  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 01:57 AM) No, you don't do it. you don't trade our only decent OF prospect. Play the young players - don't squander them on 34 year olds on 1 year contracts The world doesn't end after the 2015 season. The idea is to contend for years...not make a bunch of short term moves on a team that is and will be less than 50% to make the playoffs. if i had to use a prospect of either anderson, montas or hawkins, i would use hawkins to be the center piece of a package to trade. understanding that the player i am acquiring in the trade will strengthen the team greatly. there are variables that needs to be look at.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 08:39 PM) You may have caught this, but he was making a joke about your misspelling of wear/were. oh crap. i had to go back and look it up to see what you were or is it wear talking about. my fault for trying to get my fat fingers to type. thanks for the update.
  3. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) I doubt any GM is loony enough to give a top 50 prospect for 1 year of a to be 34 year old and his .750 OPS. I believe 1 top 50 prospect has been traded this trade season...teams simply don't do that much anymore, and certainly not for aging veterans, so beloved in these parts. The Blue Jays made a terrible trade for Dickey. They made a terrible trade with the Marlins. That's what the Sox should emulate? that is assuming the GM's are thinking like us. i just don't know esp when i saw some of the salaries that were given out this past week.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) Stephen Drew can be both 1) much better than Leury Garcia and 2) not good lol
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 07:19 PM) Based on this information, you'd also justifiably say that Adam Dunn could barely hit the ball to 2B too, I mean... Adam Dunn 2011 - .159/.292/.277, 496 PAs Stephen Drew 2014 - .162/.237/.299, 300 PAs Stephen Drew is coming off a terrible season but a comparison to Leury Garcia is not a valid comparison. i will respect posters opinions, but i still can't see how Drew is suppose to be good.
  6. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 07:17 PM) Zobrist would make a lot of sense for any team that is not phoning in 2015. He plays everywhere, plays it well, and is a very solid bat. Fans of about 27 teams are saying right now "Zobrist would be a perfect fit for us". and that is when the cost will go up. he make too much sense. man the way the NL talent is spread, there are at least 3 -4 teams who could walk away with it.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) Is anyone else eagerly waiting for the new ownership group? Reinsdorf is going to be 79 in February and you have to think change is coming. man JR is on the right side of 79.... it all cool
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:28 PM) Also very true. 2029 is a LONG way away. btw, that is a great song from phil collins.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:03 PM) For the record, I would do the latter portion, in any form and in a very tepid manner, for Zobrist, which makes me think they'd ask for more. I also think Viciedo would make his way over but mostly as filler for the Rays. you do have the scope right, if the sox can't get the rays to agree with a pckg with DV, then a separate trade may happen there. the sox major prospects should be a hands off idea. but here is the question that doesn't need to be answer today. but who should be given the hands off tag.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) I saw the Gambler on Friday. I was actually pleasantly surprised with it. If you can let a few ridiculous things slide then it was pretty good. If you start thinking too much during the movie then you start to realize the plot is kind of stupid. I was also stuff in the front row for this movie since it was a sellout. At least they were recliners in this theater instead of regular seats. you got a point. when does movies need to be fully thought out. why couldn't movies be like..... for entertainment. i just wasn't sure about gambler. i think i am going to see it tomorrow.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 01:37 AM) Switched our puppy over to a free-feeder today. I wasn't awake yet when my dad brought it out, but she ate herself in to a food coma, and hasn't eaten yet since. lol. She is visibly fat and bloated it's so adorable. But she'll even out in a few days and get used to it. lol sorry but i was thinking of that like, sick puppy. sorry.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 02:51 PM) It's kind of like the minor leagues in a way. If a player is sent down from an NBA franchise, their current contract is still in place. It's just that the D-League is way less important than the MiLB, so most of their rosters are filled with free agents and maybe one or two draft picks at best. thanks, but does that mean the team at the regular mlb level plays with 1 less
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:53 PM) At the very least he will hit lefties better than Gillaspie, and he would be above average defensively at 3B/2B and passable at SS. all true.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) Yeah, there's no problem reaching out, but there seem to be teams with better depth who are in better positioning to make a trade like that. To cover my ass a little bit, I'd say there's a 1% chance the Sox get him, but I don't think it's likely. yeah you are right, but i still like 1 more other player i will talk later. dang it.... spring training ..... i can't wait. Sox in '15
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:49 PM) I think a decision on retiring #13 is one that needs some more time for some context. If we get 10+ years down the road and the Sox haven't won another WS, or even reached one, I think that makes Ozzie more significant in a historical context. Personally, I think the guy is a total asshole, but he took a team that was nowhere near the most talented in the league and won 99 games and then 11-1 in the postseason. what you said is valid and i will not dispute it. however retiring his number was a little too quick. as i said before, give hiim what he deserves esp helping in managing the team to a world series victory. he does deserved that, but retiring his number. coaches who were total butt heads, ummm Buddy ryan and Mike D.
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 05:02 PM) Beckham would actually be a good person to be a platoon with Gillaspie at 3B and backup for 2B. It would be very unusual for a team to bring back a former starter as a platoon/bench player though. but he will have no bat, no offense.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) This thread is making a ton of assumptions based on the old ownership group being around for the next stadium deal. I don't see there being much of a chance at all at that being reality. When the new group comes in, who knows what their priorities will be. and so will the economic times.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:26 PM) He's an incredibly versatile player who is a very good hitter and is incredibly cheap. It'll be interesting to see what it takes to get him, but I think there are a few teams, notably the Cubs, who could cash in a couple prospects to acquire him. Given the lack of depth in the White Sox system, the high price it would take, his age, and his contract situation (or lack thereof beyond this season), he really doesn't. The nice thing about the Samardzija trade is that the Sox traded for him using a bunch of marginal players, guys who weren't high on talent but had put up results. They could ultimately be good to great players, but they weren't in the Sox long-term plans. Zobrist will require either high upside talent or similar players to the Samardzija trade, and the Sox are pretty much all out of the latter at this point, so they will need to give up Montas, Danish, or Anderson, and that's not something that's terribly reasonable at this point. Suggesting something crazy here, but if the Cubs gave up Javier Baez and Pierce Johnson right now, how on earth could the Sox logically top that? They could give up Anderson and Montas for sure, but that's not logical (and I'm not sure it would top the Cubs offer anyway). The Sox are going for it, but they are doing so with an eye towards the future. Trading for Ben Zobrist at this point is not making a move with an eye towards the future, it's making a move with an eye towards now. That is not in their agenda. you are a good point in at what cost would it take. but since no one knows now, it would be nice to inquire. on mlb rumors there was an article of the sox inquiring about Drew for 2nd base. at least we were thinking of this problem before it was mention.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) Now that it has become so easy to look up players' platoon splits, everybody has gone off the deep end on wanting platoons. A major league roster carries 25 players, and just about every team carries 12 pitchers. After 9 starting position players you have four bench spots left. Your backup catcher rarely is able to play other positions, so that leaves three bench spots to cover 7 other spots on the field. You don't have the luxury to really use more than one of these as a platoon. The only guy on the Sox that is really a platoon candidate is Gillaspie. The other guys are going to have splits and you're going to have to live with them. If their overall numbers are good, then that's fine. Especially don't worry about lefties who have bad splits vs LHP. Remember, they are never going to have to face two of the three best lefty starters in the AL. Who knows, that may have been a factor in getting LaRoche. "Let's see, I go to the White Sox and never, ever have to bat against Chris Sale? Sign me up!!" you are right, and since i am really horrible on these advance stats. let me say, the sox need a viable backup in the outfield.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:34 PM) Huh? You can't have 2 platoons in the OF for guys who hit from different sides of the plate. ok you are right .... again. i just think the sox need another player as they need another pitcher. i don't see those players not getting hurt. don't get me wrong, i would love to be wrong and i will admit it when i am. but there are some concerns i have.
  21. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) I think you have to be very selective about what or who's numbers you retire. I think the Bulls have done this very well. They haven't retired Tom Boerwinkle's number. Or Norm Van Lier's. Just to name a couple. Those were guys who were long time Bulls and/or very special players and well-loved by the fans. I think Ozzie perhaps could get recognition like the Bulls did for Phil Jackson. His name and banner is up there with Jordan, Pippen, Sloan and Love just reading "Jackson - Coach". I like the idea too of having a White Sox Hall of Fame and not even having numbers retired. Wouldn't it then be a special honor to have the number of a White Sox Hall of Famer? When did the practice of sports teams retiring numbers begin anyway? It's a nice recognition of course. But maybe it needs to stop. Former players, coaches and managers can be honored with statues and plaques.......good enough. a great post.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) Sox aren't going to give 5-8 mil to a platoon guy, and I'm not sure who he platoons with, since the 3 OF are all pretty much full-time players. I think at this point, the only position left to fill is a RH infielder. right now, i am more concern in having a backup plan / platoon for Avi and Eaton.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 05:29 AM) He's, right now, a top 10 player in the NBA. Derrick Rose is just "a guy" compared to Jimmy. Yet all anyone talks about (including my sig) is Rose. while you do have a good point, his growth has been unbelievable, this will be his 2 nd season showing this. now if he can sustain it for the whole season. btw, didn't the bulls offered him a contract, i think the bulls will do the right thing and sign him.
  24. just read on MLB rumors, Balt may sign Rasmus to a 5-8 mil 1 yr contract. i was wondering, could the sox use him as a platoon? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  25. need some help in understanding some rule in the nba. i thought when a player gets assigned / cut and plays in the "D" league, he becomes a FA. so when Noah Vonleh, 9 pick last yr 1rd, went to the D league, is he a FA? totally unrelated, the signing of the vet for vet extension contracts, should the Bull continue to extend Rose contract further? i know the Bulls should offer Joakim Noah.
