QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) I think the Sox will look at a college player next year in the first round again to try and add another piece to the core. Vanderbilt has two RHP's that should go in the range that Sox will be picking and OF DJ Stewart from FSU seems like a guy that could move quickly to fill a void in the OF. He hit .351/.472/.557 this season, numbers that compare favorably to this years #10 pick Michael Conforto. I too think that they will go the college rt, faster to the big league. I think we are in decent shape with pitching, however you can never have too much. if there is a knockout positional player, I wouldn't be surprise if the sox go that rt. the sox are really not in great to good shape with OF prospects nor with DH or catching. again, if pitching is the best at the pick for the sox, then so be it, pitching it is.

QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 07:13 PM) Matt Davidson and Erik Johnsin, the preseason #2 and #3 prospects in the entire system, fell off the face of the earth. Also, thre#1 and #4 prospects (Abreu and Semien) in the system both lost rookie eligibility. Even after all that turmoil at the very top enough guys have taken steps forward that I feel, as a whole, our system is better now than it was then. when does the other intl signing happens. meaning the Asian players, and other (Cuban) players?

IMHO, I think that fans are sooooo hungry for the young prospect to succeed that most of the fans are expecting the process of develppment to happen faster.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) He'll go down as one of my favorite Sox players of all-time. Always an awesome guy on/off the field. that was class by Mark, I am glad his teammates had class as well for this act. good job by the fans

Do you think Ilitch will give Scherzer $210 million over 7 years?
LDF replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) He'd leave something like $100 million on the table. That makes the answer, no. 100 mil is a lot of money, don't get me wrong. but Max Scherzer is 30 yr old now, this is his final contract. His agent will want 1 final contract and he wants yrs and of course money. now the questions 1. do you think he will accept less in yrs and money 2. I hate to say this and be a kill joy, but do you think the sox will be to only team coming up with money this your scenario 3. I forgot what JR said last week about contracts, but do you think he will make this contract. I believe the sox should get a ace pitcher like Scherzer, but a 7 yr contract ???? peace -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 10:53 PM) Baltimore needs a LH bat for playoff push to go with Cruz and paying Dunn 1 month salary is doable. again pls know that I am all for trading players that can help the sox. however, when was the last time sox traded with Balt? if I remember correctly, there is some feeling that has been tweak. (I tried to find the article) either way I hope that I am wrong and sox can trade with Balt. for the rtn, who cares at least Dunn can play for a playoff team to end his career.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) I see Dunn to Baltimore by the end of month. i am for them being traded. I prob was in for trading them even earlier than the ASG. but if they were not trade by now, why would any team want them in sept?

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 08:15 PM) We know what we got in Dunn, Beckham, Tank, etc. I want to see some young guys in September. Perfect opportunity to give them a long look. remind me, when can the sox call you the prospect and expand the roster?
-
QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 17, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) Hahn should be ashamed of himself for not having DFA'd Beckham and Dunn by now. Why? according to you he should. Loyalty is one to the sox best rep and that is b/c of JR. i argue this point many time before and my stance has not change. With to cut throat part of baseball esp with the salary and having agents wanting the most and not backing down. Why should baseball owner have or give off a imagine of being the nice person. the ugly side of baseball is the business side, but it is expected that baseball owners should still play nice nice.

LDF replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
you have to think about 1 thing when you are talking about Scherzer, you really got to remember who his agent is. do you think he will accept anything less that what they are talking about or accept anything less is yrs? -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) Ramirez Beckham Abreu Garcia Viciedo Konerko Gillaspie Flowers De Aza man, I would've wanted conor to bat 2 instead of beckham. I have no faith in him. then move de aza to conor spot and move gordo down.

this topic is one of my fav's >> prospects. the sox have quietly assemble a core of very good prospects. esp considering the state it was in several yrs ago. again this was done without having a top 5-10 pick in the draft, except this yr. the sox scout have done a very good job in scouting and finding gems. now comparing the sox to lets say the northsiders, they have had a lot of prospects that were drafted high and that is why their system looks great. Bos gutted their system and still have a great group of prospects. you can see where I am going with this, the sox have not had a back to back yrs of high draft picks and the sox never gutted their system but still the future looks really good. can you imagine what would it look like if the sox were to have gutted the team, lets say 2 or 3 yrs ago? mutiny by the hard core fans, its the fans that have kept the pressure for the brass to keep on trying to improve. most importantly, it is the sox good fortune to have sox brass who also cares about the team and its fans. I can't wait for this offseason and 2015 draft.

"Relic" Reinsdorf takes a direct shot from Passan
LDF replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) Which is why they have a five year window after 2014 to get it done...realistically, more like four, 2015-2018. At the end of this six-year contract, Abreu will be 33 and declining, so it was actually perfect timing on the part of the White Sox to have him close to cost-controlled and in his prime career years. Picking up Abreu at 33 would be similar to the situation the Angels now are in with Pujols. I like what you said and good point. however I missed on the point I was trying to make. lets assume for this discussion, Jose A is a free agent, can anybody imagine what it will cost to keep him. again without any factors taken into accord, like age and stat adjustment. let me go further and use det and their pitching free agent, 30 mil a yr. the cap is needed per my opinion, b/c the game will price themselves out of the main core of fans, us (those who have to work for a living). -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) Reinsdorf is actually right in wanting a salary cap cause owners are such buffoons they never will stop paying players exorbitant salaries. Pretty soon the average cost of a ticket will be about 100 or more bucks a game which will continue to make baseball a dying sport. It never was designed to be such an elitist game. Say what you want about me being out of touch regarding costs of the fan, but it's true. The average Joe has truly written off going to baseball games. Too much other stuff to do in the summer and it's not worth the cost, especially with games becoming more boring than ever (pitching changes, no steroid induced monster home runs; except from Tyler Flowers....boom minus the steroids!) To get a salary cap, and a shot at sanity, however, they'd have to shut down baseball for 3-4 years then start over once players would be willing to cross the picket lines and play again. A work stoppage of 3-4 years wouldn't help this dying game, either. Only way to keep down salaries is owner collusion and the owners just won't stop paying. Owners are out of touch, ego-stricken buffoons, though, and I'm glad this writer called out Jerry and some others. Doesn't hurt to have their billionaire egos blasted a bit. good post Greg. i agree in most part, 1. the league will soon be pricing them selves out of a fan base following. fans today in most cases can not pay for 3-4 tickets for a family nite out at the ball park - game thicket $, food, parking. the tv will be a cheap second to watch a game. except for the die hard fans, not that many of the family will sit down an watch a game. the young kids would rather go out. 2. the prices for some of the fa's this yr is going to be crazy. can you imagine what Jose A. will require to resign with the sox??? -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) One of the many reasons I think the biggest priority for the next commissioner, outside of the labor agreement, is speeding up the pace of baseball. Drop replay, put in some serious regulations to increase the action / speed. IIRC, the length of a baseball game today vs. 40 years ago is significantly longer. I'm sure part of that is commercial breaks (although those existed back in the day too). However, since 1970, the average baseball game has increased by approximately 30 minutes (from roughly 2.5 hr's to almost 3hr's). There are also more pitching changes now, I'm going to presume, then 30 or 40 years ago, however, I'd go to more extreme's to limit the amount of pitches and the total amount of time you can take during pitching changes and also potentially alter rules for mound visits in an inning. Maybe truly cap it at 1 per inning vs. current rules which can allow multiple in an inning (presuming the 2nd time you visit each pitcher you are pulling them). the baseball bosses will never improve the speed of the game and with that, I am sure they are trying to find way to increase it. reason, every 10 minutes there is a series of 3-5 mins of commercials $$$$$. or in case of base ball increase the between the innings. $$$$ will always win

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) The problem is that Willingham's a terrible defensive outfielder coming off a down season and in the declining period of his career. It's a gamble. If KW was good at one aspect of his job, it was identifying these "buy low" bargain acquisitions of veterans. I am a little confuse here. Caulfield, earlier when I mention about the should invest in certain players, Melky as an example, you mention that he was on the wrong side of 30 and not worth the investment. now you are advocating on the Willingham who is 35. I am confuse with your logic. no offense is intended, just lost.

I was reading about the game tonite and found an interesting tidbit. according to cbs sports the Sox bullpen has 18 blown saves this season. however of those blown saves I wonder the the numerical number of those were actually losses. what is an average blown save would be for a good team? I wonder how many more wins would have been added to the w/l record? (enuf for the playoff) does the team have a viable option next yr on the team or in the minors? BULLPEN BLUES The White Sox won despite the bullpen blowing a save for the 18th time this season, tied with the Pirates for third most in the majors. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametracker/r...20140812_CHW@SF

thanks guys I wasn't totally sure of the rules. I really never paid attention to the waivers list.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 12:20 AM) Makes zero sense. Must have been no one was being aggressive in blocking a potential trade with Mets? Clearly Mets weren't going to just let him go. some team can claim him, then they would have to work out a trade with the mets, if no agreement then the mets could withdraw him. is that correct? If it is correct maybe the asking price is too much.

Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?
LDF replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 06:01 AM) I'd love to see someone point out a team as bad as this Sox squad is from a talent perspective that has been any good. They lost 3 of 4 to a contending team with their leadoff man on the shelf and their big man in the middle not being the usual monster he is....I don't know why that is shocking to anyone, and why again it "proves Robin is a bad manager". Hell they may have gotten a win if Conor lets that ball roll foul, that catcher who hit that ball looks awful at baseball so there's a good chance he does squat. I suppose Robin has an earpiece in Conor's ear telling him to try and make that play. And I'm sick of the whole defensive fundamentals s***. Most these guys have been playing baseball all their lives, if they're still bad defensively, there's nothing Robin can do that hasn't been tried by every other manager they've had from little league, through the minors, and into the big league. There is no magic tricks these major league coaches pull with their players, they either have it or they don't. I don't care how crazy people think his statement was but I agree wholeheartedly with Hawk when he basically said managers don't matter.....Talent wins ball games, not the manager. I agree with you 100% ...... the end -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 05:39 AM) To start Rodon's clock for Robin Ventura September mop-up ball would be ridiculous. He is precisely the player who should not be rushed. and you certainly don't waste his time as a bullpen pitcher. Surkamp is a strange send-back, with no other lefty available. unless it was a wink wink deal with his camp for the contract to be sign.

I enjoyed reading this, but it brings up the same theme. How can anyone be blamed if the team is rebuilding. there are many holes in a rebuild, pinpointing several will not help the rebuild and seriously, what can be done if the personnel you have is doing their best. it all need to be address when the sox are almost there, done with the rebuild.
