  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Keep repeating it, but it doesnt make it true. Getz>Nix. asking this completely neutral because I think it's basically a push, why do you think Getz is better? Defense? Because Nix HR potential makes up for his other flaws at the plate. Is it that it was done mostly against LHPs? That's a legit concern.
  2. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) Yeah but that was mostly against lefties. I worry about him playing against all righties. But it's not just about Nix. I worry about where we're going to get offense from if a guy like Teahen is expected to put up corner outfield numbers, which he cant it depends where Gordon plays, if he's moved to 2b you're picking up a lot of power in a non-traditional power position
  3. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) In regards to SB, don't you have to factor in games played? I'm not saying Nix would have 25, but I would imagine he'd have at least 5 more in the same amount of games, no? Yes I agree, I'm just impressed with Getz success rate in SBs, I'm all for SBs if you don't get caught all the time, 25 with 2 CS is an effective rate IMO. You are right, Nix showed some success in limited work
  4. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) I wouldn't mind it if he were at 2B or 3B, but he sure as s*** better not be in RF. Even with JD sucking nuts for half the season he still put up an OPS 50 points higher than Teahen. I'm really afraid this is another KW sees a guy doing awesome against us and acquires him even though he sucks against everybody else. f*** man if Nix is at 2B and Teahen is at RF we might lose 100 games. not saying the White Sox would be world beaters, but I think a healthy rotation of Peavy/Danks/Floyd and MB in the AL Central would make it difficult to lose 100. Also, are we talking D with Nix to Getz? Because OBP between Getz and Nix was .324 to .308 and you get 10 more HRs out of Nix in about 120 less PAs... Nix OPS+ was 10 points higher (neither was spectacular though) and Gets RC/G was .1 higher, 4.5 to 4.4. The glaring thing is SB, Getz 25 out of 27 to Nix 10 out of 12. However, with the 10 extra home runs in less PAs, Nix actually scored himself 10 more times than Getz moving up 1 base 15 more times. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...xja01-bat.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...zch01-bat.shtml
  5. If it moves Gordon to 2b, then they will get power at a spot that isn't a traditional "power spot" while losing it where Teahen plays, either 3b or COF, but with that said, playing 81 games at the cell, it wouldn't be outrageous if Teahen his 18-20 HRs this year, not great, but above his career average playing 81 at Kauf
  6. Brock has mono, no training for a month, so the January date is off. After a run of great health luck, the UFC is getting smacked with it now.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 09:43 AM) While I am a Getz fan, he is just a guy. He doesn't do one thing "well", just a bunch of things ok. There are certainly spots for that on teams, but it doesn't make him a guy you can't do without. Now, if this means Nix is now the starter, I have an issue. The Sox are now filling RF with a cheap option. Thats fine, but it means another position can now be filled with a impact($$) player. It needs to happen. Can't agree with you more about Getz, didn't hate the guy, but I failed to see how he was anything special
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) I have to think any EPL or South America match has to be in the top echelon. Those soccer hooligans are nuts with their cheers and such. The pregame dancing in the New Zealand and Australian rugby leagues is pretty cool too I agree, some of that stuff is on youtube from the stands, and it's crazy.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) I wouldn't be surprised if Lackey wound up there as well, FWIW. yeah, whether they win it or not, they'll likely again sign 2 big FAs, but I see it getting crazy if they somehow blow the WS, I could see Lackey, Holliday and Figgins there.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) They are also going to look at the same history of injury and ineffectiveness for long periods of his career, to go along with falling revenues and losing advertisers to realize that they aren't going to be able to throw around money like that for a guy who is coming off a careerish year. Also, as I discussed with a mod, I have a real good source that says Pods is not a good team guy and many of the guys from the '05 team aren't really fond of him.
  11. Asking this question completely neutral, but to those who think Pods can get 2 years from the White Sox, what other teams out there are going to offer him 2 years or 1 year at good money?
  12. to me Damon would be a good size upgrade offensively and basically a push on D, so the question would be what he's looking for in a contract. Considering he's a Boras client I would bet Pods would be the better gamble as far as $$ goes, and I am not a Pods fan at all.
  13. I don't have any insider info on this subject, but from the outside looking in, it seems like Ozzie wouldn't like any vocal player leaders. He likes to be the voice of the team and that's it.
  14. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) Didn't the Sox try to trade for Mags for Manny like 6 years ago? I believe that was the mutli-team trade that was going to put A-Rod in Boston before he ended up going to the NYY, but I think Nomar was supposed to go to the White Sox.
  15. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Nov 2, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) This would not be like the Twins at all, but: (1) new ballpark to fill, and (2) need to impress Mauer given his upcoming free agency, and (3) take a shot for a year with Mauer, Morneau, and Ramirez at the center of the lineup. They kind of popped into my mind to, due to the new ball park, thus I would imagine some higher revenues, and I would have to believe they can't honestly believe they can maintain the same style of play at home in an outdoor ball park
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 12:54 PM) And Ill join in, again. I went from 260 to 215 last year, but over this past year due to school and now work Im up to 240, not good. Problem is I tore my ACL and I dont know what Ill be able to do exercise wise, but I need to eat healthier and less. Going back to Soxtalk Biggest Loser! I have no experience with this, but maybe swimming?
  17. QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Yeah I watched most of the Foo Fighters show, pretty good. I can't wait for them to tour again. I've seen a good number of concerts, and one of the best shows I ever saw was the Foo Fighters at the Metro when they toured on the first album... they played one show there when they opened for Mike Watts, but this was their headline show... the place was packed and they really delivered.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 12:05 PM) I could see JD being the Abreu of this off season. Even though he'd obviously have to play the field, I think he would be a good fit with an NL team, maybe the Giants.
  19. Alves out of his 107 fight with Fitch due to torn knee ligament... fights falling for the UFC... I'm wondering if this is a good opportunity to showcase a top WEC fight or two on a UFC card
  20. Not sure yet... I have to see if my hair is long enough for an old Burt Reynolds costume I used a few years ago, if not, will have to think of something on the fly.
  21. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Oct 28, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) I have a feeling Kos is gonna eat his lunch at 106. And that's just fine w/ me. Also, according to Meltzer. Dana is looking to put on Machida/Shogun II at 108 & Shogun has already agreed. I heard he wants to do it ASAP and the fighters basically agreed, just Machida has some injuries and will likely receive medical suspensions and has to let some things heal, but 108 sounds fairly reasonable.
  22. If Pods turns down a similar offer from the Sox or wants multiple years or an insane more amount money, then I'm fine with Ankiel at the 1 year 2m they're projecting.
  23. Koscheck vs. Anthony Johnson added to 106
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 27, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Rios doesn't count? not to me, last time KW let a mid to late 20's solid player go after a career low year he bounced back fairly well, I'm counting on the same for Rios, just with the White Sox!
