  1. From the "Youngsters bring new energy" article. Taking a breather: Konerko was out of the lineup on Sunday for the second time in three days. The White Sox first baseman had played in 101 of the South Sider's 104 games before his off-day on Sunday. Konerko asked Guillen for a few days off before Friday's game. The White Sox skipper held Konerko out of the lineup on Friday, but put him back in the starting nine on Saturday to face Roy Halladay. "Most managers like to give their big boys the day off when the big guy is pitching [for the opposition]" Guillen said on Saturday. "I'm the opposite. The big guys should be hitting against the stars; let them compete against each other." The off-day on Sunday will allow Konerko to rest for two consecutive days, with Monday an off-day for the White Sox. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws
  2. We're getting our butts handed to us. This web site has made AJ and Pods all stars. Lets go guys!
  3. Floyd's picture is up there with the worse of all time. Cantu, Astacio, etc. AJ's last year was pretty bad with the mullet sticking out.
  4. "Lee had two Minor League option years remaining. But because he was on a multiyear contract (the Indians gave him a three-year, $14 million extension last summer), he had to pass through waivers unclaimed before the Indians could send him down." http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=mlb A little surprising he passed through wavers even though he is a little expensive to be in AAA.
  5. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) No problem with Javy going IF Jon is extended. But I don't see that happening. That's why I don't see anyone going, but Contreras... If possible... and it won't be to a club competing this year. Unless the Mets really think they can help with Duque there. Not many trades are going on this year.
  6. What went wrong with this girl? Did she get dropped when she was a baby? The things she does these days, my goodness...
  7. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) Best Day = Buehrle's No-hitter 2nd Best Day = Molina's first hit Lol Yes! You gotta love Stavo shooting the gun with his hand after the hit. Exciting win definitely. I love when Jenks goes crazy!
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) is it really? Think about all the former Sox players that are brought into the front office/coaching staff or just public relations in general. I think its actually the opposite and the org does a very good job making sure very few people leave with sour grapes. I see your point and I agree, but I am not putting the blame on the organization entirely. It's always someone new every year though with the sox. Frank, Widger, Shaffer. Of course I am not saying the people leaving are saints like Maggs with his shady situation, but when people leave without pointing the finger, there's always something to be said.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) Oh good grief.... Depending on who you talk to... Brandon got a bit too big for his britches and that was a huge factor in him being shown the door. I see.
  10. KW's mouth has definitely made me mad over the years and it isn't like he's dealing with a lot of guys like Sheffy. You look around the league and there are always situations where people have left organizations with sour grapes, but it's like that's a routine with the sox. There is a reason why KW and Ozzie like each other so much, they both can't keep their mouthes shut and don't learn from their stubbornness.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) I forgot the "t". I have never, ever, heard a peep about Joe being anything but loved by his peers and his bosses. No, I was asking about McCarthy since you said he wasn't a smart ass out of the gate.
  12. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) I still think that Josh is a significant drop-off defensively from Crede. But I completely agree with your second point. +1 I hope that they don't offer arbitration to Joe next year. I hate to say that, but the Sox need to move on. He is, now Fields isn't a butcher, but Crede gets to everything at the corner. Just shows how good Crede is. I miss his GG defense.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) Wha...???? Now listen... I agree he should have researched having the surgery more than he did.. but to call him an attitude problem because he chose to not risk possibly ending his career is ridiculous. Crede has one of the BEST attitudes on this club. As for Josh.. give him time. Brandon wasn't a smart ass punk right out of the gate either. "Wasn't" as in he became one later?
  14. This is where Contreras puts it all together and rebuilds his trade value! Not only that, I hope Beckett is out by the 4th.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 14, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) Dont fool yourselves guys, DLS and Eggy are prime trade pieces in KW's mind. I would have agreed with this before this past offseason.
  16. Thanks to everyone who has put work in the site!! I really appreciate it and enjoy being a member. Thanks for everything!! Oh, and the buttons and skins and everything looks GREAT! Thanks again everyone!
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 11:49 PM) Kenny saying "buyer's mode" is different than a GM like Omar Minaya saying the Mets are in "buyers mode". I'm taking this to mean that if (or, more appropriatey, when) Kenny trades Dye, Iguchi and/or Contreras, he's looking for young players who can step in and play within the next year. I think he feels that he's built up a strong enough rotation to where the Sox won't have to go through a total "rebuilding" mode, so he wants guys like Richar who, at the very least, will be competing for a spot in 2008. I don't take this to mean the Sox will be offering Gio Gonzalez and Ryan Sweeney for Ken Griffey in an effort to save 2007. This wouldn't be a bad scenario. Don't give up too much, but at the same time try making some deals you would in the offseason now to see if they would work for the future.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) A team would have to overpay for either Garland or Vazquez for us to deal them in my mind. We're dealing in a position of strength now. Deal the weakest starter (Contreras), and allow Floyd to settle in as the 5th starter. If Floyd can't get the job done, you move onto Gio Gonzalez. This team can easily contend next season, IF, they get more OBP and speed in the lineup (Ichiro), and fix the bullpen. We're set rotation wise. I just really feel like hanging onto Javy when he's really come on in strides this season. This time last season, people were really criticising him and KW for the Chris Young trade. I doubt Javy is going anywhere anytime soon. What would be smart is to see in the offseason if we could sign Garland to an extension and if it gets done then deal Javy. A lot of it also depends on Contreras though. If he is no longer with the team by that time you would probably have to get someone to fill his spot since you're already throwing in someone from the farm for Contreras. At this point the smartest decision would be to deal Contreras though. You can't really deal both Javy and Contreras with only one more year of Garland.
  19. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) build what exactly? A middling team that competes or a championship team? Two years removed from a title, are they still a win now franchise? The Sox don't find themselves in this position because they have too much money tied up with a few players, they are in this position because they made some serious errors in evaluating talent. 2005 should've been a revelation for this team - that a stout rotation and decent bullpen can overcome a lot of shortcomings in other areas. What really makes me laugh is that if Buehrle had the same exact career numbers but did it with a 95mph fastball in his arsenal then no one would ever question his status as a number one or "ace." He'd get more than Zito.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) Wanna bet Andy Gonzalez starts warming? God damn... Wheres Pablo when you need him to pitch...wait nevermind it's not the world series.
  21. This season has been such a great display of our farm system.
  22. Should've been out long ago...I don't care if Floyd is starting later. This outing runs up Jon's ERA almost 1 run higher.
  23. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) Man, I remember how excited everyone was when we picked up Hall. Is he still bothered by the injury? Not to mention only playing once a week even though Ozzie plays his bench like platoon all because of AJ's damn mouth.
  24. That is real nice. I am happy to be apart of this site, I was even lurking for about a year before I finally signed up. I learn a lot all the time. It's really great to share our love for the sox and many other things all in one spot. Thanks to all the admins and everyone that makes this site so great! Soxtalk.com....YYYESS!
