  1. I am going to continue this thread for waiver and DFA info, if that is ok. I saw that there are several names that got listed for dfa. I figure with the trades happening and several team getting more than 1 player, I thought there might be some players avail. Evan Scribner rhp Oak Jose De Paula lhp > release Zach McAllister rhp cle > does anyone know more about this one. he was dfa but still on the 40 roster
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 05:26 PM) I think this might be why.. well.. In his own words. a good find.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Espn saying he's out season. Maybe I'm downplaying this but that seems premature. man, I saw the replay and it was gut wrenching brutal scene. I feel sorry for him and hope the best. I guess someone with medical brackground will know more, but I think a plate and screws will be inserted. I can imagine that this is a career ending injury.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 04:35 PM) Butler is gone. But do we really need another bases-clogging RH hitter? If we can get him for $6-8 million per year and control his rights for at least 2 years, then maybe. But a one year deal and then losing him to FA doesn't help the Sox at all, since he wouldn't be around in 2016. you do have a point, Butler can hit 8-12 hrs as well. we still need a viable opti for DH
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) It simply means that if KC doesn't exercise the team option for 2015, they have to pay him the $1 million buy-out provision. damn I was hoping the Butler can use the same option as well. again many thanks.
  6. To Hahn, I would like to inform you of a no account of a writer who is slamming a player. I have seen the sox get offended when the sports writer have used the press to make a point to belittle those who are players in any of the organization that JR owns and hope you can see to it. with what you have available, meaning resources and staff, I hope you are equally offended and hope you can bury this asshole. with best regards a loyal fan.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) I think Gordon is all but gone. They can't pay him $5 million for the same performance they can get for $500,000 with Semien or Johnson. So he is gone. Viciedo I think will be traded in the off-season. Butler has a team option for $12.5 million. I can't see KC exercising that option with his past couple years, so he is likely going to hit free agency. If you could sign him to a two-year, $16-million deal with maybe a third-year player option based on incentives, he could be a solid bargain (assuming he starts hitting again). thank for the info. the 1 million buyout clause means that the club could buy him out or does that mean both the club or the player can use the buyout? this the what I am confuse about. Gordon, and DV. I will wait till the sox brass does something about them. I will keep them listed until then.
  8. my problem with Grandal is his hitting. he plays 1b and catcher.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) Hahn was on 670 this morning and said that it was for a long targeted player. He also said that it "could" be revisited in the offseason. I'm going with Yasmani Grandal. He was in the lineup and warming up and then was scratched for no reason. Sox have been interested in the past. nice I forgot about that. ummmm
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 03:15 PM) Dare I say Triple Crown? even if he doesn't with the triple crown, if he was up in the top of it, it will be impressive. Meanwhile, only two of Abreu's homers qualified as "no-doubt" home runs btw does anyone know to this hit tracker this idiot is spouting about??? this is a question for out stat people who I trust more and I will put up against this asshole.
  11. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 02:30 AM) After the Bacon/Balls/Dicks trade scenario Castro was my second thought. The Marlins Danks rumors coupled with the big deal the Marlins made with the Astros, the fact that we may have had interest in Cosart, etc. there could have been something there, and the 2 teams just decided it would be easier to make a standard 2 team deal rather than involve all the salary complications the Sox side would involve. But if it was Castro coming here, Danks and cash going to FLA, prospects from the Sox heading out etc. that could make some sense. I don't know if that was the trade Hahn was talking about. my main question is why is the marlins wanting to do anything unless they have some sort of knife pointing at their heart. it like mlb bosses know you are not trying to get salary, but if you do not make an effort or an appearance of an effort, the mlb bosses will cone at you again. that is my opinion. I think the deal that fell thru may be with the yanks and the prospect in question may be 1 or their catching prospects.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) CF - Eaton 2B - Semien 1B - Abreu 3B - Gillaspie RF - Garcia SS - Ramirez LF - FA/Trade DH - FA/Trade C - FA/Trade/Flowers (who will still likely be the best option we have) I would try a buy-low with Billy Butler for DH. And for LF, I may just try Micah Johnson out there. We would likely have enough money to go out and try to get a high-end starter. there is a lot of assumptions on your lineup. my main opinion on your line up is ss-ramirez and conor. I think they need to bat 2 and 3 in front of Abreu. I guess you are hoping DV, and Gordo are traded. Butler is one of the players I would like to see however he has an option. with that, I will admit I do not know how the option works on the FA's.
  13. QUOTE (black jack @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) If you listen to the radio, those clowns think Rizzo is the more favorable player right now. Abreu isn't even the top 1st baseman in Chicago. Then again, they thought Lee was better than Kong and Sosa was better than Thomas... lets put it even better, while I do agree with you, the sox will always be the bastard unwanted child. no matter what the sox says, do, or even how many championship the sox win, the sox will always take 2nd place. now with the bolded words, for some, according to some he will be better. that is if they want to only see the homers. true fans will look at the whole profile and know what Thomas brought to the table.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) From a rotation standpoint, I think we'll add one RH starter to slot before or after Quintana. As bad as Masterson has been, he seems like a guy who might take a short-term deal and hope for a rebound. That's the type of low risk move we should look into, assuming the more impactful free agent pitchers all command ridiculous contracts. I think an opening day 1-2-3-4 or Sale, Quintana, Masterson, & Danks is pretty decent. With any rebound from Justin, it's a rotation that can keep you afloat with a solid offense. As for the #5 spot, have Noesi compete with Johnson (hopefully an offseason fixes him) and see what you got. I think we should plan on Rodon assuming a rotation spot as soon as his service time needs are met so we get the extra half year out of him. Most likely he replaces Noesi/Johnson, but if one of those guys does well, then Danks is probably the odd man out. Regardless, once Rodon is up, the rotation has a chance to be very good next year, with guys like Montas & Danish likely at AA and only a year away. a very good post and I agree. I am talking about pitching now. 1,2 ,3 , now I am looking at Sale, Quint, and Danks. going into the offseason. Free agent season comes around, watch out,, I bet we will be buyers but not crazy buyers. Dank is a stopgap kind of pitcher until some of the young talents comes around. you have Noesi as #5. the starting 5 will look sweet. my only concern is with Noesi, has he turn the corner and produce as he is this yr? if not then we have another hole to fix.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 05:01 AM) Not sure what that has to do with replacing Beckham? Beckman was batting #2 after his rtn from injury then when his avg went up and when it went down. I for my opinion, the sox should have had a better hitter at the #2 slot.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 05:01 AM) I'll break it down positionally. Catchers Tyler Flowers Wilin Rosario (traded for Dayan Viciedo) Infielders Jose Abreu Alexei Ramirez Marcus Semien Micah Johnson Andy Wilkins Conor Gillaspie Leury Garcia Outfielders Adam Eaton Avisail Garcia Alejandro De Aza Moises Sierra Marcus Semien Micah Johnson Leury Garcia Starting Pitchers Chris Sale Jose Quintana John Danks Hector Noesi winner of ST battle between Scott Carroll/Erik Surkamp/Erik Johnson Relief Pitchers Jake Petricka Ronald Belisario Zach Putnam Dan Webb Surkamp (if he loses 5th starter battle) Carroll (if he loses 5th starter battle) Tom Gorzelanny Jesse Crain (if Johnson is not winner of 5th starter battle) Not the most eventful offseason, culminating in us buying low on Wilin Rosario and selling low on Tank who might profile better for a COL team that plays in a hitter friendly park and is getting sick of Rosario. Sox treat catcher position as open position, but hope Rosario earns it with his bat and remains adequate defensively. Rather than target a full-time DH, that position will be used much like it is now in Charlotte to get extra at-bats for guys and partial rest days for guys. Same with LF - no obvious full-time player there, but instead a way to relieve the glut of infielders you have. And while Gillaspie is your starting 3B, but may lose most starts against LHP. I would say there's some chance Sanchez gets the nod over Micah to start the year. We don't target SPs in FA due to barely adequate depth and desire for continued payroll flexibility. By the time SP depth looks like significant concern, hopefully Rodon emerges from a MiLB stint as SP. Sample lineup against RHP Eaton CF Ramirez SS Abreu 1B Gillaspie 3B A. Garcia RF Wilkins DH Rosario C Johnson LF Semien 2B against LHP Eaton CF Ramirez SS Abreu 1B A. Garcia RF Rosario DH Gillaspie 3B Semien 2B Flowers C Sierra RF very well thought our, you did a lot of work to get this done and with in-depth comments.
  17. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 04:55 AM) I think we could perform better if we replace Beckham with one of our MI from AAA well I was all for getting Alexei or Conor to bat #2 in the beginning of the yr and keep him there. but then again, what the hell do I know
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 04:44 AM) Listen. May of us think this team could have a better record if not for injuries. To me this team is performing nicely and I think our rebuild is ending earlier than expected. That makes me happy I can more than imagine at the surprise within the sox brass as how well the sox are doing. prob even getting a little disappointed that they may not draft high again. however this success this yr, I hope with bring the fans back to the park. the future is really starting to look nice
  19. no need to answer this, but fwiw I wonder if the team or teams that may have had dialogue with the sox, did they get something close to what was being discuss with the sox?
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 04:10 AM) Cruz and Melky? Nah, too many roiders whether they can be forgiven or have that part of the past buried, I can't say anything. when someone does a mistake and got caught, did they not pay the punishment? if the baseball bosses allowed them back after their punishment served and it been 2-3 yrs later, why not allow them to be on the sox?
  21. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 03:00 AM) I wouldn't touch Melky with LDF's hand. He's a guy that was busted with PEDs (that funnily enough lined up to his best years) and that will be on the wrong side of 30 from day one. If he wasn't an obvious juicer it would be a slighter better move but there is way too much risk there and while a team like the Yankees (welcome home buddy; funny story one time when I was sitting in CF at Yankee Stadium Melky missed a ball right in front of us because he was bantering with the crowd and got booed after it happened badly) could easily take on the downside risk of a 6 year 75 million dollar deal, Chicago would be advised to stay far away. I don't really know who I would target in the offseason but things can change pretty rapidly for many teams and players that wouldn't even be on anyone's radar as trade bait get dealt time and time again. I will say that if Hahn pulls off a trade like Eaton for Santiago to shore up LF or 2B that would be a f***ing a trade. Right now obvious weaknesses (including some minor league depth if appropriate) are, in rough order: C LF 2B SP PEN DH Now, if Viciedo shows ANYTHING over the next 60 odd games maybe you consider making him the full time DH, or vast majority DH, but until then, hell no you look to trade him in the offseason or relegate him to the bench. Flowers, FWIW, seems to be a 1 or 1.5 WAR type catcher -- aka an excellent backup. Don't know how the Sox are going to get a catcher but it's a big concern imo. 2B only propped up by upper minors depth, MLB current talent is easily the worst of any position on the team, Beckham is a negative WAR player hitting like this, defense can't overcome a .268 OBP. SP the foundation is there up top and really they "only" need to find one good starter to have a fairly solid 1-5. Plus, Cooper. Ditto the PEN spend a little $$$ (10 million or so) and swing a trade for a solid setup guy mid season if necessary (hey, depth in the minors, hurray!). Hope health doesn't play up your plans. _____ Bottom line, this team isn't that far away but they need another good offseason. If this offseason is as good as last year's, they are 86-88 wins good.
  22. this is the first time I seen this with an Ump. Jose Offerman
  23. CF - Eaton SS - Ramirez 3B - Gillaspie 1B - Abreu DH - FA / N Cruz 2 yr option for 3 LF - FA-Melky 2 yr opt 3-4 yr //// I said this last month and got flame... either why I have not chg my opin or other FA or a minor leaguer now in our system. RF - Garcia / DV 2B - Gordo - is he traded / DFA ??? Semien C - Flowers or FA or trade. 1 - Sale 2 - Quintanna or 3 - FA-Masterson, 3-4 yrs // there are several pit w/ club opt that I would like to see played out 4 - Danks / question - is he going to be traded or not. 5 - Noesi / any other minor pitch who has a strong camp RP I do not know enuf of them.
  24. well I just got in, long day, by what I can read and what I can tell, seem as many are disappointed for no trades. I bet anything it is not for the lack of trying. oh well, it is going to being an interesting several months esp for the waive movement. I wonder if there would be any huge talk in the offseason regarding trades. I think as fans we need to re-audit our systems esp with prospects and who we can move in trades. think of which prospects is the future and hope for more diamonds in rough that we may pickup. this may put a heavy emphasis on Free Agents signing.
  25. major question, is your company need a store front location or can you start from the house. overhead, do a little as possible, to save your start up money. first start with knowing the tax law and see how to can work all expenses to be deducted. mode of transportation. know the tax law. advertising, be prepare, 20-30% will go for advertising. salary and employees and of course you are also a employee. future expansion, you may need to open 2 LLC, 1 to be the parent company and the other as the sub. this will help in banking, contracts, salary and will put a buffer between you and any major problems that may develop. like this you can closed the company without affecting your family finance. Protection. know when to start with ref to seasonal time. like will xmas be better than spring, ex-if you are in the pool business, you will not want to start in xmas but right after easter. so timing is the better word. do you need a sale rep ...... plan for that. think again how to save your start up money, furniture, utilities, rent, ins. again some owners keep forgetting, you constantly need to rethink on your start up money budget. to setup the quickbooks acct and continue to learn. if you can swing a loan, work from the loan and save your start up as an emergency fund. try not to spend for ofc equipment and see if you can rent furniture, machines. then this will be an expense of doing business with the lose of age. backup everything in 3 copies, 1 for your acct, 1 for your lawyer and keep one in the safety deposit box at the bank >>>
