QUOTE (flavum @ May 4, 2014 -> 12:48 AM) Sox were 8-5 in the division. Now...8-10. That Verlander game was the worst. And this one. And yesterday's. taking all things into consideration, the game, even thou we lost wasn't bad. the pitching did an decent job. except for no offense I do see something good, with ref to the pitching. just my take.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2014 -> 05:28 PM) One is a 3B. http://www.amazinavenue.com/2013/10/27/485...14-suk-min-yoon Here's the pitcher, Suk Min Yoon, with Boras of course representing him. well getting player other than drafting and trading is what I am looking at. after reading the above article. but it also says that they would not be available till next yr. I think as someone said Korea may be an untapped area for prospects.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 3, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Power play and Corey Crawford. With some KANERRRRRR sprinkled on top Crawford in coming into his own, pretty much like he was pre-injury.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) The best two current talents are outfielders, Cepeda (in Japan now, and 34 already) and Despaigne, who may or may not, depending on what you read, be going back to Mexico again to play in their professional league but not available to sign from all current conjecture. With the disasters that are Concepcion (Cubs LHP) and then Miguel Gonzalez' contract getting partially avoided with the Phillies, the more likely sources for pitching are Korea and Japan at the moment. isn't there talks of a young south Korean player, I believe a pitcher, who might be a FA......

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2014 -> 12:40 PM) Nobody knew Abreu would be this good, this soon. Or Flowers/Ramirez/Viciedo/Dunn (so far/this early). That said, we've lost Garcia and Eaton's having a heckuva time staying healthy with his all-out/Rowand-esque style of play. kind of reminds me of he go-go sox. that is why, I fell into the trap by even say if one of the speedy prospects we have, how would they play out in the outfield. which I still like that idea.

There is always going to be bumps in the road ..... either way this club is exciting again. lets see what comes in July.... too bad cubano can't find out for us, if there is anymore news of other players defecting esp pitchers.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2014 -> 12:25 PM) Jimenez's contract, for example, would be another albatross to go with John Danks at this point. Santana's deal wouldn't provided us a huge competitive advantage because teams want control for at least 1 1/2 seasons now if they make mid-season trades. And there's no way he would be pitching as well as he has with the Braves for us in the American League anyway. furthermore, when Jimenez and Santana signed, who would've thought the sox would generate this much excitement this early.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) NC State's Rodon is of Cuban-descent as well...could end up as a determining factor in that draft pick. I read what you wrote on future sox board, nice. but Rodon didn't escape Cuba, the way that some of these Cuban players have.

Man if the Hawks keep winning, they will ruin the ability to draft #23.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 2, 2014 -> 08:52 PM) That's right Paulino was a free-agent. Funny aside, I don't see how a bad contract hurts a team more than having an awful farm system. depends on the value and length of the contract.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:07 PM) If he's traded for at the deadline, the acquiring team would only be on the hook for $4 million ish this season. They'd be picking him up for next year yes but that would be impacting next year's budget, not this year's. I have resisted really on why and how I really don't want to see sox trade Alexia, I hate saying this but for me it is a factor. Loyalty to the player a Cuban player. hey everyone knows that sometime you need to swallow the poison pill by trading players in order to get better, but how will that play out with other Cuban player now on the roster or any more future dealings with them or new players coming over. those our my thoughts, valid or not, good or bad. peace

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:03 PM) Seriously, the Cubs entire draft pool is about $8 million this year. Their entire draft pool is close to the slot value of the #1 pick. If the Cubs draft him and have to pay him that amount and he only gets that far because the White Sox won't, they may as well forfeit the rest of the draft. with ref to boras, yes he tries to max out the money for his clients, but doesn't mean that the sox org nor the fans have to like how he does things. for us, the Monday morning QB so to speak, who enjoys talking baseball will venture to say, why deal with him, esp if we might not sign him. the idea of letting a really good or better player go, b/c of certain circumstances is not the right way to get this ship, the sox farm, with quality players.

QUOTE (CyAcosta41 @ May 2, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) Can't wait for this draft already!!! wow.... what a great post and smart ............ are you a lawyer?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 2, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) I expect it to continue to improve with a strong draft. This is the highest we've picked in a long time, and we are committed to spending competitively like never before. but the subtraction of players now in the majors will indeed drop the rank. yeah we will improve via the draft. not enuf in the short term.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) It isnt dying, it has merely been changed to green I like reddish b/c of my bad eyesight.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) We know for sure they are stockpiling injured guys, big arms and no control, unsigned free agents, Hanson, Noesi, Cleto , Frank Francisco anyone with a pulse and potential . Hoping for that needle in the haystack guy they always seem to come up with. Get them on the cheap and turn them into gold. in addition, we may get lucky and do find that golden needle.

I wonder what the ranking is going to look like now

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) Until his good start this year, he didn't even have enough bat to rank. A full good year should, I imagine, get him on the radar for next year for sure. many thanks. I would love to know more about him.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) Completely disagree. If Rodon costs you #1 pick money at #3, you almost literally cannot do it. and that was Boras strategy, if player A falls b/c of contract concerns ...... he still would be asking for the same money even if player A kept on falling. with the new draft and slot money I still wonder if agents will try to find a way around it.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Some was that, some was contract demands, and some was the belief that he'd only make it as a reliever at the next level. which I think is in play here, but hey what do I know.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) He came over in the Peavy/Garcia deal. The kid is supposed to be one of the best gloves in all of baseball, with no bat at all. The hope is for him to do some hitting, and if that is the case he might fast track himself to Chicago. Thanks
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:34 PM) I think it's because things can still change. The reason guys fly up draft boards is because every team is checking on them and sometimes they decide they like a guy better than they did pre-season. the names mention yesterday took many people, including sports writers for a surprise.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 2, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Last year, a lot of posters wanted the Sox to tank to get the #1 pick. That pick at the time was Rondon. If somehow an uninjured Rondon is available at #3 and the Sox draft someone else so they have a few extra dollars to sign someone not so highly thought of, to me would be the biggest waste of draft position. Do you pass on Chris Sale so you can get Gavin Floyd and Jared Mitchell? If I remember correctly sale was passed by teams b/c of fear of injury risk to his throwing arm..... we got lucky and did a roll of the dice. however I do not see the sox org explaining why he did not someone. unless of course if its the company line of We believe this player has more upside.
