7/23 Games
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 05:55 AM) 7 games ago Wilkins with his "sweet swing" was an almost 26 year old hitting .251 with a below .300 OBP in AAA. While this streak he has been on is incredible, he has been pretty mediocre outside of these last 7 games. This. Maybe he can eventually be a decent bench player. But he is barely a prospect. If we are thinking he could be a starter on the White Sox, we have serious problems.

Baseball America White Sox Mid Season Top 10
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) Micah has played a significant % of his time in Charlotte with a bad hamstring. His July is looking damn good. It's also encouraging that he's hitting lefties better than ever before. For all the talk of "hands-of-stone", he has 8 total errors between the two levels while having much more range than Beckham, supposedly. And it isn't just Hawk that likes him, we've heard the word untouchable. I like Semien too, though. I think he can be a solid starter at the ML but I am not convinced he is untouchable. Personally I think Semien's skill-set translate better to the Majors than Micah. Between the two, I'll take Semien who is probably superior in all aspects of the game except speed. The speed is exciting of Micah for sure but I think there is still a lot left to be desired.

Baseball America White Sox Mid Season Top 10
I think they are too high on Micah Johnson. He looks like a solid player, but if you look at his overall line this year, it is not that great. .312 BA, .369 OBP, .417 SLG, .787 OPS and 18 SBs to 11 CSs. Even though Semien is not eligible, I have no hesitation thinking he will be the better pro.

Brady Aiken DID NOT SIGN
Bad for both sides here. Astros tried to game the system and lowball him. Aiken might be missing out millions of dollars (assuming he does not become a free agent). You never know what can happen if you go the JuCo or college route.l

Brady Aiken DID NOT SIGN
Seven minutes until Aiken either signs or does not. Crazy.

Could the Sox sign Aiken?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) Not a chance. No caps or restrictions, there are about a dozen teams that will outbid us. Yep. I am sure the Sox would be willing to offer a good chunk of money, but too many rich teams would outbid us.

Danks for Chance Sisco (minor league catcher) and another prospect or two. But I would love to build a deal around Sisco.

Apartment/Condo/House Thread
I've heard 20-30% is a safe number. I'm moving into an apartment in August with my girlfriend and we are spending 15% of our gross income since we want to save more than spend on apartment where we aren't building equity. Keep in mind that you still have utilities and that should be included in the 20-30% range.

Time to sell high on Gillaspie?
Keep Conor. He is 26 years old and finally starting to come into his own. He is former first-round pick for a reason, it's not like he doesn't have skill. If he were 30 and close to free agency, I would be all for trading him. But he is young, entering his prime and cost-controlled for a few more seasons. He is the exact type of offensive player the Sox need.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) Hinrich is back. God help me. Smh He is great player to have on your bench and to spot start if necessary, but Thibs's loves him way too much. I don't mind the move because he is a good veteran presence and in limited minutes, has use. But if we are seeing him play 20-plus minutes per game, ya...

NBA cap gurus: Assuming we amnesty Boozer, what is the impact of signing Gasol on Mirotic?

2014-2015 NBA thread
Again no one is saying GarPax shouldn't have some role within the Bulls front office, it just should not be as the General Manager. They are terrific scouts, but they cannot get major deals done either for free agents or in trades. They are like salespeople who cannot close the big deal each and every time they are presented with a good lead. Yeah, a lot of times the circumstances are not in your favor, but the best salespeople can work around that, get creative and be persuasive. I am just sick of hearing the "they did everything they could" rationale. In the end, it's not how hard you tried, but what are the results.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 10:31 AM) He's still also a consolation prize, soft, 34, has declining skills and will likely be run into the ground by Thibs. I can see the fans turning on him very quickly. Taj is a better overall player than Gasol. Sure Gasol has more a offensive game because he has a much better shot, but I see no reason why Taj won't score 17 points a game because of decent shooting combined with dunks and offensive rebounds. And there is no doubt that Taj is an elite defender. I just want to see Taj get a shot to start and play 30-plus minutes per game because I think he can be more a really good starter.

Sports Media discussion
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) I didn't know he was doing that. Frequently? Yep, my buddy interned for them in college. He said Boers would come in 2-3 days per week. Also said Bernstein (as you could imagine) was a jackass. Boers was nice. Entire production staff super nice, too.

2014-2015 NBA thread
I just don't see how a 34-year-old breaking down Gasol really helps this team get over the hump. We have Noah/Taj/Mirotic (supposedly). We remain to have little wing scoring and no one who can handle the basketball outside of Rose. If we have to get by LBJ, we will run into the same issue that when he guards Rose, our offense just can't score. I like Gasol as a player, but I just have to question whether this was a bigger need than a couple of wing players.

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine 22s In past discussions w/Bulls, ESPN sources say Lakers have been open to taking back Carlos Boozer's contract depending on assets attached Butler + Snell + this year's first? I would only be willing to do this contingent on getting Melo. Second thought, that might be a tad much.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) Lance Stephenson, please He is the offensive version of Ron Artest. I just think his potential to just ruin a locker room is not worth the money. While he is talented, he still is not a game-changing player where the risk is worth the reward, imo.
