Ex-NBA ref Donaghy's book canceled by publisher
SoxFan562004 replied to juddling's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
There was a series involving the Kings a few years back that was absolutely absurd. -
I wouldn't be shocked if he was. I've posted a few times throughout the board that I think PK would be a good fit for a NL team that is looking for a little offense and can take on a little payroll, ie the Mets or the Giants. I don't think the Sox would get a huge haul for him, it would be something where KW would do it for payroll room. I'd say it's less than 50%, but a possibility.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 8, 2009 -> 12:35 AM) The Sears Center was absolutely electric tonite when Fedor came out, it was awesome. There were alternating "USA" and "FEDOR" Chants for the entire fight, and when Fedor landed that haymaker, the entire crowd came off the ground. It was great, I had a really good time tonite. Mousasi was impressive, Shields was boring and lost the fight in the chokeout, Mayhem had an absolutely hysterical intro dancing with his girls, and Fedor was just amazing. That unorthodox punch Fedor throws, it is just something else. His entire momentum just compounded into his fist Chuck Liddell also has unbelievable punching power from awkward angles. Fights were good last night. Meltzer posted the quick overnights, it was 3rd out of the 4 CBS MMA shows, CBS was last out of the major 4 networks but importantly it won the desirable male demo advertisers want. Not a huge success ratings wise or a massive failure, hopefully sounds like something they can build on.

Sox acquire Mark Teahen, $$$ for Getz/Fields

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 6, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Gold Glove recenty has been based on name value, All Star and MVP are based on production. You arent going to get an all star start or an MVP trophy if you arent one of if not the best at your position. Plenty of gold gloves are awarded every year to players based on their name(cough*jeter*cough) when there are plenty of players out there that are heads and tails better. yes, Jeter's and Palmerio's Gold Gloves made them a joke in my book (and by Palmerio's I mean the one where he played something like 17 games at 1b and won it) -
Truly an excellent player for the White Sox, too bad he had to fall off the cliff in the second half of this year.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Another BAD trade. Besides getting CQ/Peavy when's the last time we made a decent trade. Getz is better than Teahen and will be cheaper, younger, for more years. Getz is faster, better OBP, Defense. We can't compete with Yankees/Angels/BoSox/Twins unless we get some REAL TALENT here not trading young talent for average players. I mean, that is just flat out wrong. Last year Teahen had a .325 and Getz had a .324, so they were basically the same, and Teahen's career OBP is .331 -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) If anyone wants an accounting gig, I've gotten like 5 peeps hired at my place the past few months. Just have to move to Cali, haha. my friend got me a solid offer in San Diego last weekend, the money came up just short, so Chicago for awhile still!

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) 1. Pods-LF 2. Beckham-SS 3. Quentin-RF 4. Konerko-1B 5. ???-DH 6. Rios- CF 7. AJP-C 8. Ramirez-SS 9. Teahan-3B personally, I would rather bat Beckham leadoff in that scenario and Pods 9th and that's just because statistically Pods had his 2nd best year of his career last year, and at his age I can't expect him to duplicate it -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) When was he declared our leadoff hitter? he hasn't been, but I agree with Thunder that as a one year only and I stress one year, he would be an acceptable option instead of a crappy player who has theoretical tools for leadoff but really can't play baseball very well (not singling any player past or present out specifically) -

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Abreu re-ups with Angels per MLBTR http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/11/ange...obby-abreu.html Good thing we already got our LH power bat hahaha, OK, ignore that Abreu potential in my last post!! No terms, I'll guess 2 years 18, with his incentive that would be a 3m raise from last year -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Man trades make people say crazy things. Lead off Beckham, putting Rios in the 2-hole, getting Alex Gordon. We have many months ahead, I guarantee this is the first of many moves made this offseason. KW knows that his starting rotation needs some support and he also knows that a youth movement is coming with the leadership that players like Beckham brings. I definitely think he's a middle order hitter, but if somehow the Sox can get another RBI/run producer, just total speculation and a wish of mine say Adam Dunn and his last year at 10m, I wouldn't mind seeing Gordon bat lead-off for 1 year. I would rather have Gordon leading off in that scenario or even bringing Pods back cheaply to see if he can have another OK year. Stick Pods in left and have a rotation of Q, Dunn (or whatever run producer/power hitter) and PK between RF, 1b and DH... Now, defensive questions and money exist, but Beckham at leadoff for 1 year, and 1 year only, isn't a terrible option in my book. Run out: GB 3b Rios CF Q RF Dunn/Abreu DH (or similar player) PK 1b AJ C Alexi SS Teahen 2b Pods LF (or mix it up) Now, that D might be a little scarier than the offensive potential, but that's a very good lineup -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) did anyone catch Marcus Jones almost rip Mike Wessells arm off last night on TUF? That was UGLY for a guy that size and getting into at that age, his ground work was impressive, he needs to improve his "black mummy" stand-up some though.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) That was my thought too. Teahen had a heck of a lot draft hype. It's KW's M.O. and I like it. Any pro sport is such a mental game, 1st rounders have the raw talent at least and sometimes removing the pressure of being a teams hyped prospect helps. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Its true the Sox liked Getz, but management can turn on its favorite employees in a second. There has to be some motivation behind this trade, and it simply cant be: Teahan is the best 4mil player available. Which makes me believe that the trade had more to do with the players we sent, then the player we received. Teahan seems to be a player we are taking a chance with. He has had good stats at UCF, and maybe they believe he can finally reach the potential people thought he had. It would seem that Getz would have more value, but I just dont see KW as the type of GM that doesnt explore every option before making a deal. My guess is he called every team with this package and only KC had any real interest. Thats all merely speculation. All good points, also it's one day after the WS ended, I don't see KW being done at least exploring other moves. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Who do the Sox have with a legit shot at putting up a quality OBP out of the leadoff spot, without moving one of the guys who ought to be a major run producer lower in the order (i.e. Beckham) there? If they get another run producer, for one year only, I wouldn't mind seeing Beckham there, again, for one year only -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) I hate all the leadoff hitter talk. Leadoff hitters hit once a game, for one thing. For another thing, OBP trumps speed, you don't HAVE to have a speedster at the top. And most importantly, its just not smart to acquire players based on hitting slot specifically, because you essentially corner yourself in the market and limit your possibilities. This is the same in any line of business. You don't go recruit people that are ideal for a fourth of their job, you recruit people that are best overall for the WHOLE job. You assemble the best 9 guys you can, then make the lineup from there. Couldn't agree with you more. The line-up will shake out, there's never a point in signing a lesser player because he theoretically fills a certain spot "better." Same thing with BPs, it's better to have a RH dominant BP if they are better pitchers than sticking a crappy LHP in there just for the sake of having one. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) I seem to remember giving you every fielding metric in the book, and you writing it off. All i hear is how great Getz is going to be, and all those arguements aren't based on anything other then what the eyes told you. And eye can decieve. Also, people just want to throw away the 10 more HRs in about 120 less PAs, that means something. I basically think it's a push, it was a .324 to .308 OBP percentage difference favoring gets, but more pop from Nix. There's decent arguments that Getz takes more pitches, etc, but Nix is 1 year older than Getz and I didn't see anything from Getz to think the Sox are giving up a special player. -

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Here's my thought on it. Starting pitching isn't the reason we lost last year (other than Jose sucking a bunch early). It was offense and bullpen. So far we have not resigned one of our better hitters last year (and we most likely won't), picked up a guy with a .754 OPS. I know I'm freaking out, I know it's not totally logical, but I keep having visions of the following and it scares me to death. Nix 2B Beckham 3B CQ LF PK 1B Kotsay DH AJ C Rios CF Teahen RF Alexei SS AHHHHHH I know Wise was the starting CF last year so anything is possible, but I just don't see that happening -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) Why is power such a big make up for not being able to hit the ball? He has alot of flaws at the plate and if he's on an island and not surrounded by a bunch of other power/k guys then maybe there is an argument. However, with the current makeup of the Sox, Getz is a much better fit, not only for SB's, but for contact rate and extending rally's to make other pitchers get more work. The good news is that Nix wont start anyway and he'll be mostly a sunday player. Power makes up for a lot because Nix scored himself 10 more times with one swing of the bat in about 120 less PAs than Getz. I think you have a legit argument about what the White Sox need in guys who take pitches etc, but I'm not sure Getz is necessarily a large or small piece of that answer. Like I said, it's early and it's KW, to me this move is kind of a push and a positive if Teahen goes to 3b, because the Sox magically have an elite 2b -

I just have a feeling with the White Sox minor league getting better, that means it gives KW more moveable pieces, I still wouldn't be shocked if a major player moves, good be Alexei, maybe if an NL team with a major hole at 1b takes PKs last year, just speculating, but this is KW and he has a sick 1-4 in the rotation, he's not going to lay back this year
