Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?
LDF replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 05:17 PM) Terry Bevington was worse. I will need some help here. was it Bevington that told ozzie to control his kids in the clubhouse after a loss. ozzie took exceptions to it. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) Watching it again, that dude's really lucky he didn't chip/damage his teeth or severely injure his neck by jamming it into the bag. and that dude hit a 460 ft hr that left their park man you got to this ball fly.... he is 23 and may be a free agent this summer.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) Yes it was. They almost won that game too. I can't remember where I posted it, but I seriously just talked about Dunn pitching not that long ago. That's why this is so awesome. that was just funny ..... very good Adam. btw did anyone notice the speed of his fastball?

QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 11:00 PM) its like he is throwing a whiffle ball out there, that is some sick movement. holy crap !!! what kind of pitch was that. a curve?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) Bay might be a lot of things, but he does know who to market to and how to market to them. He just cannot seem to find anyone that can write a script to save their lives. But, he doesnt care, he is swimming in piles of money like Scrooge McDuck I notice that when the movies are partly made in a different country, esp the Asian market, the movie receipts go thru the roof.

what this thread and this season has, is excitement. I don't know about all of you, but this reminds me of growing up and a sprite. me and my 2 cuz grew up in an all sCrubs neighborhood. I agrue and fought with anyone and everyone about the sox whether we were right or not. the same here, everyone is wrong and everyone is right and it doesn't matter to the degree of conversation. we are defending Hahn and in the same breath we will hang him by his toes for over looking something on an hindsight. lets all keep this in mind edit: wow just thinking about it, hanging from the toes must really hurt.

holy crap ..... DSL white sox 16 to 5 edit: and no hrs.

first and foremost, I am a huge fan of Hahn. now I am not blind to some of his mistakes and I am not putting him on a pedestal. I, to my best thoughts, will not hang him out if Hahn doesn't make this a world series club in his first yr nor second. this whole systems and the state of it falls on KW lap. that is another subject. with the short time Hahn has had, he has done a great job. not perfect but a great job with what he has and had. how can anyone say otherwise? did anyone really thought this will be done overnite? what extensive resources do we have at our disposal to use for trades? how lucky is a team going to get by scouring the waiver list? this yr was close in really out performing the avg opinions. lets build on this going going into the offseason. I don't know about most, I am stoke in seeing what the powers to be will do.

I do blame Rich on being over confident on what we had to start the season. first his trust was miss placed on Felipe Paulino, now I believe they manufactured an injury to shelve him for the remainder of the season and avoid further embarrassment. howver on the flip side, who would've thought that Johnson would pitch bad. next the injury to the pen is in no way his fault. the lack of hitting, Aza, DV and Gordo who would have thought they would have been so bad. cat - flowers, I never thought he would be better than a 250 hitter. but the lack of hitting from other position magnified everyone who was not hitting. injury to another key player Avi, with the backup not hitting, this injury hurt. Hahn job to have enuf players to plug in esp in pitching

taking a look at this scenario, I never thought we will in position to compete this yr. with the addition of the players and the pride of the players, we came pretty damn close. we have something like 30-40 mil I sp = + /- 20 mil dh = + / - 13-15 mil rp = + /- 5-8 mil total is 40 + / - is dv going to dh or play of. now everything being equal lets assume danks is not traded.

psst ... Did you know it was RV who start the mlb strike ! -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 08:21 PM) First and foremost the Sox CAN take on any contract. A deal however would be hard to come by. Just speculating on a guy who the Sox have been linked to for awhile now. just a question, do you think that the sox is ready to make that kind of move, maybe in the offseason with a high free agent salary player. I would like your opinion. imho my thoughts will be yes.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 07:11 PM) I'm not sold on Wiggins, but I hope he makes the Cavs regret it I am with you, that is the sweetest that that scene.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 03:18 PM) No. It's just protocol thing, a appreciation thing saying he retired (as a player) a member of the tribe good point, never thought of it like that. good move by cle.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 02:35 PM) I just can't be mad at bullpen usage anymore. They are all suspect, there is very rarely one better move than another, and it all seems to blow up in Robins face. When you add in how terrible the defense is, it is just a recipe for disaster at the end of every game I agree, but as I said before in other ways. we as sox fan has to either embrace that this team is close and is rebuilding or go out and get the missing pieces. this team as is will not last long in the playoff. we need to address those missing parts in the offseason. its killing a lot of posters b/c we are close and it is a tease. I am surprise that the chi fire isn't being blame on RV. everything else is. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:44 PM) 10 years ago today I was lurking on soxtalk and lost the next 10 years of my life as a result ohhhh that is a classic

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 02:22 AM) 29 years ago today is when Fisk tagged out 2 Yankees in one play I remember that play. wow what a great memory.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 02:47 AM) It didn't happen so who cares? b/c as a sports forum, it fun to talk about. you know to scrutinize mlb teams farm systems players.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) Long-targeted, could be revisited, and hope to tell the fan base sometime are the key parts of his quotes, as some have suggested. We want this mystery guy bad so who is it? Our approach under KW/RH is to grab damn-near MLB-ready guys. I woul guess the following: Not a 3B- why use Reed's value to get a guy that isn't your guy anyway. Not a MI- just due to depth. Franklin wouldn't be revisited now. Not 1B- c'mon. MLB ready C, OF or Pitcher by default? good process of elimination. after the trade deadline, I was scouring the fa list coming up and I really don't see a catcher that knock my sox off. so I still think it still might be a mlb ready catcher. murphy or sanchez from yank. pitchers, we need more mlb pitchers either / and / or relief pitchers.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 01:57 AM) Yes, he's an assistant to hahn then signing a honorary contract with cle, does he now work for them.
-
according the mlb trade rumors Jim Thome officially retires and sign an honorary contract with Cle. I thought he was with the sox org in some sort of a roving coach. was I wrong.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 10:42 PM) JR Richard is still alive. He had a stroke but it did not kill him. He even attempted a comeback but was not successful. yeah, I am wrong, he was playing catch before the start of the game and collapse. I don't know why I thought of him being dead..... I am glad he survive.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 07:45 PM) Today at 1:31 PM Sierra has much better tools to take his place. He’s also much younger, and would have no impact on the payroll. If you read some of the scouting reports on him, from the last 2 or 3 years, he is purported to have significant power potential. I had the impression that he was more of a defense and speed guy, but the reason that he has been considered so intriguing is, in large part, due to his power potential. Given that power potential, he provides a more attractive option than Viciedo, as well. He’s only 6 months older than Dayan, and is a very good defensive player, with speed and a great arm. Moreover, Sierra’s power is not derived from the kind of violent, big swing that Viciedo employs. That is likely to result in more contact and a better average than Dayan will be able to achieve. Neither Viciedo nor Sierra have realized their potential, and given the vastly better tools, I’d opt for giving Sierra the playing time. Viciedo does also possess a terrifc arm, but that’s the only other tool he has, aside from the ability to hit for power. As long as Sierra’s projected power potential is legitimate, why not let the player who can contribute in so many other ways, get the chance to develop it? And, of course, Sierra would not negatively impact the payroll. a very good post well thought out. I do disagree with the Sierra and your assessment of him and his talent, however that is my opinion. again a very good reading post.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 06:01 PM) I have nothing against Paul George, it's just not THAT big of a deal. If he had torn his ACL, there wouldn't be nearly so much fretting about it despite it being a more serious injury. They're acting like the dude died. This happens to soccer players all the time. PG will be fine and unless they want to go Rose level with the recovery, he should be back before the season ends. And yes, it will be a bad thing if this kills international basketball. It drives interest around the world and a game like last night was a lot of fun to watch. Of the four major sports, basketball is by far the least likely for players to get season ending injuries. That's why Paul George is the first guy to have an injury of real note while playing for Team USA the injury is not life threatening > yes I agree, he is not like JR Richards who died while warming up for a game. the scene is plain and simple horrible. those visual scene of him breaking his leg is what I believe many are talking about. in addition, while we are fans of the sports doesn't mean we wish the worst and he still had a career ahead of him. now everything is a question mark. I feel for him that is all.
