how man, you guys who live in chi are soooo spoiled and rightfully so. I live in sw LA and the only pizza is Little Caesar, Domino or Pizza Hut. now some other places around town has shimp pizza, crawfish pizza and gator. so when I say I miss my different types of food, I think of chi. now my sister made some homemade pizza.... and it was great. it tastes a little of connies or freddy in cicero. only problem is we have yet to perfect the pizza sauce. I really pig out today. damn I miss my home run inn pizza.

an interesting thought, after reading the mlb trade rumors site, KC is looking for pitchers as well as players. if the yanks deal goes sour, why not KC and salary (for spite) for several prospect.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:46 PM) If we flat out dump the guy right now we're probably looking at $32 or $33M plus of salary relief right off the bat and doing so at the expense of our 3rd best pitcher. Also from things the Sox hvae saidd plus their actions in trading Hector Santiago, we're probably not having 4 lefties in our rotation anytime soon & I'm not sure (especially with BorASS as his agent) that the Sox will want to put Rodon in the pen for a full season plus like Sale. In short, there's no guarantee you will be able to get out of Danks' contract at a later date, and not being able to do so could cause real porblems during a point we want to contend, so getting this done now while the chance is there probably makes a lot of sense. It's the safe bet, if the option does exist.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:40 PM) Meaning this is going to be a pure salary dump if/when it goes down. Yanks know Sox have little leverage here & are applying the pressure. I don't think we're going to be eating much if any $$$ no matter what, but will we cave & flat out dump him if we have to in order for the deal to go through? IMO we will. There's too much smoke here, to the point where I think if we don't trade Danks to the Yanks we won't make a trade at all. Sox porbably know NY has little to give in the way of assets & are hopeful they will cave & give something back, but the Sox need to watch it, because the Yanks have players like McHugh and so on as fallback options in theory, there are always those sorts of options out there, whereas who else but the Yankees would be willing to take on Danks' deal right now? Also this move is as much about 2016 than anything else. No matter what our FO is thinking Rodon is a full season LHSP in 2016 & he's probably at least a partial SP next year too. Dumping Danks gives us flexibility now and saves us a potential headache later. Also Noesi could turn out too and be yet another in a long list of names picked up cheap/off the scrap heap by the Sox and turned into something valuable. There's no reason to assume we couldn't find someone who would replace what would be Danks' projected 2015-16 production during or after this season. I think if you can dump Danks to the Yanks and pick up an arm like Maurer out of Seattle or elsewhere - someone with real upside - the Sox could come out of this thing smelling like roses. if dumping is the choice, I would rather eat his contract and keep him. then again maybe the yanks are using the tweet to have the sox include salary relief. wow, times have change, yanks are getting cost conscience.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:16 PM) Not only that, but this has "good Samaritan" Jerry Reinsdorf written all over it.....you know JR probably feels horrible for the kid and will do anything he can do to accommodate him. BINGO ..... that is JR and how people completely misjudge him.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) No Carlos Sanchez last night or tonight? Hmmmmm. Or it means nothing. edit: checked his twitter. He may have a baby about to be born. great news for him and family.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:39 PM) Let's say it is August, Danks is still here, Hahn puts him on waivers, Yanks claim him. Anyone believe we wouldn't release Danks' contract to the Yankees in that scenario? I thinking that if push comers to shove, if the Yanks will take on the rest of the deal, given that we know Danks' velocity is not coming back, and given the presence of Rodon in the minors, I think the Sox will dump him for a Rios type package. Maybe the hangup is that the Yanks are offering Cervelli and the Sox want Murphy. first I think the sox will keep Danks if as you said push come to shove. second and this is my opinion, trading with the sox is trading with KW and his, let say not getting the right value of the trade. now all the GM's have to deal with Hahn who may be asking for value. I don't know, I am just wondering.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Reports on twitter though that Lackey will definitely be moved because he asked to be traded. Only making $500,000 next year. but there is something strange about his contract that has people talking about. what I do not not. did he not give a break to sign or something. to remain with the team?
-
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:20 PM) No you are not. You are asking for the value of the player. Any surplus value in the contract drives up the expected value of the player. There are no market rate assets available at the trade deadline, that is why the Sox have leverage now to deal Danks. You do give up value to get a guy that is paid what he is worth, that is the point of making a trade, to plug a piece of value into your team to try and win baseball games. There is also value in having cost certainty and a certain number of holes filled going into free agency. Surplus value is a nice thing to have in a trade, but that is not what teams are trading for, they are trading for baseball players to help them make the playoffs. yes there is and it is a common factor you are not mentioning. length of the contract.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) U-God @SBN_UGod · 2m The Yankees are potentially interested in Viciedo AND Danks? What's your game, Cashman? for the value of both contracts, it is cheaper to trade with the sox. even if the sox are asking decent prospects in rtn. throw in some salary help it makes the deal better. danks is coming back to pitching good. dv is what 25 yr old and still has power potential. how many prospect are still in the minors at 25 and is still considered a good prospect?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 10:56 PM) How do we really know it was a back issue and not arm soreness the whole time? exactly either way now is another position to fill.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) Truth. The goal is to assemble the best rotation possible, period. It doesn't matter where guys slot in. But, the fact that we already have top pitching talent means that we would be better off allocating resources somewhere else - a left fielder, left-handed power to replace Dunn, catcher, bullpen, etc. Combine that with the knowledge that teams who sign the hot stove's hottest pitcher literally almost always regret it eventually, and I say ignore Scherzer. no offense, but I thought that would be understood.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Because in 5 or 6 years, while the Sox are at the beginning - year 3 or 4 - of their 18 year division title run, I'd rather the Sox have money to spend on something else rather than $25 mill on a broken down, back of the rotation Max Scherzer. but use team that don't change and gets too old or something. the team will need to make subtle changes in the players to keep it contending. pretty much like the chi hawks are doing with their salary cap. players at different layers and when their salary comes up, they will either renew or let them walk. they have prospect waiting in the wings to be replacement.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) I am honestly not really stating an opinion here. The statements lie in the numbers. Jose Quintana is really, really good. I was very skeptical after the first year and began believing after last year. This year has cinched it. He's incredible. I am not trying to argue your points, I am just accepting what you are stating.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Incredibly good. If you slot a RHP after Sale and before Q it means he could essentially be an Ace. And right there you have a contender. thank you for a better example. now here is a question. playoff comes, who are you most important pitchers. 1,2,3 yeah an agreement can be made for #4. look at randy Johnson many yrs ago in the playoff. sea use him as a starting pitcher, rp and on 3 days rest a sp again. look at philly several yrs ago..... a solid top 3 pitchers for their playoff run.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:14 PM) If Q is your #3, that means you have a really good rotation. in my fanciful dreams.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:07 PM) It seems Danks is in a holding pattern til decisions are made on Lester, Price and possibly Hamels. So I think LDF is right about Danks not going anywhere til the last minute, if at all. yeh the clubs are prob trying to squeeze out every last opportunity to get more.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) LOL, sorry. Beckham just has virtually no value whatsoever at this point. The return you get is a minor leaguer like Sean Bierman - someone who has an idea of how to pitch, but he's low on talent - or Jeff Soptic - a guy who throws hard, has no idea where it's going, and really has nothing else to offer. Like, a 23 or 24 year old Dylan Axelrod would be too much for Beckham right now. but sometimes one can catch lightning.

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) You get multiple A prospects for Quintana otherwise your GM gets fired. God damn prospects are overrated around here. maybe but like every sports forum the home team players and prospects are usually are. welcome to Monday morning GM'ing

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) I was hoping you werent offended by that. I really was just speaking over all and nobody in particular. We can probably Rodon in the mix too as far as examples. man you are a great poster as many here, the only time I really get angry is when race, and stupidity is involve. peace.
