  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) I think KW was a little hoodwinked on that one. He was looking to trade for Rios before the deadline, and they were discussing prospects and money eating. I think he was a little taken aback they just let him go, but ultimately, I think you're correct. He wanted him, and the money really wasn't a big problem. Yeah, I remember Kenny saying he was surprised, mostly because he didn't exactly want to take on the entire contract, but ended up taking it on entirely and it didn't put them in a bad position. That was my interpretation.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) they need to bounce around because the UFC has grown stale here. It is pretty pathetic when their biggest star is Rousey and all she fights is stiffs. The UFC got killed when Lesnar,GSP and Silva all went out within a short time of each other and then the Jon Jones mess. Havent been able to recover or build new stars. Would love to see Aldo crush McGregor so that train gets wrecked. MMA has proved many times that a one dimensional fighter will eventually get what's coming. If Aldo doesn't beat McGregor, Edgar will.
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) comical that the UFC tried to sell the fans that a blue belt with zero power belonged in the same arena as Ronda. And Rogan creaming himself as if Rousey just accomplished something amazing would have been funny if he wasnt so over the top. Atleast he's good at following his marching orders. I don't know how no one else picked up on that from Hawk, I mean Rogan. It was pretty ridiculous.
  4. Not a great main card. UFC is going from one country to another trying to pick up new fans. Doing a great job at it, but it's cards are definitely watered down now. Ronda once again proving there's no one near her level. She's raking it in...
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:41 AM) The QQQ's or SP500 fund (either one, not both, they are the same thing, just in different forms) give you the diversity of all 500 stocks of the SP 500. On a limited budget, it is the best diversification money can buy. It is also simple to track, and it is the lowest fees you will see on any fund, if you go that route. If your budget allows, you can add other stocks or funds from there. For my two cents, I think energy is ridiculously cheap, and I can't see it staying here long term. Thanks, I'm going to look into these. I definitely want to get in to energy.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) I also should add that I hope you opened an IRA. I opened a roth. I'll be opening just a standard brokerage account in a few months and move money from my savings to earn more interest. I'm 28 so I can accept some risk for my IRA, but I don't want to start my brokerage account with a lot of risk until I have a good grasp on things. For the most part I'm looking at passive investing. I don't have the time to focus on day to day buying and selling with work and all.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:05 PM) Find an SP500 fund if you want instant diversification. If you want to go straight into stocks, buy QQQ. Start there. One fund and one stock for diversification? That easy???
  8. I thought there was a finance thread somewhere, anyway... I've just opened my first brokerage account. I'm doing a lot of reading and taking down notes on how I should start investing. Probably the most common advice is to diversify the portfolio. I've seen formulas with percentages for balancing between equities and fixed income to have a diversified portfolio depending on how aggressive one wants to be. I've also found questionnaires once answered that recommend the percentages of the equities to purchase. What do you veteran investors think of my approach so far? Am I going down the right path?
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 27, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) We went from dead in the water to "should we be buyers?" in the matter of one series. Whose we? Sellers all the way!!
  10. Frank Thomas said Pedro and big unit were the toughest pitcher's he's ever faced. This wasn't vs Pedro, but one of my favorite at bats was vs the twins and eddie guardado in extra innings. It was another long at bat and Frank Thomas hit a long shot that just went foul down left field. Very next pitch, Frank hits a walk off homer down left field.
  11. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) You almost have to trade Quintana. With a historically terrible offense and defense, we have to be willing to deal someone who's capable of providing us with a package that inproves the team. Not just in 2016, but beyond. If not from Quintana, how does this team improve with dealing Shark for a b rated prospect? We're sure as hell not going to replace six full-time position players off FA/waiver deals, i'll tell you that much. We need help. What you're saying about dealing Quintana to fill multiple holes is the point I'm trying to make. Will teams actually deal proven a MLB player plus top prospects? Q has such a great contract and great numbers, teams may not be willing to make a deal. And I sure as heck don't want to lower our asking price as a result.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) It doesnt tie you to anything, the Sox can still take the pick Samardzija and deal Quintana. Is any team realistically willing to give up what Q would bring back in a trade though? I mean you don't trade him for anything except a huge haul.
  13. So 50 Cent filed for bankruptcy... didn't he make a couple hundred million on Vitamin Water??
  14. Every quote I read from Yost just screams that he wants to put Sale at a disadvantage this weekend. Everything from the world wants to see him pitch to talking Ventura into letting him pitch. Both bulls*** and Robin is an idiot especially considering he let him go another inning the other day when he had just come off a CG.
  15. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jul 2, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) Haha should have kept the team together. AJ > Flowers Buehrle > Danks We have a good bullpen, but I wouldn't hate having Cotts. And I'll take Uribe over Ramirez, although this very debatable. Let's not forget about the money Miami paid Buehrle at the time.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 30, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) Wow, Saad is being dealt to Columbus. Any idea on the change of direction anyone? I'm assuming they're going in a different direction since they couldn't unload players during the draft. Saad sure seemed to be another member of the core so young and getting better and better...
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Say what you want about my idol, Ozzie. Can you imagine if his team was playing like this?? He'd be all over these guys in the press and in their faces in the dugout. Talk about entertainment! He'd take them to task. Hahahaha this has to be a joke. Maybe he forgot the green text.
  18. The consensus is that Sharp and Bickell are gone. Is there a market for Bickell though and what kind of return? Saad looks like is a for sure bet to be resigned. What about Oduya, Vermette, and Richards? Who else am I missing that may be gone?
  19. Honestly who is to blame at this point? Everyone says baseball managers effect the result of a game the least in the major sports. Everyone was happy here with the moves Hahn had made the past few off seasons. So what the Hell is the problem? Is it the fact that we're getting bad luck because a few guys are having bad years to an already weak offense? Is it the poor defense? Base running? Where do you start fixing at this point?
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) There's rumors of a FF7 HD Remake on PS4. It wouldn't be the first time, but the source (Siliconera) is fairly reputable. Fingers crossed. I am not a gamer anymore, but just hearing about it makes me think about buying it when it comes out.
  21. Dynasty! And to think we were 1 goal away from making it to the finals last year!
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Cooper is super concerned with injury reports and he fakes this s*** all the time. No way that guy plays with that injury. If he does, he shouldnt be very effective. Like When he said Bishop was slow to get up because he's 6'7? Haha
