  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Oh, and wouldn't Swisher have looked good in CF this year? I usually shy away from this argument, but it's obvious that was a pure salary dump and probably to make Ozzie happy since he didn't like him or whatever b.s. excuse he has. Ozzie put BA behind the 8-ball, drove Swisher out of here, is it too crazy to fear he might sink one of the good prospects like Beckham or Jor Danks if he doesn't like him?
  2. man the Count against a good hitting team, it's going to get ugly tonight. It's hard to get swept in double headers, but when a team absolutely hands a game to a team like the Sox did today, it will be very easy for the Tigers to get this one tonight
  3. that was one of the most embarassing/depressing/dissapointing Sox games I can remember watching in a long time. Gallaraga flat out sucked today and he only gave up 3 runs
  4. very good match and over all very entertaining night for the WEC, as is par for the course for them.
  5. Strikeforce with a good card, but to me, the catch weight fight thing is getting a little old, eventually they have to try and push their champions and divisions and their announcers are quickly becoming old WCW Nitro announcers where every fight is the biggest fight ever and every fighter is the best fighter in the world, that gets old very quick. Fedor and Barnett on promoting their PPV, I believe it was part of the deal to let AA on the card since his contract is held by Affliction. Man, Fedor is a bad man, but it's tough to promote him, he lacks the entertainment value outside the ring and stuff like that means alot to grabbing casual fans, especially when the UFC owns most of his old fight footage.
  6. Mariners beat Twins 2-1... and the AL central is rapidly becoming the NL West of the last few years, but hey, at least it will make for an interesting summer!
  7. well now with him saying it that makes Zambrano, MB and Oswalt 3 big name pitchers who have said a similar thing... we'll see when the time comes and if they're still pitching well because the contracts will be great
  8. very strong Strikeforce card on Showtime tonight starting at 9:00 CT... I just can't believe how many people don't have Showtime!
  9. as much as many people would want to see a youth movement this year in the majors, it would just completely go against KWs MO to do that if the Sox are anywhere near contention. I think he would go the opposite way and try to add a veteran using the farm system.
  10. My friend yesterday called the Cubs the Yankees of the N.L... I didn't even bother arguing with him about it. I think it's funny when Cubs fans are crying about injuries and then point to Bradley and Harden as two of the examples... look, if you have those two on your roster they're going to get hurt and the team should absolutely expect it, those shouldn't come as suprises. Also, it's funny how people are saying Hendry is hamstrung by the sale being in limbo... the team has a $136 million dollar payroll!! What he is being "hamstrung" by is some bad contracts he signed people to that are only getting worse, something like 120 million on the books next year
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) The bashing of Jeter's defense is one of the greatest examples of hyperbole in the history of the internet. He should've been moved to 3B a few years ago and he never had great range to begin with. But he was far from a "horrible" defensive SS in his prime. not really, he's a terrible defensive SS, flat out terrible. He doesn't have the arm for 3rd base and would have had to move to 2nd.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) I seriously can't wait. This kid reminds me a lot of Jeter. Bash me all you want, but he's a good contact hitter with some pop, and he gets tons of grief for his defense but Jeter's arm isn't overly strong either. no, Jeter defensively is just flat out horrible, hence the report that a group of scouts put out in the offseason naming Jeter the worst everday defensive player... although if Slayer was on multiple world series teams with the White Sox I would take it!!! This move really made me happy and hopefully the Sox stress to him that if he struggles it's OK and they are still confident in him. After the last two games the teams needed to give his bat a shot. I wonder if KW had to force this on Ozzie or watching the lineup the last few games made Ozzie open to it. I think Ozzie urged KW to trade Swisher, maybe KW told him he has to bring Beck up and give him regular ABs.... between 3rd and 2nd that shouldn't be too hard to find
  13. I hope all the women of chicago have been warned that he's hitting town
  14. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) Funny that you should mention "constantly injured" rajah.com you can see the video on youtube too it's one of the most douche chill inducing things I've seen in a long time, he's a real tough guy
  15. glad Murph is gone, but dissapointed Holmes is getting shoved out of a day time slot over MacNeil. Too bad Holmes had to be burdened with Hampton, he had no chance to succeed with him. I will most likely listen to Waddel and Silverman over MacNeil alone, but will give the cross talk segment a shot since I like B & B a lot and think the dynamic with MacNeil will bring out the best in him. It's unfortunate that the Score went with a guy who appeals to meatheads and thinks veiled cocaine references are cool over a good young broadcaster who is really starting to come into his own.
  16. awesome. After the last two games they need another bat in the lineup with Q out and BA extremely sick.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:29 PM) s***, he's a Boras client? Well, there goes that idea, unless he fires Boras for some reason. I'm pretty sure he is, someone on the board needs to confirm
  18. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) I've been a bit critical of Holliday in the past because I never got the chance to see him much, and his numbers screamed of him being a product of Coors (and there's no doubt he benefited from playing half of his games there), but after watching him and studying him these past two games, I'm becoming a big fan. He's got a really nice looking swing and I really like his approach at bat. Plus, he's got speed for a big man, and his D has really been improving as he's been playing a damn solid LF this year. I love JD and would hate to see him go, but I wouldn't mind seeing us let JD go, sign Holliday to a 4 or 5 year contract, bring JT back for one more year, and move Q to RF. We improve our D in the OF, get younger (Holliday will be 30, but still, that's 6 years younger than Dye), and get faster. Plus, Holliday provides more OBP than Dye. his OPS+, which is ballpark adjusted, has always been good, the guy is legit. Would love him on the Sox, but he's a Boras client, so it would have to break a huge trend
  19. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:20 PM) Got it. It's from ESPN not sure if today's game is included. ah, OK, the way they were on your post they didn't lineup well, but yeah, it looks like they include today and baseball-reference did not
  20. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) SPLITS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS Season 32 83 5 26 5 1 0 9 3 15 0 1 .313 .333 .398 .731 Certain 3B in NL Guess who? close to Juan's, but they're not, unless those are after today's game, nope the 1 strikeout would take him out of that running
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) Papelbon trying to f*ck us over. he came through... Looks like the Twins are home again, so look for everyone to knob them and completely ignore that they are just following the trend of dominating at home and sucking on the road and they've played more home games than than the Tigers and Sox
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) I actually saw the aurora once from the north suburbs, on the lake, looking north up the lake away from the city lights. Faint, but it was definitely there, and it was reported on the news that others saw it as well. It does happen on very rare occasion. I also remember a very small earthquake happening in Chicago, I think it was centered in the near west suburbs, some time in maybe the early 80's. It was like a 3.1. So there! I saw it in Seymour Skinner's kitchen after a fine dinner of steamed hams...
  23. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Is Anderson still having flu like symptoms? Could be the reason. didn't hear that, I know Jenks had it bad and a locker room is like daycare when it comes to a bug, so hopefully that's true.
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) has ozzie made it official that Wise has his job back? damn, i keep hoping after every AB where he looks completely lost Ozzie will let BA start, but at least he put him in to PH and for defense last night.
  25. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) When I watch its really only to see the coaches. Dan Henderson has always been a favorite of mine so this season isnt that bad. Love Hendo, fight for fight he's had one of the toughest careers, he's awesome. FWIW, Dana is in LA at a meeting with Lorenzo Fertitta (sp?) working on a deal that "will change the face of MMA and UFC." Usually when he says this it is a big business deal and it honks MMA message board fan boys off. So I'm speculating a big sponsor (like Reebok or Nike) or a big foreign TV deal
