  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) Harden done for the year Sounds like it might just be a case of being bad, not hurt it will be interesting to see if they offer him arb. He'd be due to get a good amount of money if he accepts it and with his history I just can't see another team giving him that much money... although he's a pitcher with raw talent, so all they'll need is one stupid GM to get the pick for him.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) I swear to god, some of you guys have never played the game of baseball. I don't care what some dweeb from Stanford has calculated. Sure, the new wave of stats have become a great way to further evaluate players and a great way to try to determine who are the best players in the league by factoring in stadiums, etc. However, sometimes all you need is an extra run, not 3 or 4 and while the stats may show that bunting is going to hinder run production, the way it does it is by potentially preventing the big-inning, but sometimes you just need a f***ing run, not a big inning. If the Sox got a few extra runs, we'd have seen there 1 run record swing drastically the other way and that starts with playing good fundamental baseball. There is such a thing as a productive out and the Sox are one of the worse teams I've seen in a long time at doing that. And part of fundamentals is good defense and I think we all know the Sox have sucked awfully at that all season. You find a way to improve the defense and get the club to make more productive outs as opposed to useless outs and we are talking about a 2010 team that should content for a World Series. And I'll call whomever I want a jackass. I'm one of the most behaved posters on this site and when people get too far away from the way the game was meant to be played and start thinking it really is just fantasy baseball, than I'm going to step up and speak up. Note: I'm also the biggest supporter of the hit and run possible and if the Sox get a team of guys that can handle the bat this could turn into a huge benefit. You essentially open up a massive hole every time you do a hit and run and a guy that can handle the bat well can essentially sky-rocket his batting average in that situation. hey, good times. Again, all stat jackasses are painted as one, which is not true of many of us. Stats are meant to be used as a scouting tool and applied in general to a game day-in-day out. Of course there are special/unique situations. I posted before that I thought Ozzie should have tried a freakin' safety squeeze with Q on third an AJ at the plate at one point because the team couldn't get anyone in from 3rd with less than 2 outs. My argument is I don't think it should be the general philosophy of them team considering they play in the AL and 81 games at the Cell. and of course you can call anyone what you want.
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) fixed thanks, I guess he can then! Leaning towards stat jackassary for offensive purposes, let me stress I think the bunt has a huge place in the game, that is in obvious pitching duels or when you're facing an ace pitcher or even as a suprise on a squeeze, but again, in the AL and in the Cell, IMO, the Sox can't focus on it early in the games. All stat jackasses should go to deadspin.com and look at some of the articles from yesterday, the firejoemorgan.com guys were guest editors and it was awesome!
  4. I'm so glad mods can just call a group of posters "jackasses"
  5. so this is for '10, I guess we're just all going to assume Pods is going to replicate his best statistical year since his rookie year and stay healthy for another full year?
  6. QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) Now, this comes from a free site, so take it with a grain of salt: Jim Cornette has reportedly been let go by TNA for "acting unprofessionally" backstage, especially when dealing with Vince Russo: http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/tna/4126.html This line cracked me up, referring to Russo: "Cornette directed his anger toward the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion during a production meeting calling for more focus on Eric Young on television." I'm not sure if it's anywhere on the net, I had it on an old RF tape, but there is a video of Cornette going ape on a girl at a drive thru after a show. There was a van full of wrestlers so the order was huge, when they got to the window the girl said she thought it was a joke so they didn't prepare the food, and Cornette loses it. It's hysterical.
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) If a pitcher gets more upset on a bunt, which may move a runner into scoring position over a guy who just crushed one to the upper deck and definitely scored a run, he needs to get his head examined. Yeah, sounds like some people would rather face the 90's Braves pitchers who were excellent at sacrifice bunting with a runner at 1st then say, Adam Dunn.
  8. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) If I was a pitcher, I'd be more pissed off if the other team was trying to bunt with a guy on base than I would've if I gave up a home run. Because when it comes to bunting, the other team is manipulating the game and forcing me to field my position, but if the other team hit a home run then it's my fault and they wouldn't have hit that home run if I had located my pitches better. Of course you can try and hit a line drive, or a double into the gaps, but when you do that there's always a CHANCE that the ball won't go where you want it to go, such as into the 2nd baseman's mitt for a double-play. I would be far more upset that I gave up a run than a guy attempting to get to first and another guy to 2nd or 3rd and I had another chance to get a pop up, line drive to a fielder, strikeout, etc. to prevent a run from scoring
  9. a focus on fundamentals is OK with me, but to try and manufacture runs in the Cell early in the game could potentially lead to a lot of losses. I have no problem with it later in a close game, but to have a NL approach in the AL in one of the better hitters park in baseball is a bad idea to me.
  10. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) Didnt really care for the UFN card. These UFN's are usually exciting but way too sloppy for my liking. they are lower caliber fighters or younger up and coming prospects, they are not as skilled as the top fighters. I'm not sure how you can find something exciting and not care for it. Takayama/Frye is one of the most ridiculously sloppy fights in the history of MMA, but it's one of the most exciting fights ever. I just like to enjoy the fights and not over think them.
  11. First two fights tonight are great, other 2 were good... another Spike card delivers.
  12. Looking forward to the UFN, TUF and 103. UFN has some potentially quality fights and it seems the guys on UFN know they can make a name for themselves with great performances. Also, 103 looks solid too. Looking forward to see how Belfort looks.
  13. How much is his option? If it's reasonable I hope KW brings him back. With the 4 they have at the top a competition between Hudson, Torres, FG and a wild card or two for the fifth would be GREAT for this team.
  14. A.J. has always thrown OK, but a few of the pitchers on the staff give him zero to no chance. I would imagine if he was on a staff that held runners well he'd have about average to slightly above average numbers. I hope they bring someone in to ST to work with the pitchers on that, when it is bad for the Sox it's horrible
  15. Randy vs. Vera is main eventing 105. It's not a PPV but a U.K. show that will be tape delayed on Spike that night.
  16. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) Hendo vs. Cung could be interesting Hendo vs. Fedor of course Hendo vs. Mousassi Hendo vs. Lawler would be fun Hendo would destroy Jake Shields and pretty much everyone else in that entire organization. Nick Diaz vs. Hendo would be a huge size mismatch in favor of Hendo but the hype leading up would be great. Dan will be back in the UFC I think. He and Dana love each other and I imagine the UFC will want to put Dan in their HOF once his career is over. Plus you can't really let the guy walk after promoting him with TUF and having him almost decapitate your hand-fed face of UK MMA on the biggest show in your company's history. I would really only be interested in Hendo vs. Mousassi on that list. Cung hasn't really proved anything to me outside of stand-up (he and Frank had a gentleman's agreement to keep it standing), love Hendo and Fedor, but no need to see that fight, Lawler would be OK, but Hendo is a step above him IMO. The best fights for him are clearly in the UFC. Anderson again, Marquardt, any of the top 205ers are far more competative match-ups I would want to see and bigger paydays for him.
  17. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) I read this. I agree with the guys at Fightlinker. If it's that big of a deal to him, make sure him and Marquardt get a BIG (well, bigger for them) payday just for this fight so everyone's happy. Or if Anderson decides what he wants to do with his life and it's not defend the 185 belt, then make their fight for an interim belt. I have a feeling that we'll see Hendo and Marquardt first and Hendo's people are smartly using this to their advantage for a big payday on it. Other than Gegard all the fights for him are in the UFC.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) Bossard'll fix it. well if they're not going to do field turf, he does need to be brought in to fix the problem
  19. Looks like Lil' Nog and Cain is for 106 not 105
  20. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) Phineas and Ferb FTW! What a phenomenal show. It is better written for adults than 99% of stuff geared towards adults
  21. Looking forward to The Office, Bones (yes, very lame, but a guilty pleasure), Chopped, and if new Phineas and Ferbs come out. Nitro Circus and Fantasy Factory are already in their new seasons
  22. http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/10566/ Jeff Hardy likes to keep his life interesting.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) I haven't seen Lil Nog fight since his KO loss to Soko. What has he been doing with himself? http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Antonio-Rogerio-Nogueira-2270 5 wins in a row around the world. He's a very solid 205 and a good add.
  24. Absolutely yes. Especially since FIFA approves it. They may be waiting to the olympic decision, even though it can't be the big track stadium, I imagine they would use it for some things and I don't know what the IOC's stance is
  25. looks like Lil' Nog/Cane will be on 105 as well
