  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) Well to each their own on the former, but I think this is greater than just trusting your player development. This was an opportunity to add some very good players while giving up merely draft picks and money for them. You say look at the Cardinals, but the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles have been incredibly successful too and they have incredibly varied and diversified rosters. The San Francisco Giants have brought in a ton glue guys from outside the organization while they've developed their core pieces. There's more than one way to build organizationally. The idea that the Sox keep developing their prospects to fill these holes at a later time period (because they could not do so at this juncture) has not been thrown out the window, but they also wanted to be competitive this year. I feel they've put themselves in a position to do so, many here do as well, they haven't crippled themselves financially at this point with overly cumbersome long-term contracts, and the best prospect they gave up during this entire process was Marcus Semien. This wasn't just going out and blindly spending money and trading away all the prospects. They give up a 2nd and 3rd round pick (and the respective slot values), but that doesn't mean they've abandoned the idea of building from within. Had they gone out and sold the farm for this year, I'd be upset and I wouldn't be the only one. But they haven't and the long-term term prospects of the minor league system itself are still intact. These were good moves the Sox made. Wite, i hope you don't take this wrong. this is another well thought out post. you have been on a roll for the last several days with great post.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) The house will be clean one way or another, the Bears are just looking to see if another team will pick up part of the contract of the remaining assistants good point. thanks
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:28 AM) you dont fire the assistants because if they get hired somewhere else, at least part of their contract under the bears is paid by the other team. if they just fire them outright today, the bears are on the hook for all of it. simple, standard business decision. sometime the owners will have to eat the whole contract if they want to clean house. they are eating the contract of those head coach and others, it is the same thing. cleaning house is the right way or in this situation, the only thing to do. the problem is Jay Cutler, but they just paid a crap load of money to him in this past contract.
  4. btw to all who posted on this subject. it was a very enlightening discussion. no tempers, no cussing, and i hope no hurt feeling. a great debate. i enjoyed it.
  5. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) I been around a long time, and I can say the Ozzie years were the most entertaining since I was a little kid. Regardless of his perception with most folks here, he did keep the Sox on the front page and on the AM radio stations. Name me one Sox manager in the last 50yrs who anybody cared about listening to? I know what you are going to say, all you care about is winning, but there's more to it than that, it also has to be provacative. thanks, douglas IF YOU WANT ENTERTAINMENT, THEN WATCH WWE.
  6. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 11:30 AM) What do you call this, and this guy is an administrator? don't leave much space for a dope like me. Thanks, douglas give me a break. these mods / admin are the best and impartial group of poster i have ever been around. their tolerance for stupidity such as you are posting is far greater than i would have allowed. you are a troll. a once a night, skulking person who post dribble and then disappear. prob reading what kind of chaos you can create. ~~~ edit -- i posted some improper usage of words. so i am deleting this sentence. after thinking of what i wrote, i was wrong in this sentence. peace.
  7. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:30 AM) Dude, horible logic. That's like saying there's no difference between a Kentucky Durby Winner and the gatesmen... Or no difference between the porn star and a condom, for lack of a better analogy. ok i will take take and appreciate the honest correction. all i am saying, is, honor him yes, give him his just dues. however his number, imo should never have been retired. however it's too late to do anything about it now.
  8. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 03:34 AM) There were a LOT of proposals back in the 80's. Mostly in a west loop that is now developed. There is NO land downtown or nearby cheap enough for a new facility. you are missing the point. as you said, there were talks. however, with the deal JR got, and the lease, the sox is going no where. this topic is like a dog who chases his tail. it fun to see, but it is going no where and not until the lease is over. done. peace
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 03:20 AM) No. It should be shelved forever. The man managed the White Sox to a WS title for gawd sakes. Sometimes I think people think that's an easy accomplishment on the South Side. It's almost impossible, folks, and he did it! Greg, i never have had a problem with you but think about this and >>>> then by that way of thinking, every member of the team should be retired. for pete sake, they were on the team that won the world series. wait, the grounds keeper, they should have a statue, for pete sake they were the grounds keeper of the team that won a WS. about the vendors, the parking agents. etc..... see, where does this stop.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 05:32 AM) Because nobody is talking about him and he can't stand it. "Someone look at me! Someone notice me! " very funny and i think it is true.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 04:27 AM) He's mended a lot of the bridges he burned when he left but I don't see this happening with the white sox right now. Ozzie isn't Hahns favorite person. i see that i read that, i don't believe it. i think is a spin doctoring being done to show class by the sox.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 03:06 AM) Weird that you would bold that part and then make that statement when the part after the bolded is literally the exact opposite of what you interpret me to be saying. it is b/c of what is after that i am trying to address. i am sorry if i missed my point.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:39 AM) if you want to know why a "there goes the neighborhood" message directed at non-whites would be perceived differently than the same message directed at whites, understanding the actual legacy of that message is pretty important. again, stereotyping a phrase that had a negative aversion or bias against a certain group of people for the sake of hatred, that has happened in the past, doesn't mean it is still like that today. today more effort should come from those who knows better. start by being positive in social conversation, and not reinforcing negative ideas.
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:36 AM) it's not a positive for everybody, and it's not just section 8 people that get displaced. It often makes things worse for those that are displaced. edit: and gentrification often is done in concert with public redevelopment efforts/projects/funding/goals. again I'm not saying that gentrification is absolutely evil, shouldn't happen etc. just that there are real, legitimate concerns about the effects on the existing population in those areas that should probably be addressed. so improving neighborhoods and the general improvement in itself is bad?? so progress should not continue?? even tho you didn't say it, it is implied by not doing anything.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:49 PM) Unconquered? Or Unbroken? CRAP ..... i did it again. my bad, unbroken. i just tried to find on wilki and imdb about him and the japanese guard. very good side reading. that guard in real life was 1 sick fwck. thanks for the catch.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:00 AM) Yet the Cubs draw and the Sox do not.if everything remains status quo when it is time for a new building, there is no way the Sox stay where they are at. bravo another good point. but by that time, there will be new ownership.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:42 PM) Sox stadium to me isn't that different to me from Citi parks location. It's not the iconic "mixed within the city" look of San Fran, Wrigley, Pittsburgh, Boston, Bronx, Coors, etc...but it's the next best thing. The stadiums that work in suburban locations are almost all in cities with low density and driving is expected. It's basically "good enough" and anything you swap it out with would be about as convenient, otherwise it's improbable from a cost standpoint without significant city buy-in...and why would Chicago? that is a great point. right now, discussing this so called move is nothing but a good discussion. the sox have a great deal they are not going to find another deal like that.
  18. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) And what does this have to do with my extensive deconstruction of your earlier comment about wrigley traffic? how at 1 time there was talk of the sox moving away from there present location. which i still think is a great area, not idea but better than shields.
  19. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) All he has to do is give up 2 million dollars from the marlins. oh man that must be 1 huge burn to those marlin owners.
  20. ok now back to something more important. how can Hahn and company continue to improve this team. btw thanks wite.
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) Thomas and Durham were a huge part of those teams. I just feel like society is too sensitive to accept a slogan like this in modern times. i just don't know. society has grown alot.
  22. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) seriously this organization so badly run its been like that it seems like forever.

  24. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 10:48 PM) No, and he's not saying that. The problem is normal market forces don't always apply to housing. Normally when demand increases, supply will increase. But in housing, there are often roadblocks that prevent it. excuse me, i make a mistake in the other post. but in a way he is. the word Gentrification also mean redevelopment in a way. people who want to invest to rebuild a neighborhood does so. for profit and the neighborhood gets a new look to help it become a better neighborhood.
  25. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 10:48 PM) No, and he's not saying that. The problem is normal market forces don't always apply to housing. Normally when demand increases, supply will increase. But in housing, there are often roadblocks that prevent it. good point, people want the niceties of everything without have to help it along.
