??? you are wrong. and with the sox signing him or not, isn't this still a forum to exchange opinions??? it is really that simple.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 14, 2015 -> 12:01 AM) The Yankees already tried this 12 years ago and how did that work out for them? OH YEAH JOSH BECKETT BUDDY i am not saying sign all players or to load the team up with salary. the sox under Hahn is spacing the salary out nicely this team still has a weak farm and imho a sp.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:45 PM) How can you differ if you don't know either way? I'm not gonna lose sleep over a guy that nobody really knows about, and I will trust that the Sox know which international prospects they should throw money at and you have a point, but there is also a great chance that he might turn into something special. prospects are all gambles.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:36 PM) There are a number of reasons the White Sox didn't sign Lopez. 1) A K/9 of 5.1 in Serie Nacional does not bode well for him in the majors. Maybe there's something there, maybe not. Blindly throwing around money is crazy. 2) Spending $8.25 million on him comes with a 100% overage tax on anything exceeding the White Sox spending limit. I don't know what it is exactly, but it's much, much less than $8.25 million and they would have spent around $12-15 million on a virtually unknown prospect. 3) They could sign amateur free agents between now and July 2nd, and every single one of those signings would be doubled as a result of this signing because they were already over. If they signed someone for $500K, it's a $1 million overall cost. 4) As a result of those overages, once July 2, 2015 hits, they would not be able to sign anybody for more than $300K from that date until July 2, 2017. That means they miss out on all kinds of high end prospects that fall in that time frame, and the Latin American minor league supplements would also take a hit as a result. I get that you liked the guy, but this isn't a major loss and isn't a factor of Reinsdorf and company being cheap. EDIT: Also, this: isn't really a good defense for why the Sox should have signed him. If we don't know how far away he is from being a major league caliber pitcher, then why throw $8 million at him? This isn't similar to the Dayan Viciedo or Gerardo Concepcion signing the Cubs made where they signed these guys to decently sized contracts at a young age not knowing exactly how the product looked, this has much deeper drawbacks that would hurt the Sox long-term if he flamed out. if you use this scenario, then why ever sign the 1 rounders at a steep price. they all have the possibility of flaming out. with ref to your other statements, you do have a valid point, but again, we as fans are not privy to the real scouting rpts. but if it was only to spend money, to help in the rebuild faster i am for it. JR MO was to spend enuf to justify the salary. wasted yrs of great players b/c the org didn't want to spend that little extra. lets see if they will find another reclamation player and spin it.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) Not for a guy who is years away. i do beg to differ... there is really no scouting rpt that givens any hints on how far or close he is to the majors.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:52 PM) I can think of about $15 million reasons to start with. i know where you are going, 15 mil ontop of 120 mil team salary, but the sox will have the building of the farm going full forward. JR crying poor is baseless, he can come up with the money to get the players.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) My girl has been on and off birth control for the last couple months and changed from very relaxed to up my ass. I am writing it off as just hormonal s*** but I'm annoyed but we've been fighting more than I'd like. I got yelled at for going to the bar and not telling her last week. I sent her a picture of my buddy when we were at the bar and she's like "why didn't you tell me you were there?" And it didn't end there. Birth control is just a bag of pros and cons. i am going to echo this statement...... congrats.....

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) I'm OK with that because I'd love to get Matuella those experts have access to info and rpts that we has fans don't. i am surprise on Matuella and i agree with Bickford.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 08:50 PM) Yeah, I meant to say "low". And son of a b****, Arizona. i have been sick in bed and i got up and the sox didn't sign him. i wonder why????

someone asked about giving up prospects for rentals. a good question. it needs to be look at it in several different way. for me the price was a little steep, however lets look at it, 1. he will help this team to get to the playoff, 2. the sox will get a draft pick, comp pick. 3. that comp pick can land the sox a really great player, at worst a serviceable player. 4. if the sox goes deep into the playoff, it would be b/c of the team that Hahn assembled thru pitchers and positional player. lastly with 2 first rounders, the sox will continue to build the farm.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) The dumb fluff pieces are already coming out, huh? I wonder who will write the article about Viciedo being in the best shape of his life, or that Samardzija is ready to live out his childhood dream, or that Adam LaRoche still has something left in the tank, or that Zach Duke is out to show 2014 wasn't a fluke, or that Melky is also in the best shape of his life, or that Abreu is striving to avoid the sophomore slump, or that Danks is poised to return to form, etc. there, you just did it in 4 lines.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) Not astronomical, but it's probably more than his value. Delmon Young is a very comparable player overall and he had to settle for a 1 year, $3 million deal. Really though, teams are paying $6-7 million in the free agent market for 1 WAR players. If some team out there believes he can improve defensively to the point where he's not a total liability and they feel they can get him to hit .250 or .260, he'd be worth it. At this point, those both seem like long shots. yeah but people are forgetting who DV agent is.
