  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) It's a tough call. A real tough call. We've all seen the Sox lack of success with positional prospects, the lack of attendance which supposedly limits the budget plus the Sox never having made the playoffs even 2 years in a row. I understand why you would "sigh" . One year of success seems like it's worth it with everything weve seen taking place with this team over the past 20 years. Plus there's the good chance Samardzija walks after the year . Rodon absolutely has to become what we all hope he can be for the Sox to have any sustained success. At least one other pitcher among the prospects has to rise to prominence . Zobrist would help but the Sox most likely don't have the bullets for him . At his age and for one year can Hahn reasonably justify giving up any prospect who is viewed as a key future cog ? On the bright side there's a chance the Sox can make the playiffs without him and if we're in the race at the trade deadline we'll know more about the team and see how prospects fare up here and in the minors. this is a nice write up. the main problem i have in any of these posts, is not what is being written but, its a bite that we as fans do not know what is being asked from the sox. that is first the sox went out and contacted them. this is the 1 problem i have always had with JR. "just spend enuf to get to the playoff, do not spend extra". again i am not saying lets dangle the sox top prospects.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) Yeah, barely excited. Liked seeing the Millennium Falcon in the trailer but literally haven't watched a solid, new Star Wars movie since I was oh man, i kinda like the "pitch all the lefties" this this one has some cool art work. really nice.

i saw the movie "best of me". not a bad movie. yeah i think it is a girls flick but the young actors and actress are going to make a name for themselves. this movie is a keeper.
  4. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 01:35 AM) I agree that Ozzie was more entertaining, and that the jury is still out on Robin. And if you want entertainment, I hope you are looking forward to AJP, White Sox Manager, within the next 10 years. Cause the Oz ain't getting back here; after he f'ed up the Marlins gig, I honestly see no other management group that would think "Yea, that's our guy!" Maybe McCourt era Dodgers but certainly not the current era Dodgers. yeah he is making tons of money by not doing squat. i really looked at that article and thought, "what a pathetic attempted to tell / beg for a job"
  5. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 03:38 AM) There are all kinds of reports out there that the Cubs will leave CSN after 2019. Some reports mention them potentially teaming up with FOX Sports to create their own regional network. There was even talk of them punting the WGN portion of their schedule over to the local FOX affiliate, WFLD-TV, in advance of that plan. That didn't happen, as the Cubs recently gave a big portion of the WGN schedule to Channel 7. But one way or another, it would appear as of today they will no longer be broadcasting on CSN after 2019. My assumption then, and I could be wrong, but no games = no 20% ownership, meaning if they walk away from CSN they'd probably sell their 20% back. i am sure there would be some provision of how that will be done and esp the cost.
  6. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 03:29 AM) True, but I still wonder what the long term thinking of the ball club might be on the matter. Going back to the Cubs for a moment, they've been pretty clear of their intentions post-2019. They've already kicked WGN to the curb, more or less, and there have been many reports about their goal of creating their own regional sports network, a la the Yankees, Dodgers, etc., once the CSN contract is up. A lot will change between now and five years from now that will impact what the Cubs are trying to achieve, but at least there's some sense of the direction in which they're going. And so that's my only question, just wondering what the Sox' long term TV intentions might be or could be, given what we know today. the inner thinking of anyone for something in excess of 5 yrs will be hard. esp with the current ownership of both teams. the time to make that move would have been last yr or before they signed the contract with csn and kick wgn to the curb. but it would be nice reading for me and others when the posters who knows how this investment ideas will play out.
  7. QUOTE (lvjeremylv @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 02:12 AM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrombosis thanks i was wondering if anyone knew if he would continue to play with this problem.
  8. Hector Olivera might be a nice addition at 2b. age 29. there is still a problem with him. he has thrombosis, i do not know what this is, but it affect his healty concerns. i guess, with all the medical knowledge, can that be somewhat improve or something. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/12/...hector-olivera/

    2015 TV Thread

i was just looking up on when the airing of Season 4 of Sherlock BBC. the xmas special is still to come, when i do not know. it is kinda of hard to find a exact time and date. i also found out season 4 will not start till next xmas 2016. with a tragedy and shocker.
  10. i was looking at the remainder of the free agents, there are a few names that can still help.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) Add me one "Marcus Semien-like" bat for the bench/IF and I think this goes from a weak bench to a strong bench. yeah that trade did hurt alot, but i can understand why it needed to be done, i will be extremely satisfied if that help the sox get to the playoff and further. i just wish, we as fans can get an idea from the sox brass, what is next. maybe we will find that out in soxfest.
  12. Atl and the Yanks made a trade. that kinda of trade may have interested me. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:07 AM) ok now back to something more important. how can Hahn and company continue to improve this team. i will reissue this same question with the new year being in. what can we look for from Hahn. what kind of bench type, player do the sox should be looking for? remember the soxfest is around the corner and spring training is after that....
  14. on an wish list kinda of post, who in your opinion would be a good fix for the coach for the Bears. barring the GM search that is.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) Are we still talking about Ozzie?> nice

  17. i remember when a baseball player jam his finger and had to be carried off the field. can you imagine what he would have done with this injury. this player came back out to play after they did was they did to the finger. http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on-hockey...e-finger-injury

    Holiday Meals

well we are about to start on our day long of eating, family time and more eating. this is the first time since my mother passed away, everybody wanted to make this. our family traditions. our family way of cooking Tamales. 30 dozens. . for about 8-10 people. yessss.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) I forgot that coach/GM searches are kind of boring because there's really not that many rumors. according to this rumor page, the Bears asked permission to talk to a number of people in a search for their new GM. http://www.profootballrumors.com/
  20. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) I can't see the Sox giving up at top 5 prospect for a 34 year old player. It goes against what Hahn has been saying. If they didn't have to give up Anderson, Hawkins, Montas, etc. to acquire a top SP like Samardzija, they are not going to give one to acquire Zorbrist, and why should they? well getting Samardzija was a great piece of negotiation there. even tho i really did like the prospects the sox gave up. the main core of prospect needs to be define more. but i will not give up Hawkins for Zob. if it was a 1 for 1 trade and at the most the sox will loose Hawkins, just maybe.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 04:37 AM) Congrats brother. Welcome to the club. congrats......

    All things Christmas

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) I still can't believe the lousy Christmas I had and how selfish the people I was with in Chicago happened to be. Two of the three days I was home I had to hear and try to calm down my grown sister who was screaming at the top of her lungs. And I still can't believe I heard one of my close relatives scream "Merry f***ing Christmas" at my mom as they settled their issues. I thought only these dysfunctional families appeared on Springer and only appeared on there to earn a buck. My family is suburbia all the way (after they moved from Mt. Greenwood many moonsa ago), with my close relatives all making big bucks and my mom sitting on a fortune (knock on wood for her, you could always lose your fortune). I mean, WTF. I hadn't been in Chicago in a year and I'm still shaking my head over the behavior I witnessed. I'll get over it, but geezus. Happy f***ing New Year (I had to say it before my relative did, I guess). Glad I'm in my safe haven in Kansas where I worked and went to church twice today (once during day for Holy Day) and midnight celebration. people sometimes can't handle the stress of the holidays. hard to imagine that xmas is stressful for some. me i am still hurting of those i love. it is not xmas for me. but i stay by myself when the family is here and watch movies on the computer or talk to yous guys. i little escape. in how i grew up with my family, we always respected our mother. maybe it is a indian thing. either way, i really do mean this, i still hope everyone xmas was the best that could be had.
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) Pretty funny considering Bryan Bickell is on the team currently. (And Eric Daze years ago) i like it.
  24. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) He's the biggest waste of size I can remember the Hawks ever having. i will respectfully disagree here and with R. Raines. he does what is his game. a solid all around d-man a top 2 in the beginning may now toward the end of his career a top 4.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 1, 2015 -> 02:43 AM) The pressure definitely is on Robin/Coop this year. With the improved roster (no excuses, these new bullpen pieces should be so much better than last year) I'm sure Soxtalk will be aflame against Robin if the Sox fall out of contention early. This team has bonafide stars in Sale, Abreu, Melky and our new closer. The lineup is good enough to contend (on paper), the starting pitching is definitely good enough to contend (on paper), the bullpen is good enough to contend (on paper). The only huge weakness remains defense. If the Sox stink after all these moves, I would think Hahn would be very pissed at Robin (assuming he thinks managers mean anything). i won't nit pick on the stars you mention, only to say the sox, i believe more. but it is all true in what you wrote.
