WH and I were talking about this, Weber kind of gets an unfair wrap in all of this. When it came down to it, it wouldn't have made a big difference or mattered who was coaching at Illinois. The difference maker was the coach at Indiana. If Davis wasn't here last year, he probably would have never made a verbal to Illinois. However, Weber ends up taking the fall.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) Why do people call Eric Gordon EJ? He's Eric Jr. named after his father, so it's become sort of a nickname for him.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) At least Jeremy Piven is going to be there. Haha awesome. I know just about anything I say is going to make me look like an asshole, but I'm sorry Illini fans. I know this is a huge blow, and there's nothing enjoyable about it. However, I hope you guys can still pull a solid class, and we've definitely got one solid rivalry on our hands now.

Frank's Team vs. Maggs' Team
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 01:39 PM) I'm not taking a shot at Frank Thomas fans (like myself.) I'm taking a shot at the clueless Thoms haters and their "He isn't clutch" or "can't hit LHP" excuses (how did Frank look against all of those RHP's?) You are not part of that group. Fair enough. Thanks for clearing that up. It appears that in the past there have been times where people implied that if you like Frank, you obviously can't/don't like Thome and vice versa, when that just isn't the case. I don't know how long this debate will last, because it's obviously not dying down, with only one player still playing (at least through the weekend). However, I can't wait until Frank's name can be brought up without Thome's, and Thome's without Frank's.

Frank's Team vs. Maggs' Team
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:30 AM) That Thome, this time, had NOTHING to do with this thread, yet it the Thome/Frank stuff was brought up again. Ah okay, that is ridiculous. For some reason, I just assumed that you laughing, because you thought what he was saying was false. I think just about every Frank fan here won't disagree with what he said. We may be Frank homers to an extent, but we're not on the same level as Hawk. We have common sense.

Frank's Team vs. Maggs' Team
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 01:13 AM) Hey Thome haters! How about your hero choking with the bases loaded and two outs in the 9th? I didn't know that you couldn't like both. I'll always like Frank; he'll always be my favorite player. However, I don't know why being in that club makes me a Thome hater!!!1!1!1!1!

It's just more hearsay, especially since I won't go to IB. However, people on Peegs are saying that Gordon's reconfirming his commitment to Illinois Friday. I don't have any reason to believe he's coming here.

new weeknight start time
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) Last I checked, 11 (7:11) minus 5 (7:05) was 6. But I agree with your sentiment - ESPN could care less. Or, MLB can simply tell the Sox to move it up to 7:05 those specific games. Oh yeah, I forgot about those damn Friday 7:35 starts - I'll be happy to see those go the way of the dodo. 7:05 may have been the reported time, but it was always 7:07.

Torre's Job is Safe
QUOTE(AirScott @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) why is it any more believable this year? so Torre only has one year left on his contract? last year it was two, and everyone was saying Steinbrenner can afford to pay two managers for a couple of years. the only difference with Steinbrenner now and Steinbrenner then is that in the 70's and 80's, he really did fire his managers. now he merely threatens it. maybe Torre will get canned, but I doubt it, given the history. but it'd be unfair to fire him without giving him a chance with a bullpen. Personally, I never believed it in previous years, so much so that I don't even remember this happening in previous years. However, this year, the the thought entered my mind before the series was over. It made it more difficult to believe it wasn't for real this time.

Torre's Job is Safe
QUOTE(AirScott @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) the NY newspapers say Steinbrenner is going to take another day to decide. The NY Post, however, says that Torre's going nowhere. but like I said, this happens every year. Yankees lose, Steinbrenner blows a gasket, papers say Torre's going to go. wasn't Piniella supposed to replace Torre last year? It was never believable until this year though. Title changed for now.
