    2014 Films Thread

    QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 05:03 AM) Grantland write up about how awful this movie summer is. Who woulda thought comic book movies would be what ultimately are keeping this afloat right now? thanks for getting the article by grantland. I go to movies a lot. the reason I will save, personal. but movies this summer with the exception of the marvel theme really sucked. there were marvel and then the anime movies, with very little on good movies. I know its all about $$$$. max money for profit level. look at "if I stay", the fault in our stars (something like that), and other movies like that. it was low cost to make yet they max out on the profit. how bout those movies that they are regurgitating and hope they will become a hit. the movie Fright Night is one that comes to mind. movies like Ideal husband with no action but smart dialog bomb but it was a great movie. either way >>> what the hell do I know.
  2. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 10:17 AM) If I were Rick Hahn, I would seriously consider trading Jose Quintana for a package of young prospects. While I do think Quintana has been a bright spot for the team and one of the best pickups the Sox have done in years, however I think he reached the ceiling of his prime and will never pitch better than he is pitching right now. Trading Quintana could be very beneficial for the Sox because both traditional scouts and sabremetricians love him, amd teams always over pay for pitching, especially if its an under 30 left handed pitcher who is among the league leaders in quality starts and is signed to very team friendly contract. Some of the teams that I would initiate trade talks with are the Pirates, Dodgers, Rockies and maybe the Rangers. *Pirates get Quintana, Josh Phegly and cash/Sox recieve Austin Meadows, Tyler Glasnow and Cole Tucker. *Dodgers get Quintana, and cash/Sox receive Corey Seager, low level prospect and INTL bonus pool money. *Rockies get Quintana and Chris Beck/Sox receive Ryan McMahon amd David Dahl. *Rangers get Quintana/Sox receive Jurickson Profar and low level prospects. Trading Quintana could add high end talent to the Sox's farm system and could add some great players to the team's core going forward. THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!! I have been wanting to say that for a while. I even mention it before. the response were all valid excuses. the point I see as a counter is he is lock up in a nice salary. but the counter is the sox can get instant help for players that are needed to fill out the roster and maybe take the sox to the next level. the hole left may only be a temp, if the sox uses the fa route until combine with the prospect performing. the only problem may be if the sox does not go fa route. if they don't then the trade will never happen. the biggest question which we as fans will never know, will the sox go the fa rt? to pick up the pieces needed or are they content with the team and prospects thereby saving money. there are salaries the are carrying that need to be come off the books.

    QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) This further proves the point about the length and amount of the contracts. can you pls explain. are you ref salary contract or contracts from int'l free agents? thanks

    Masahiro Tanaka

    QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 07:45 PM) that quote you highlighted was from the article. having pitchers throwing that much is just stupid. I wonder if this will damage looking to the Asian market for prospect, meaning pitching prospects.

    QUOTE (JamesDean @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 05:09 PM) It seems to be a different type of game in Japan. A couple of high school pitchers threw a lot more than that this past weekend. Taiga Matsui, of Chukyo High School, threw 709 pitches over 50 innings in the semifinal match of the National High School Baseball Tournament which lasted fours days. His opponent Jukiya Ishioka, from Sotoku High School, who also lasted all 50 innings, threw 689 pitches. It wasn't all that long ago when an American pitcher might have thrown 160 pitches either. that quote you highlighted was from the article. having pitchers throwing that much is just stupid.
  7. QUOTE (aboz56 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) How is it personal to say that he's awful? It's just stating a fact. saying a fact is again 1 thing. but constantly making it personal is another. he is traded, it should end there.
  8. I have nothing against honoring a player such as paulie. for adam, they why not other players who played and left.
  9. I was reading a Japanese baseball site and I saw this. it was very earth shattering article. talk about abusing pitchers. Pretty much all the commentary in the North American media has been that Tanaka throwing 160 pitches in a start (a loss no less), and then 15 in relief the next day is, at best, a bit of a question mark, and, at worst, a sign of abuse or overuse.

    QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) Garko was more of a doubles hitter. Cliff Floyd might be a better comparison. Of course, it's doubtful that he ever reaches that ceiling, but Ryan Garko's about the last name I would associate with Barnum...he's not even LH'ed. this goes to prove how much of a crap shot it is for draft pick. even if you draft high in the first round it still a gamble.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) Adam had one good year with us and it wasn't even that great honestly. It would have been nice to get some more out of him, but sometimes you just have to cut your losses. I wonder what San Fran was offering.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) Bring up Davidson to start the year at the hot corner, and move Connor to left. that is one option that I have been thinking about. Semien, Sanchez, Johnson need positions.
  13. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) I wish Dunn and his family nothing but the best. He didn't live up to expectations but he never made excuses and he handled things well IMO. If Dunn does retire then that ends any future discussions about the Sox trying to sign him for 2015. Edit: I agree that Navarro is still the biggest disappointment in Sox history. I forget which sports writer it was but the guy said when the Sox went on road trips Navarro needed a U-haul to carry his ERA . with Navarro I would put Todd Ritchie for Kip Wells trade.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 06:17 PM) (The White Sox still ate his salary for August). there are several factors here. oak needed to see they needed a bat. the sox ate some of his sept salary. I am saying if oak offered more, the sox may have eaten the rest of the salary.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 06:16 PM) The only reason we need to know that this year is if he's out of options, and frankly, him having success in September would be a decent confidence builder but you wouldn't give him LF next year based on that until you can see him finally find a groove at Charlotte. Won't be mad if he comes up, but do object to "we need to know if he's viable" right now. He's not going to be in anyone's way if he does another year at Charlotte. having some success in sept can lead to a good spring next yr. either way the sox will need to know if he is still a prospect or not.
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 06:10 PM) It happened on the last day because Oakland wanted to pay as little as possible. I am sure if Oak offered more, the sox may have eaten more of his salary,
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) Is Mitchell out of options? not that I know of. I just meant to say that the sox need to know if he is a viable part of the future or a career minor league player
  18. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 05:58 PM) Bassitt, Rienzo, Carroll, Cleto, Guerra, Surkamp, Snodgress, etc., etc. this team is going to be loaded with guys trying to take a 2015 bullpen slot as it is. All the guys mentioned also have at least some experience in the high minors and most have a good bit of MLB experience now. this is a good thing. more changes need to happen. then in the offseason the sox will need to audit the team. but until then, the sox need more bodies.
  19. The only thing that can make this day even better, DV and / or Danks traded as well, and for some serviceable prospects.
  20. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 05:19 PM) Mitchell pretty much has to be called up. There are going to be players we'll have to protect this year plus there will be our Rule-5 pick (Hahn has made one each of his 2 years as GM). We'll need to know whether Mitchell is worth keeping at all and if so, is he worth keeping over Danks, because no way are we planning on loading up the 40-man with 4th & 5th OF candidates. totally agree. the sox need to see, if the Mitchell of the last month is the real potential or not. it is cut throat decision but it has to be made.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) At least it's not Tourette Syndrome. @#$%$#@ !! very funny
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) Tied for the fourth worst rs/ra allowed differential in the majors. Tied with the cubs for the 7th worst record...picking 8/9 in the first rnd. well the sox have more days coming to figure this out, before the season ends.
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 05:05 PM) If absolute best effort is not having an offseason program, then yeah, Dunn put in his best effort. Dunn seems like a decent dude but it was a move that had to made. Dumping Beckham, ADA and Dunn just makes me so much more excited for the offseason. There should be lots of new faces all over the place. Unfortunately, Dunn leaving town brings on the unintended consequence that TUC will have to come up with new material, sigh. wasn't there a time, last yr or before when he freely gave his spot for someone? sorry I can't remember like I use to. either way, Dunn is a class person, and deserve my best wish. it was just, bad luck that the sox didn't do more while he was here.
  24. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 07:26 AM) You're missing a comma.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 07:15 AM) If you need help I can help you. I was a star English student and can write sentences. thanks, but I am too freaking old. I am retired and in my 60's. but I am serious, I went to all the tutoring I can. some who knows me says I got decent verbal skills, but the writing I another story. the dyslexia I have is the problem.
