  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) Remember, last time he hit the FA market, the DJIA was under 8000, Citigroup and Bank of America had been bailed out a couple weeks before, and it seemed plausible that credit default swaps would provoke the end of Western Civilization. and the Cubs still signed Milton Bradley for 3/30 instead of Dunn for cheaper.
  2. Heyman twittering that D'Backs are out of PK, so that's one team down.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) Cowley says that the rest of the team believe Paulie is coming back and that KW is seeking to rectify last years offense woes with big bats. Cowley also said Tigers interest in Dunn really pushed White Sox to sign him.
  4. Cowley: Many expect PK to be done soon.
  5. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) Oney Guillen: America's Finest News Source that whole thing smacked of someone, probably his dad, telling him to go retract it.
  6. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:57 PM) lol also see the over/under (assuming Paulie is resigned) about the slowness in the middle of the lineup: 50.5 they can trot their HRs as slow as they want! If they re-up PK AJ is gone and Tyler or a cheap vet will catch, but I would live with that
  7. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) LOL. That's an absolute joke for a ton of reasons and not even worth reporting. agreed, this team is trying to shed payroll or at worst keep it stable, how would they add PK at at least 12m a year? Their vet contracts are so bad it's not like they can move them to free up payroll.
  8. FWIW, Heyman is now reporting Cubs may be after PK, but I don't see how the Sox could add payroll
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) MLB trade rumors, that's why I wrote RUMORED. cool, also sounds like LA Times is reporting
  10. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) 4 year $56mil is the rumored deal Sox/Dunn!!! not that I don't believe, but source?
  11. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Dunn is gonna sign for $4/56M. That's some great work by the Sox brass. where did you get that?
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Cowley - Several Sox players are under the belief that not only is Dunn done deal, but PK is close. Seems the demise of JR's checkbook is exaggerated wow, would be awesome.
  13. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) According to Rosenthal, Sox want an answer from Konerko about what is he looking for in his next contract. Rosenthal writes Sox feel like they are missing on opportunities while waiting for Paulie. I'm posting the column in the Konerko thread. makes sense and good to hear that the Sox are moving forward if they feel it's the best.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) I feel like extending Konerko would be a HUGE mistake, but we can worry that after Dunn is signed. depends what the $$ is, but I would worry about overpaying PK too, as much as I love him as a Sox player.
  15. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Cowley will be on B&B at 4pm. Boers has solid baseball sources, hopefully he's calling his Sox guy during the break.
  16. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Landing Dunn and re-signing Konerko would be fantastic. That would be, however, about $27 million tied up in 1st and DH. But, as someone noted, you're looking at a payroll of about $115 million. That's not outlandish. it's also KW, he could have some crazy trade lined up. I imagine if they sign Dunn they would have had to promise him some run at 1B or OF, even though he is a bad defender. Also, he and his agent could have been using the not liking the DH for Dunn as leverage for some more money or an extra year.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman kenny williams wanted 2 lefthanded hitters to start the winter. does dunn count as both? did KW want to add 2 never before on the team? Because I could see them bringing AJ back.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) I disagree, as this is a situation where they went head-to-head with other teams financially to land a player. all that means to me is the White Sox have chosen to spend wisely in FA when going head to head. They've been in on a lot of players, but pull back when it goes that extra 10+m or year or two. I would have loved for the Sox to sign Torii Hunter a few years back, but could easily see why they wouldn't go that extra that LAA swooped in with.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) I don't see how we can sign both at around $12 million for the next 2-3 years. We're not the Red Sox or Mets. if they did it the payroll would be around what, 115m, that's still a far cry from those two teams.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) It would be the first major FA signing, with another team's FA, since Albert Belle. There were some decent names signed as free agents, Dye being one, but he was in the bargain bin. It would be the first time KW shelled out more than $20 million for another guy's FA ever. yeah, but some of the trades they made are roughly the same as FAs, the Freddy extension and the Peavy contract were big adds.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) I like the Dunn signing assuming it will happen. I just hope it means they don't have to dump pitching to afford him. Or settle for Tyler Flowers at catcher. I would use the term "trade" pitching, because in this market with some of the arms the Sox could trade they should be able to get quality back for them.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) Heyman is now saying they are closing in on Dunn and still negotiating with Konerko. Maybe JR has a few Little Ceasers franchises he hasn't mentioned before. lol, could be, maybe Wing Stop, but really, the Deadspin documents from a few months ago, even though none were the Sox, just furthered my belief that the Sox have money. Also they said the best thing to have in any sports team is the equity, then you try to break even or even lose a little, I have a hard time thinking of many franchises in MLB that would have the equity JR's group has in the team.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) That he won't be all that expensive and he's familiar with the city, as well as his relationship with KW and Ozzie. exactly, I don't think there's anything concrete, but it's logical. With D-Lee at 1b, Bacon at 2b, Alexi at SS and Morel possibly at 3rd, the Sox have a very impressive defensive IF
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Few thoughts: - something we lacked last year in my opinion was a strong sinker ball hitter, which was a void left by Thome leaving. Dunn would really help us with this, especially against a team like the Twins if they retain Pavano. - D. Lee was a player that seemed to get hurt a lot by the wind blowing in a ton at Wrigley the first few months. maybe had some to do with it, but what I saw was Lee was struggling at the plate last year, however, at a good price I would love to see him with the Sox
  25. I don't believe in it at all. I think many are con artists and some are people who genuinely believe they have that type of powers.
