  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 02:12 AM) For your resume you may want to highlight more technical experience that you may have, or project experience, etc. If you are going for a consulting position you may want to include a section based on that, such as case competitions etc. Good to hear, this is actually the way my resume is set up as of now. I actually started working in the field in high school and through college (started with real basic duties and worked my way up) so that's where all my job history is at. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 09:25 AM) Personally, I have a "basic" cover letter that I make alterations based on the specifics of the job. For example: My basic IT cover letter talks about my experience with various systems and software as well as some of the duties I perform at my current job. When I applied for a job that included an audio/visual component of the job, I made sure I highlighted my experience with similar software that they said I would be using (audio and video editing software). Alright, thanks for the info. I have yet to create a cover letter so I'm sure it won't hurt to make one. Especially since I see many employers with a cover letter submission in addition to the resume submission. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) The age old IT conundrum...the problem with the IT industry is experience trumps education...always has, and this is a problem. You will often see IT jobs go to people without degrees, simply because they knew the right person to give the hands on experience. I've never used a cover letter, but I can see why some companies may feel they set people aside that take the time to bother tailoring them. Starting in IT, I always recommend going through a recruiter that has an inside track on the jobs in question. The last few jobs I got in the IT industry were through recruiters who often get you interviews without the need of cover letters. Many companies, such as mine, used recruiters to fill positions, and often went with who recruiters sent their way vs people sending blind resumes for their public job postings. You know the problem I'm seeing looking for jobs at the moment? Basically all of the positions available are way above an entry level and even beyond new grads with years of experience like me. I see so many positions for "Senior x" and "Architect x" yet almost none for lower positions. Heck even those mid-level positions have so many "requirements" that just make me wonder how someone can be established in everything they're looking for. I do my best and apply for positions that I most closely meet the requirements for. Rarely do I see any that I satisfy all of the requirements for, and those are usually positions that I don't necessarily want. How do you get in contact with these recruiters? I assume these are recruiters that work for employers searching for candidates to fill empty positions.
  2. So I have started looking for a job as I'm graduating with a BS in the IT field in May. I've been following this thread for the last few pages now. There's some good info here, thanks guys. With that said I've got a few questions. I've heard it is important to tailor a cover letter specific to the company/position one is applying for. How much customizing are we talking here? "Insert Company Name Here" or rewrite a new cover letter per job? I've also heard the same for a resume, however seeing as how I'm a new graduate with a variety of experience in the IT field, how much customizing is needed for my resume?
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 06:39 PM) I don't know if anyone just watched Milledge's last AB, but he's really an ass. 13-run lead, and he's pissed about a call. Strikes out, and tosses his equipment. He really is an immature player. He's not good enough to act like that. Just my 2 cents. I know he has had character issues in the past, but give him a break. It sure as hell isn't nice to watch a player take a called third strike and just walk back to the dugout shaking his head everytime... Nick "Caught Looking" Swisher.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 05:53 PM) quality>quantity Couldn't agree more seeing as how I'm one picky f***er. You know what's annoying? The people who do go for the gross ones and criticize you for not doing the same.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 07:24 AM) Humber was waived twice this past offseason. Chances are he sucks. Maybe if the Sox have to use him he can be magical a start or two, or maybe he can develop into a long man. Expectations from a White Sox point of view, are pretty low. I'm kinda surprised people around here are high on him/very hopeful he will develop into something good. It should be a pleasant surprise if he were to develop into anything serviceable at the major league level.
  6. Honest question, is there any other team in baseball that has a publicly bad separation from one of its players as often as the sox? It seems like every season there's one with us.
  7. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 25, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) More from the man child: I am not surprised at all. We all have expressed our dissatisfaction with the mouthing off in the organization. For as much Guillen and Co. take the focus off the team at times they put it right back on in different ways. You just hope that Jenks is exaggerating a bit to try to get back at them and not everyone is fed up with it, obviously PK isn't (I hope).
  8. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 11:32 PM) They seem to be making Red Sox shirts smaller even than last years White Sox'. Hmm, not sure if you're being sarcastic. If not, are you sure it's the shirts that got smaller? Btw, I'm rooting for Jenks!
  9. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) pay it and call it a day. Consider it a donation to the local township. Oh, and go invest in a radar detector. Radar detectors aren't guaranteed to detect a cop and besides there are a lot false positives which makes you tune it out sometimes. It's also basically useless against laser detectors because the radar only detects the laser a split second before the laser captures your speed. I agree though, pay the ticket and take the traffic school course to erase it from your record.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) I got off from 2 laser tickets because it was deemed inaccurate. How'd you do that?
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) I guarantee you don't have this one......got it from the Dublin Black Sox team in Ireland! The guy on the first row, second to the right looks like the widge to me... I don't know if I'm the only one lol.
  12. QUOTE (SnB @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) I just discovered listentoyoutube.com Holy crap, has this been around awhile? It was so seamless to rip an mp3. Wow, cool. Thanks, I didn't know about it either.
  13. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110221/ap_on_...es_steinbrenner That's Hank btw. I read this just a little while ago and then stumbled on this thread. I wonder what Hank has to say about this.
  14. Congratulations, good luck to the both of you!
  15. This would not be the best idea. We've already seen Buehrle lose it in the 2nd half more than once before and we've seen what it does to the rest of the starters during our 5th starter roulette wheel in the early 2000's. I would only do this if all of our possible 5th starters really suck it up in ST.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) I do. Now if I had an iphone I'd probalby use the feature where you could make your calls via google talk through the 3g network and just get free minutes that way. A friend of mine got 2 phones on Verizon and had the second phone use Google Talk exclusively and he ended up getting charged for every minute from his anytime minutes. Has anyone heard of this?? Since Google Talk is supposed to be VoIP...
  17. As others have said, JD isn't playing because of JD. He has a lot of pride. First he wasn't willing to DH then he was willing to switch to 1B then he was willing to DH a little and play the field. Finally, his options started dwindling last year and he wouldn't accept a bench role. Not playing last year really hurt his value because now, teams aren't even offering a guaranteed bench spot.
  18. Can't wait for the new Lupe Fiasco, hopefully J Cole drops his new album in 11, Shinedown hasn't released an album in a while.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) Say what you want about Boras. But the dude is the Carlos Gonzalez of agents. Wow, you really have a big man crush on that guy don't you?
  20. Forgot to mention that I saw True Grit. Pretty f***ing good...
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) According to the Sun Times Joaquin Benoit = Matt Garza. In other news, Mike Tomlin will replace Omar Epps on House during bye weeks and the off-season. I'm not the only one who thinks he looks like Omar Epps!!!!
  22. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) Seems to me like we have our team now (pending the Ohman physical). What other rumors out there seem realistic? Do we still think CQ gets moved? This may very well be it. KW has said he's not trading anyone from the major league roster (referring specifically to CQ) without getting something in return that would vastly improve the squad. I could see him trading some young guys (Flowers, Viciedo), but I kinda doubt it. Those deals are usually centered around major league players or guys close to the majors and with our squad basically set, it's unlikely.
  23. If this were to happen somewhere else, like the common job and not professional sports, Oney would probably get his ass kicked for getting personal like this.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) I think Ozzie needs to muzzle the kid. The White Sox cannot continue to have someone with this much personal information about the players spewing it uncontrollably via Twitter. Eventually, it's going to have a major negative affect on the White Sox, including having players refusing to play for Ozzie Guillen because his son can't keep his mouth shut and respect their privacy. I agree. Not only is bobby's comment going to draw a big story/spat, but I think Oney is going to get heat again. This isn't good for the whole ozzie and kenny relationship.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Just like when Swisher, Thomas, and others left, I'm sure KW is going to have to bite his tongue about what he really wants to say. Lol, I guess you mean at first when Thomas left because Kenny said his share of things.
