What do you want out of a fifth starter? I mean jeez you cant have 5 #1's in the rotation. If the guy can consistently keep you in games... he's fine as a 5th starter. On top of that... Grilli has some pretty good stuff to boot, I think he could be a guy who could give you a quality start every so often.

I dunno if Carl Pavano is playing at his new home, but I hope Nick Johnson or Brad Wilkerson is... I would love to have either one of these guys playing 1st for us if we decide to deal paulie. Both are LH, and have nice OBP..... Just a thought.

I agree 100% that Diaz has a MUCH higher cieling than grilli. Infact i'll go as far as to say that Grilli couldn't ever get better than a good solid 5th starter. Whereas im not gonna say that Diaz cant turn into a pretty damn good pitcher in the MLB (here's hoping he learns another pitch to throw at professional hitters) BUT.....BUT! Grilli has atleast earned this shot to show what he's got. He's the only 5th starter this year to be consistent to some degree (usually good for 5 runs in 5 or 6 IP) He hasn't completely let the wheels fall off like Diaz, Munoz, Cotts, and others have this year. Ozzie atleast knows Grilli is going to give him some Innings and keep the team in the game. Earlier you said 5 ER in 5IP is bad for a 5th starter? I would tend to disagree with that... all i want from grilli is to keep us in the game and I think with a potent sox lineup 5 runs is keeping us in the game.

I think thats harsh to say about Grilli.... he faced one of the better hitting line-ups in the league tonight, and if our 5th starter could hold them to 5 over 5... i'd take it anytime. I think that Grilli has some good breaking stuff and a good head on his shoulders... getting his fastball over sometimes seems like too hard of a task but I still think he's a solid pitcher.

I think ozzie should of found a way to incorporate the similarity between Buck and the word f***. it woulda just been icing on the cake for me.

I would try and find a way to keep Sandy in the organization... he's a real good baseball person. Maybe give him a manager's job in the minors if he's up for it.

Just outta curiosity..... when is Borchard gonna be a good player? Because honestly... I think this is his "time" and he has been exposed for the AAAA baller that he appears to be. I love the kid, but I just dont think you can keep saying "he's gonna be good at sometime" because that starts to become a tired excuse for what is now a 25-year-old... .157 hitter whose long swing causes him strikes out at a very alarming rate. Sorry Joe, but I just dont see it. Time to look elsewhere for an answer.

I still think that there is a definite log jam of young starters right now, part of me wants to see Garland as the #5 with Kenny finding a way to add a front end starter to the rotation, but on the other hand, I think that Cotts deserves a chance to pitch in the rotation, because he's never been given a full shot at a spot.

I think this is a good way to look at Garland... I mean I honestly think this is the worst that Jon Garland can pitch with his god given ability. Im not going to go as far as to say that he's going to live up to the Top 1-2 pitcher that he's was pinned with coming up, but I think he's ALOT better than the 5.10 ERA he is currently posting. If he goes into next year as our#5.... he'll be one of the best - if not the best - #5 in the league.

Im not gonna lie... there is something about Serena that really turns me on... maybe growing up on the northside of the city not with alot of african american females around me i have sort of a "forbidden fruit" sydrome when it comes to her.... if i was going to compare her to a fruit it definitely be a apple... cause she has an apple bottom booty like none other (thanks nelly)

Yeah.... glass houses... we cant really talk about choking when it comes to high era younger pitchers cause this team pretty much wrote the book on it. Wilmer Ledezma sticks out in my mind from last year.

This might be a little out of place in this discussion, but I would just like to show my appreciation for you coming on our message board and defending a piece you wrote. It takes alot of guts and shows a great deal of pride in your work to come to a medium like this where some people like to capitalize on the ability to be anonymous and attack at will.
