QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 27, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Interview #1 of 2 today just completed. Pray for me folks! Good Luck Sqwert! Remember, the job is yours!
-
Holy crap! Are you serious? We won a game in which we were leading 1-0 in the 8th vs the Yanks!? Impressive guys. Props to Humber, he pitched one hell of a game.
-
Yeah sure, why not, it stops here.
-
Is anyone worried that the 8th seed Pacers are really pushing the Bulls to the limit and are in real trouble versus better teams than the Pacers?
-
Wow, finally. Do those guys remember how to congratulate each other on the mound? Will they straighten out with the monkey off their back?
-
Lol, I did not expect to see this thread! Thanks guys!
-
Thanks for the heads up guys. The call went well, but I'm not a big fan of the job after he explained it to me. I didn't shut the door on interviewing, but from what he told me it's not really what I'm looking for.
-
This bullpen is really performing awful. I wonder how many games we've lost due to our bullpen versus everyone else in the league.

An employer emailed me requesting to schedule a time for a "short phone meeting" before a personal interview, as he put it. What kind of advice can you guys give me, what should I expect?

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 10, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) Jersey Mike's and Dagwood's are pretty good. I haven't tried Penn Station yet, though. Good, but overpriced. You're spending about 10+ on a meal there.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 10, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Jimmy Johns. There I said it. I second that. That crap is bland.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) In other words, no longer "open", but more or less "closed" like Apple. Honestly, this is a good move for them. I'm not a big believer in this "open" crap anyway, not for huge undertakings like a phone operating system. Unfortunately, reality dictates that people need to get paid to live, and open source doesn't pay well. Opening the source code so people can see it is one thing, but having no requirements on it's use is another. Webkit is opensource, created by Apple, it's what Safari and Chrome are based on, although forks of the original code base. For smaller projects, there are some really good open source programs out there, but for bigger programs, think Photoshop, no open source project will touch it, and many try (Gimp, Acorn, etc). I think this is a good change. Android was well on it's way to becoming the ghetto OS for phone makers, tweaks, skins, altercations...the experience was never quite the same from device to device, and that was leading to a lesser experience. While Android may be more closed (or controlled) by Google, it will still be more open than iOS. Apple controls every little aspect of their products, which has its advantages, while Google will become more restrictive with Android.

Pena is just horrid right now. He brings back bad memories of Rick White, Mike Jackson, and Randy Williams bad... maybe even Todd Ritchie... -
What do you guys think about an employer asking for your salary for your current/previous job when applying? For example, there's an employer who asks to fill out a page full of information just to apply, such as salary info, 3 references, permission to contact current employer or your direct manager, etc. For one, I don't like the fact that I'm showing them my cards with my current salary and I also don't like the fact that they want permission to contact my job. It's different if they made me an offer and asked these questions. I don't want my job knowing I'm leaving until they absolutely need to know, then again I don't want it to seem like I'm hiding something because I'm not.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 05:22 PM) Just wanted to say I received an offer today from my #1 choice, and I'll be accepting it tomorrow. Thanks for all the help, everyone, that I've ever received in this thread. That's great to hear! I'm sure you're excited, with it being your first choice. Congrats!

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) It's fun when you get to root for Mariano Rivera. He is really exciting to watch. It's hard not to enjoy seeing that guy do his job, even if he is on the Yanks. When I went to NY I really wanted to see MO in action in person, but I knew if he was in, it was a sox L. -

Jermaine Dye to officially retire.

Thanks for the great contributions JD. Even though your time with the sox was fairly short, you will be remembered forever. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Get a brat. What else do you need? Yes! I hear you!

QUOTE (SnB @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) no way, the goal is to have a job lined up before graduation. I had my offer in the first semester of my senior year. That's definitely my plan. I've been stepping up my efforts lately, hopefully it pays off. I've been applying mostly out of state (Los Angeles area).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) Brandon McCarthy named the A's #4 starter. Interesting, I didn't even know he was healthy and competing.
-
Is it too early to apply for jobs now if I graduate in may? Will companies even read past that part on my resume or cover letter? I'm not getting as much interest as I thought i'd get... Not trying to sound cocky.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) Some of you guys are trying WAYYYYYYY TOOOOOO hard to convince Sox nation that Peavy is just fine and everything is whip cream with fat cherries on the top. How about we just wait until Peavy is pitching in a game that counts and not post every Twitter message that comes about every 5.6 seconds? There's nothing wrong with people posting updates on Jake's status. Get off your high horse. We all want him to get healthy and get back on the mound to help our team win.

Jobs ...and no not Steve Jobs so don't even try it!

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 21, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) I like JP, his enthusiasm, his determination, his tenacity on the mound, but frankly this guy is a mess. Someone said it best a while ago around here when they said JFP = Just f***ing Pitch. In my opinion though, I never expected Jake to be ready by the beginning of the season. Not that I was being pessimistic, but the guy didn't throw a ball, for what, over 6 months? Can't just jump straight into it.
