  1. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 07:08 AM) Tonight the Sox gained a half game on..... Rockies, Astros Sox are still sitting at #8. Sox are 6.5 GB of the #1 pick, and 3.5 GB of the #5 pick thanks for being that 1 constant of info. is it bad to cheer for the sox losing?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 04:59 AM) If by a lot of people you mean Caulfield, then yes, a lot of people were touting him as the future closer. I too had him in my top 10 and thought for sure, he was going to fly to the major quickly.
  3. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) this explains the poor spelling and grammar nah, the poor spelling and grammar has to do with lousy English skills. I study and study and still when it comes to writing, I never improved. I grew in chi on 24th and cali across the street from cook county jail. Harrison hs. I normally take offense with my lack of English skills but it is a fact of life.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 09:52 PM) hey Balta, by any chance the forbes mag you were reading about the profit and loss, do you know if you have a link to it or what month it is?
  5. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 05:47 PM) I rather explore another avenue or trade. after the season I was going to do this whole thing about possible trades. but I will start here. are the sox and as a fan you prepare to trade a valuable piece (player) to help get the right player. a young good avg power hitter. if so who will that player that the sox is trading?
  6. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 06:01 PM) Ldf & Peavy, are you guys roommates in Senegal or something; where do you boys live? Bayou country with a s*** load of gators and shrimp and most aggressive snakes. Louisiana. I miss my chi pizza.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) WHITE SOX MAKE THREE ROSTER MOVES FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Saturday, August 30, 2014 © 2014 Chicago White Sox sorry to see Carroll sent down. at least he can say he made it to the "show" not a lot of players can say that.
  8. In a perfect world, baseball clubs will find the perfect right / left hitting lineup. the players to choose from, what will be available, is not all that enticing. I see the sox having to fill those empty holes by picking a player who can produce rather than having perfect right / left hitting lineup.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) He should clarify that by saying "the baseball team, not the city" unless he is referring to the overall ratings of the city, or the economy of the city or the crime rate of the city. it is a fair statement.

    Job Hunt Thread

the question asked is a very hard one to answer. I am with the post that said you may not like the answer and move on. however asking a simple question in a pretext of a decision making question with another company in the mix may be a good follow up. either way, no matter which way you go. best of luck.
  11. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) How this lineup look like Eaton Johnson Abreu Martinez Garcia Ramirez Gillespie Morse Phegley flowers free agent at this time all mock lineup is all subjective, so there is no right or wrong. I will be making one during the summer. but remember, no matter how the sox finish, the future is starting to look great. the cliché of "wait till next yr" has a great meaning.
  12. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 06:25 AM) 3rd RD is probably the earliest I would go, but I'd still always prefer to draft a starting pitcher and let him fail, and then go to the pen. a good point. I would see the sox pick a pitcher who has a fastball in the 95+ no secondary or weak secondary pitch. those guys are usually groomed to be RP. either way when Joshua finish his write up. we as fans should have those pitchers identify.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 30, 2014 -> 08:26 AM) I agree with you but the team desperately needs a left handed bat (Martinez is a switch hitter) in the middle of the order between Abreu and Garcia. I woukd sign Martinez but it has to be to a reasonable, short term contract. I am not going to respond to the VM interest. I agree about needing a bat, esp a LH bat, but I want to see the int'l fa's signed. then I guess I will be able to see that the sox need. the other thing I am thinking, with the 3 mi getting ready to contribute, is 1 of them going to move to the OF or where to put him? this is not what I want but what the team has now. again, what direction will the sox / Hahn go? cat - flowers 1b - Jose A ss - Aelxia 3b - conor rf - Avi cf - Eaton lf - DV 2b - Sanchez ??? where to put Semien, Micah. how bout trading, DV 1 of the left over of the Semien or Micah? if not do the sox move DV to the dh role and see if Semien or Micah can handle LF? I know 1 thing. this summer is going to be fun when the sox need to address the above questions.
  14. I find this very interesting article. I in my suspicious state is asking why would something like this come out now. I mean its one thing to discuss it in a fan forum but another in an article. question, would det use this as tampering against chi? if it was a true article, why would chi sox org talk about it now? how bout a it being a possible diversional tactic against who and for what reason? I just don't know about the validity of this article at this time.
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) Are there any nasty closers in this years draft? I know you don't draft for need, and some are against drafting RP early, but I was kinda hoping the Sox took Jacob Lindgren (Specifically him because he's a LHP) or Nick Burdi last year.... I know they don't really get the hype but sans maybe Ben Brewster, I can't think of a single RP to be "excited" about. There's been talk that Lindgren might get called up this year after posting a ridiculous 48/10 K/BB rate in 24 innings across 4 levels. (he went in the 2nd, 11 picks after Adams) there are some pitchers who was a relief pitchers but are now being used as a starter / rp. now beyond the 1 rd I am not privy to that data base.
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) Yeah, for sure, makes sense. I am personally just really, really into alternating handedness because of how good specialist relievers are these days. But that's just my opinion and I don't have a ton of evidence to suggest it's as important as I feel it is. Also, if we had a righty leadoff guy, I'd totally be on board with Gillaspie at #2. this was most enjoyable discussion. I am otta here for now. peace
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) I think it is safe to say that the scenario is interesting. I think the Sox would have avoided dealing with Borass and got a cheaper deal done with Hoffman. The Cubs seemingly had an early deal worked out with Schwarber for WAY under slot. Do they make the same move, or do they alter their entire draft strategy and go for Rodon and sacrifice the younger high end talent that they signed later for overslot? As for the White Sox, are they then able to sign De Oca? Maybe they make more choices like De Oca with the lower signing total from Hoffman. The counter-factuals are endless. I really think that sCrub will have pick the pitcher and I am sure they had a "if thing fall as we see it" agreement.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:13 PM) There's evidence that the #5 hole is a great place for a high contact hitter with some propensity for doubles. I think that Alexei, at his best, is a great candidate for #5. From #4 though, I want more dingers. Most studies point to #4 being an even more important position for an all-around offensive threat than people think -- most people's idea of a perfect #3 hitter is usually a better #4 hitter. IMO, this lineup is best with Abreu at #4 and a lefty at #3. Assuming Eaton (L) at leadoff, that works out perfectly as Adam Dunn, with Conor at #5, thus sandwiching Abreu with Lefties and use Connor's "high contact and doubles" really well. In this scenario, I like Ramirez at #2 because of his right handed bat, though ideally we'd like a guy that gets on base more. L Eaton R Ramirez L Dunn R Abreu L Gillaspie ? ? ? ? a great post, hard to argue with, however I will go for my piece of mind. Ramirez and Gillaspie switch. Ramirez is and may be the better hitter with power being the value point. with that, that is my only point. I can argue with the right left and your opinion.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) That IMO Sale should have been a starter that season, preferably in the minors if the big league staff had no role for him. By having him in the bullpen, we used up a year of his pre-arb eligibility and failed to work on building up endurance/innings in his arm. both of these were bad things for his long-term position with the Sox. He didn't continue building on the 150 innings/season he got in college, which likely was reflected in his exhaustion and extra rest the next year during an actual playoff hunt, and we also lost a year of him being cheap. Those were the downsides. The upside was supposed to be that we made the playoffs in 2011. We did not. There are multiple failures on that team, so it's not just Rios, but he had one of the worst seasons in MLB history, so at the very least he was a key part of it. The 2011 White Sox was the team doing an all-in bet at a casino. We risked 5 years of the franchise's health on winning that year. After losing that year, we have spent the 3+ years afterwards with a weakened roster still recovering from its failures. Chris Sale was only one small part of the things we put on the table that year. it was a gamble and it failed. now we, the fans are paying for that gamble. all things being fair, with out that, Hahn may never have been the gm, the process of getting fa's esp Jose A, may never have happen. the great draft picking may never have happen. having another world series ring would have been great, but the sox futures look great. I am using the past as what not to do now and / or the future.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:00 PM) Without TJ surgery, I would imagine he would be a White Sox property. same here and I would venture to say, if Jeff was indeed pick and sign, that other player would have been signed as well.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) I think maybe Bickford, honestly. Interesting ..... I really have to read up on him. btw thanks for some new names.
  22. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) I think we will see Semien getting a lot of looks at #2 in September. If he gets on base at the rate he did in Tripe A, he will be an ideal fit. I'd like to see Eaton Semien Abreu Gillaspie Garcia Dunn Ramirez Flowers Sanchez I still think Avi should be switch with Aelxia place. why throw him to the heat right away.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 02:23 PM) Gillaspie has the 3rd best OPB and 2nd best SLG on the team. There is no excuse for him batting lower than 4th, at least not against a righty starter. I don't care if that means batting Abreu 4th, batting Gillaspie 4th, or batting two lefties consecutively, but there has to be some way to bat him up higher in the order. Oh, and Alexei should never bat 2nd. His slash line screams out #6 hitter. I am with Balta on his assessment. Conor does not have power and he can work the count, hence the perfect #2 hitter. Alexia should be a 4 or 5 hitter. question for you stat guys, does his "slash line" say so. if slash line is the right stat to use.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) The 5th overall pick in the draft would be nice. Sox would be guaranteed 1 of Bickford, Aiken, Matuella, Cameron, or Kirby. There are some other good HS players too. sat is going to hurt. I want Bassitt to win so much. but DAMN it.
