TOP 40 FAVORITE TV COMEDIES
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) Great analogy. Most comedies on TV are very analogous to fast food. I think Fraser and possibly shows like M*A*S*H are similar to movies like The Graduate. Not quit dramas, but not quite common denominator comedy either. Fair point. I'm not saying Frasier wasn't a good show, I just didn't think it was super funny. My top 3 were all laugh out loud at least once each episode kind of funny.

Don Imus doesn't get it
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 08:44 AM) Imus can say whatever he wants... but there is nothing in the Constitution that protects him from the backlash. The problem is that the "backlash" just gives him more and more free press. If we would just ignore these types of bigots and idiots, well, they'd be more likely to go away. Instead we give them a career boost.

TOP 40 FAVORITE TV COMEDIES
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) 37 Emmys for Comedy Series just doesn't buy you any respect anymore. 37 Emmys can hardly buy you a cheeseburger from Burger King.

Don Imus doesn't get it
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) Why should he "get it"? Imus got rich doing this, and got his job back after saying crap like this. What lesson has he really learned? That he can stay crap like that without any repercussions?

TOP 40 FAVORITE TV COMEDIES
QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 07:45 AM) I'm kinda surprised Fraser was so low. I also see a trend for current, which always happens with these. Frasier wasn't funny. That's probably why it's so low.

Any Northwestern Students or Alum?
Northwestern. Blah. Go to University of Chicago. And a quick note: With schools like Northwestern and Chicago you are paying for name recognition--not necessarily a better education. I honestly would say that the education I got at a smaller school (with less name recognition) was just as good as the bigger names that I had on my list (if not better because of crazy small classes and no grad TAs). We have a joke in my graduate program (or some of us do)--there are some students here that did their undergrad at Yale, Cornell, Northwestern and UCLA and they talk about it CONSTANTLY. Those of us who paid half of what they did for college and got into the same program can't help but snicker a little. . .

Jane Doe rape kits are going national
Just because you had a rape kit done (even well before now) doesn't mean that charges would be filed or pressed. Or even reported to the police (unless we're talking about a minor or incapacitated adult). I'm not sure this is anything new at all. And I doubt this will do anything to increase reporting rates.

No More Pot....Candy
QUOTE (jackie hayes @ May 7, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Absolutely. And school cafeterias should start serving non-alcoholic beer, too, dammit! That said, the Flintstones chewable pot-flavored vitamins still have to go. (Just messing with you, Soxy... ) It's an odd suggestion, and wouldn't ever cover the peer pressure and other "human" elements--but from a pure Skinnerian standpoint it should work.

No More Pot....Candy
Actually, this candy might be a good way to make kids NOT smoke pot. If they come to associate the taste of pot with no reinforcement (no high), it may be more difficult for the subsequent taste of pot to be appetitively conditioned if paired with a high.

All Things Pro-Hillary
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) LOL, that's funny coming from Clinton, who is far less electable against the GOP than Obama is. They are seriously grasping at straws now. I actually disagree--I think they have all the dirt on Clinton they will get. But who knows what they will find with Obama. And, this is pure speculation from me, but I think his wife might be a campaign liability.
