QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) In the videos I watche , Ashe was consistently throwing 93/94 with tailing on his fastball. The slider and curve need work but that's to be expected from a 17 year old. Like you, I will be keeping an eye on him to see how he performs during the spring HS season. the players I like so far are in order: 1. Brendan Rodgers - hs - ss 2. Ian Happ - college - ss/of. he did great in cape league this summer. 3. D.J. Stewart - college - of. 4. tie - Walker Buehler - college - pitcher, Nathan Kirby - college - pitcher and then there are several other pitcher of note with Russell, Lemoine and Ferrell http://www.pointstreak.com/baseball/stats....;seasonid=26713

Question. wasn't there a change in the draft where teams can trade their draft picks, with first round being protected? am I thinking of the int'l draft or comp rounds? -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 02:37 AM) If I'm Rick Hahn and dealing with the Yankees, I would want back Gary Sanchez and two of the international prospects that they just signed, preferably Juan de Leon and Antiono Arias. the yanks has 4 catchers and not including the 1 that they traded at the deadline. int'l prospects or int'l pool money. however didn't the yanks just destroyed their int'l free agent quota ?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 10:15 PM) Chris Beck for Jay Bruce?? Walt Jocketty might actually did from laughter from that offer. Having said that, I would love to target Bruce and would easily give up several prospects in the 6 to 15 range to get him. too many questions for the value of the salary.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 10:52 PM) Or Matt Kemp, even after what he did the final two months of the season. The Dodgers still need to find playing time for Pederson, Kemp and Puig don't get along so well, and they'd save a lot of money trading Kemp compared to Ethier/Crawford. That said, they're also not stupid. They'll trade Ethier to any team who wants to take on that contract. lets not forget several other young prospects knocking on the door in the outfield. they have a log jam in the outfield or will use those prospects for trade bait.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 06:37 PM) He'll get another extension before he's fired well robin had 2 very difficult yrs of OJT and next yr may the yr he kind of put it together. the problem with this quagmire is, the sox is not going to get rid of him, we as fans has to hope for the best the only recurring excuse is / was the sox is rebuilding. now Hahn is throwing Robin a curve here stating the sox will be competitive next yr.
-
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) Buddy Bell quote on Montas from the above: while that is very good news for the sox, I am wondering if that will stop the brass for investing in the free agents pool or trades. I really would hate to see the sox have a recurrence of what happen this yr like erik Johnson and Davidson.

so Tomas the fa Cuban will not count against the int'l allotment pool?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) I blame the Illuminati and Obama. one of the best one liners I have seen here.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) I think it's safe to assume they were close but likely not over the threshold where they lose the ability to offer as much as possible. my question is does signing int'l free agents, is that part of the allotment or is it a typical free agent signing?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 12:47 AM) ESPN I got a HUGE b**** about ESPN this morning. I was watching the top 10 plays and the play that the 3b of the Pirates came in 8. there is no freaking way that should came in 8th. It should have been the top 2 with the hole in 1 golf shot being #1.

Hey Greg, I like the idea of this but the only problem I have is a comparison of judging / evaluation. I mean what are the parameters of the judging. I can see a lot of personal judgment grades. if I didn't explain myself, sorry. but this thread is a good idea.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 10:40 PM) Well, the Sox finish with the 8th pick for 2015 which, according to this mock, would have the Sox drafting Ashe Russell. Why not? In one video I watched of him he was wearing a Sox cap. I know its entirely way to early but now that the draft position is known, I just can't help myself. same here, if you are like me, I like to identify the prospect in a certain area and I will like to follow them until draft day. re Ashe Russell, interesting make up, someone to keep an eye on.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) I do want to say, in the last week, Josh Phegley's swing has gotten really short and quick. If he can keep that going, he can hit at the major league level. I been wondering about what change in him. taking a look at this stats in the last 2 yrs. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 28, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) I stunk, but here are the answers (unless something changes in the next two innings): thanks for your hard work on this. edit, I wonder if something like this can be done for the offseason. more like a want list and / or shopping list of needs. either way, many thanks

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 04:50 AM) And also fond of blaming his teammates when he failed. His teammates hated him. I don't think anyone will compare to Royce clayton. at spring training he was always eating by himself at a table. no one wanted to eat with him. a couple of bench clearing brawls, he stayed in the dugout. he didn't come out for the Nat'l anthem for the 9/11 incident, I believe. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 27, 2014 -> 04:28 AM) Any time busts come up its Navarro and rightfully so. People should have a look back at just how bad he was. Navarro to the Sox is like Edwin Jackson to the cubs. Very similar in how bad they were. Todd Ritchie and why KW traded for him, giving up on kip wells.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) I don't deny what you say but what the hell happened to him? I watched video of him from an April 15th start against Boston in which he struck 9 bosox hitters and his fastball was sitting 90-92 but straight as could be. So he lost velocity as well as control? I don't know, I always thought he had a tired arm. he put a lot of innings in with pitching in the minors and then in the winter league.

does anyone have anymore info on the reds and why they were scouting the sox team a few weeks back?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 03:03 AM) I heard Che Guevara was another one to watch too. oh you guys are really hilarious, real comedian, now I really free stupid. I fell for these names and starting looking them up. good job.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 01:19 AM) They weren't even high on the college pitchers that are expected to go early. depending on which mock draft, some has aiken either going with 2 other college arms going top 3.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 05:44 PM) It is still going to be on a case by case thing. Martin may be better 3 years from now, or he may be collecting a check. When the Sox signed Carlton Fisk for the 1981 season, he was 33 years old. I remember Roland Hemond saying he told JR he thought Fisk had 2 productive years left, but needed to go to 3 to sign him. What did he have 13 seasons in a White Sox uniform, and probably 10 pretty productive ones. Obviously there is no way anyone could expect something similar to happen again, but weird stuff does happen. If Martin winds up a White Sox, I won't be kicking and screaming, but I'm very leary of him putting up numbers and being a presence where it would be a consensus thought with hindsight, that he was a good signing, but I will acknowledge it is possible. And maybe the discrepancy at the age 33 is the time they start platooning more. Who knows? One thing that is certain is if you knew exactly how someone would age, you would be winning a lot of titles. and that is the wildcard, I am in agreement. using the age line is no way to gage a player. so signing players is a gamble. whether one is using advance stats nor not, it is the luck of the draw. my point is the sox have holes, can they be address and catching will be one, or is flowers performance and his hitting those hrs help his cause. can the sox deal with a weak question mark at catcher and field a good overall team. hope the sox can find a gem in a trade

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 04:42 PM) This is correct. Quintana is a stud and he will be the White Sox #3 starter a year from now. The White Sox will have 2 aces at the top in Sale and Rodon. Slide Quintana in behind and it's one of the best rotations in baseball. If Q were to be traded, he would bring back quite the return. Using Pittsburgh as a trade partner it'd be Alen Hanson and Josh Bell as the starting point. With that contract, Q is a very valuable piece. I would like you to know that I agree with you. I would also like to add, the sox may have a solid to a very solid 3 sp's. add to that, the sox acquiring what is necessary to fix the holes the lineup has. they may shake a few teams in the playoff. look at the team who said they may go with a 3 man rotation. I am not in favor of trading Q. I am a huge fan of trading to rebuild, but dang the sox are reallllllly close with the addition of a few smart moves. maybe some may thinking I am in my dream pipe state. I wish, but look at the team honestly.
