GameThread: White Sox(21-25) vs Royals(23-24)

wow, I am so suprised that Wise isn't in there, hopefully this remains -
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 29, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) I'm workin at a bar and i need to advertise for the next ufc event, last time i advertised 7:45 undercard fights, but I never saw anything til 9. What time is the first fight going to be central time? the PPVs start at 9, undercard fights are only showed if they have time during the PPV. However, this event is in Germany, so there will probably be two feeds, the live one sometime in the afternoon and the normal 9:00 pm starting time

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Hopefully you are right, given Brian's righthandedness and playing well lately, he'll get starting time. actually I miswrote that... I could see Ozzie sticking Wise in CF with Pods in LF against a vast majority of righties and saying how great it is to have an extra left handed bat in there. Oh my god, I just envisioned how poor Pods/Wise/Dye in the OF is going to be defensively.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) There seems to be a bell curve. Some of the very smallest programs are rarely caught, and seem clean. The very top programs, can also be fairly clean. For example, does Coach K really have to cheat at this point? It's the programs and coaches in the middle. The pressure to get to "the next level" is immense. love him or hate him, Bobby Knight probably ran the cleanest (probably not 100% clean) big time program in the last 50 years -
it's still the same severity of injury correct? Nothing new like a torn ACL or anything?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) I know, I'm hoping against history that Anderson will get to stay starting in CF. And as much as I get on Pods, he's still far better than Wise. If Wise gets as much time as either (or more), then its an even worse move. lol, for the record, I changed my spelling mistake in my original post!!!!!!!!! He may get playing time over Pods, but not BA, I just don't see anything in Ozzie's track record that would make that a reality, he'll fall back on the lefty/righty thing.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) You asked and answered. Look at the numbers Wise and Kroeger have put up in their minor league careers, in their full seasons last year, and in spring training this year, and tell me you really think Wise is a better option for a backup OF. that's being optimistic god, I normally can't spell, but today is even worse.

QUOTE (tommy @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) White Sox roster move: Quentin to DL, Wise returns in time for tonight's game. well, I hope everyone enjoyed BA playing on a regular basis because unfortunately that is likely over. I don't mind Q to the DL, it kind of needed to happen to get a better grip on things with his injury. When's it retroactive to? He hasn't played in a few days.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) Look at his moronic cubs trade for Roberts. didn't the O's just sign Roberts to an extension? They have alot of good young talent coming up and if they have Roberts under control why would they want to trade him now for anything less than a complete haul?

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 28, 2009 -> 11:46 PM) PS how much does it suck to be Rich Franklin right now? Anderson owns him twice, basically kicking out of the MW division where he was definitely top-5 in the world, perhaps better. Then he goes and decides to move to the LHW division, but in the process he loses to another MW who Anderson also put in flux (Hendo). After that he decides to become buddy-buddy with Anderson and train with him and Blackhouse, but as soon as he does that, another Blackhouse guy goes and wins the LHW belt. LOL. Poor Rich! You have to feel bad for the guy. Depends on what Rich wants to do, the Blackhouse thing isn't entrenched and I can easily see if he beats Wand going to a new camp or back to American Fighter full time, basically not training with Blackhouse anymore, and the UFC setting him up as a contender at 205, there's money in it for both sides if that happens. At this point I hope Hendo beats Bisping and jumps back to 205, I would have zero problem if they make him an automatic contender at 205. UFC probably won't feed a young up and comer to Machida before Shogun, that's why I think that fight is announced fairly soon. I guess they could have a Shogun/Cane elimination match, but I think they just go with Shogun.

Skim for me. The Oberweiss skim milk is awesome, but I can go with your standard one as well

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) this is going to be a fun division all summer. Exactly, for as much as people blow the Tigers horn they and the Sox and the Twins are all 6-4 over their last 10 games. Also, the Sox and Tigers have played 22 games at home while the Twins have played 30, and guess what, the Twins are 5-14 on the road and 19-11 at home. That's why I thought it was crazy that people were acting like the Sox had no chance this year when there was talk about the Peavy trade, they do without him, adding him to the rotation would only make it stronger...

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 29, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Watch this weekend. Is Soria still not back? That will be the 2nd series the Sox catch that break, hopefully they can take advantage of it this time.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:31 AM) Do the Dodgers have any legitimate weaknesses? I mean something you can point to and say that could hinder them at some point this season? The Phillies have MAJOR starting pitching issues. Same with the Mets (outside of Johan). Not really sure what to make of the Cardinals and Brewers to this point. Reds have trouble scoring runs consistently. Not even gonna mention the Cubs (I guess I just did). The Dodgers have the perfect blend of youth/vets/depth. I would argue that Manny needs to come back as a force and they might need one more "stuff" guy to set-up Broxton. The numbers are there for the pen, but I would be a little more confident in them if they had another lights out guy stuff wise to set him up. The pen thing is a little nit pitcky and they have a fine pen as is, but I think they need a little more power, hence Manny coming back strong would be a big help. I think you can do alot with speed and "small ball" type of players, but in the modern game with ball parks as they are and increased workout regimens having nothing to do with PEDs power is still important. Say they get in a series with the Phills and have to play in their park, even in Oct that thing still is a bandbox and could come down to a couple home runs or so. Again, I clearly think they are the best team in the NL right now, but those are some things I would look at if I was scouting them from the inside.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 29, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Dayn Perry is a glorified blogger, he really doesnt know much about the sport. Also, stories like that that prop up the Mets, Cubs, NYY or Red Sox get a lot of hits or e-mails from drool case casual fans, which unfortunately, seems to drive a vast majority of the "media" not actual reporting of facts or reality, hence barely anybody is reporting that the Cubs can't add payroll.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 28, 2009 -> 11:14 PM) MICHAEL BOURN! It's perfect. He's super fast and can't hit. yeah, but Wise is coming back, not super fast and can't hit much either!!! Hope BA gets a donut for the bench! -
QUOTE (tommy @ May 28, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) If it was last year, Cubs come back and win this one. Something is missing this year, and I like it. I agree 100%, in fact the way that game was going, Dodgers getting hits and wasting opportunities or poor base running, led me to believe the Cubs were winning that game. Ramirez is a huge loss for them, and I know I'm not breaking any news with that one, but Soto is really hurting them by just doing absolutely nothing.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 28, 2009 -> 11:08 PM) Bill Scherrer scouting Houston I'm sure is true. I'd be shocked if the Sox don't have scouts following most floundering teams right now. However, Gonzo is just putting two and two together with the Oswalt stuff. I watch a lot of baseball and follow it closely, but Houston hasn't been on my radar this year, who else would they have that the Sox might be interested in? Any back of the rotation/innings eater starter in case Count and Colon can't answer the bell? what's their 3rd base situation in case they don't want to rush Slayer? Could be Oswalt, would fit KWs style, but wondering what else is there. I agree with you though, KW with a good farm system and money coming off the books will mean a ton of rumors The problem with KW striking soon is, as long as they believe Oswalt is healthy, why rush to trade him now? Can you imagine the haul they could get from him at the deadline? -
QUOTE (MN_Sox @ May 28, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) I agree recently maybe so...but I've been a White Sox fan since '83. And I still remember those days back then when the White Sox just absolutely sucked because we had no farm system, and we didn't invest in any players. Those days of long ago when we couldn't keep any talent, even home-grown talent. I am glad that recently, the White Sox have been doing better in keeping and trying to get better players, build up the farm. But as far as I'm concerned, we still have never tried to go after the "big" name guy. And I believe that most big name high priced players wouldn't want to come to play for the White Sox. It's like Cleveland, Kansas City, Minnesota; most big name players wouldn't want to play there...most of your good high priced players would rather goto the Angels, Yankees, and Red Sox. I believe the White Sox have as much tradition and history as the Red Sox and Yankees, but the White Sox would never be anything close to what those organizations are. I guess it's good to dream that some day, ballplayers would actually "want" to come to Chicago; not the Cubs! I don't know just my $ .02, take it for what it's worth. Maybe we need to build a new stadium???? Isn't it about time? 99% of the players would come here if the Sox offered the most money and the most years, which doesn't mean they are "cheap" it could mean they plan well. How many WS have the Yankees won since they started handing out those mega contracts? How great are those contracts in the back-end? Would you want the Sox to be like the Cubs are and tied up by some bad contracts for the next few years? Torii Hunter was a big FA when the Angels signed him, and he was going to come to the Sox but LAA offerred more (can't remember if it was $$ or years or both). Say what you want about the Yankees, nobody comes close to the tradition they have.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 28, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) Minny IMO has had either one of the most or *the* most pathetic ownership situation in baseball for quite a while now. How could a team routinely be soooo close to winning it all, yet constantly kick their fanbase in the nuts like the Twins have over several offseasons? Minny's farm has always been overrated anyway in terms of impact-level talent. What they are great at though is scouting and bringing in guys that fit their system. I strongly believe that with the scouting and developmental staff they have there, if the Twins had more flexibility with payroll they'd have a lot more talent. I'm sure they know who it is on the farm that they'd like to trade, but the problem is actually getting the green light to take on salary. The Twins have swung and miss after Ryan left with both the Santana and Garza deals, but I do think they were kind of forced in both situations. Garza was a guy whose attitude they didn't seem to like, and Young was the type of player they probably thought they needed going forward with the open-air stadium. The Santana deal was different as I don't know what the Dodgers were offering (if they even were involved), but I can't blame the Twins for taking less from the Mets in order to send Santana to the NL. And dealing Johan was still the right move since ownership wouldn't allow the type of extension he commanded. The dome also makes them look a hell of a lot better than they are IMO

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ May 28, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) I mean, it's simeon. I really don't think this will change people's perception on him that much. I agree, the NCAA/NBA system is such a joke and been going on for so long, I don't think players ever really take a hit when stuff like this comes out -
Evans/Rampage are the TUF 10 coaches. White says Rampage wanted the Evans fight more than the title fight at this point. Should make for good TV. Also, saw some reports that Machida turned it down because he wants to fight quicker than Dec. Kind of leaves Machida's opponent in the air... I guess they could go with Shogun, and I am fully aware of his PRIDE career, but a loss to Forrest (I've heard all the excuses, but he still lost the fight) a completely uninspiring win over Coleman and a KO of a not-at-the-top-of-his-game Chuck isn't exactly the greatest resume, but I'm really struggling to find someone who they could put against him in Sept or Oct... ultimately I'm sure they would want to see if Forrest could upset the Spider and make that match (unlikely, but it's MMA, you never know). Spider and Machida won't fight, they're training partners and friends. Maybe if Franklin beats Wand or if Henderson beats Bisping he can jump back to 205.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 28, 2009 -> 10:28 PM) Roy Oswalt's stuff is still there. If you put a decent offense around him and a GM and Owner who are not absolute morons, i think he's got a chance of smoothing things out. yeah, I'm hesitant, not completely against it... does he have a NTC or anything? Because I would be calmer with the 2 years left and not having to add that 3rd.
