QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) Jon Heyman SI_JonHeyman #chisox dangled beckham for a-gon. Was talk deal could expand to include floyd. But chi didn't favor big quick ext for adrian wow, love A-gon, but if you made that deal, even without Floyd involved, I would have wanted the extension done, A-Gon was an all in long term move IMO

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) Nationals are going to offer a HUGE number to Cliff Lee. Probably something like 3 years, $10 million really though they are offering a seventh year and other teams, including the NYY only want to go 6. Heyman just tweeted years are important to Lee and the seventh may make difference. I believe NYY step up and give him the 7th

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:09 AM) #rangers, focused on cliff lee, "not likely'' to get konerko. paul's friend says "no way'' on #orioles. #chisox in drivers seat - Jon Heyman What a great way to start the day. If everything is equal or close to equal, and a west coast team isn't involved, that bodes extremely well for the Sox

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) The lack of rumors regarding DLee is a little unusual. He's been the forgotten man in all the 1B rumblings. I wonder if he wants to stay in Chicago and is waiting on KW to make a decision. some of it is there is still a question about his wrist... also, and I have a feeling this has something to do with PK wanting to wait to sign, the marquee FAs have to fall first often. D-Lee is a bargain FA now and PK is a notch below Lee, Crawford, Werth, the A-Gon trade, etc... the money teams want to push their plan A hard, ie Sox being aggressive with Dunn right away and then see what sifts out... PK might get a bidding war going if certain teams plan A falls through.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Only team I can see knocking them off is the Steelers because of the Big Ben to Mike Wallace/Hines Ward connection. And it has to be a clear day. If its snow conditions, Brady will take care of business. Flaco can be erratic, but he has the arm to exploit that secondary, if the O-line for Ravens play well in a Pats playoff game, I can see them. Again, Pats are easily my AFC super bowl pic right now, but I can see them losing due to the D

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) Meh, I'm like 99% sure PK will be back. Could be wrong. But doubt it. I'm with you on that, I think for another team to offer him a contract that would blow him out of the water or make the Sox offer look OK some teams would have to lose out on others, and I just don't see that. I can see KW going to plan B before PK decides though, and I would be OK with that, I love PK, but KW needs to make sure he does what is best for 2011 White Sox, I would understand

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) Agreed. I've loved Lovie Smith as a football coach. Ever since his days with the Rams actually. The Bears' fanbase will never embrace him for being a players' coach. They have one image in their head when it comes to a football coach and that's Ditka. For some stupid reason, Lovie will never live up to that. I remember wanting Lovie to get hired as the Cowboys coach for a long time. I think he's probably the most underrated coach in the league behind Raheem and Reid. the one who I was surprised turned around on Cutler is Schlereth (sp?) He ripped him but now he compliments him... I just ignore the Cutler haters, he is doing a hell of a job with that offensive line, and his strong arm makes those short plays work extremely well

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:34 PM) I don't see anyone beating them the rest of the year honestly. The only thing that concerns me is their secondary. Now if Mark Sanchez was a good QB, he could easily exploit that, but he's probably the most overrated QB in the league. Pats are on a hell of a roll right now, but I second your secondary concerns! I can really see an AFC team exploiting that in the playoffs

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) The longer it takes, the more it's questioned. I don't know, when Dunn signed PK's people said they were going to wait until after the meetings were over, so from their side, no... I really think KW has solid plan B and C and doesn't want to get burned
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) and wasting a first round pick on tebow after trading for orton and quinn(and extending orton) that would have been the big one for me... I'm not a Tebow hater, but it was a complete waste to use a 1st round pick on him.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) atleast it was entertaining though, unlike the s***fest TUF Finale. yeah, it was entertaining, but on TUF finale the Phan/Garcia match was good and the finale had its moments, but SF was a major show for them, they really need to start matching guys up better. I really hope SF's ratings were good or at least were steady against UFC... With CBS continuing to have cold feet, I'm don't want Showtime to get screwy with them... SEG is having money problems meaning DREAM guys may be looking for work, SF can beef a roster up quickly.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) Texas yeah makes sense... I think maybe then PK and his camp might be waiting until Lee signs, because if the Rangers lose out on him they make push hard for PK, but if Lee resigns Vlad might be a cheaper option If KW has a solid plan B or C that involves a FA, then I can understand him wanting to move fast, don't want to get caught with little to no options.

What teams would be after PK with the Sox, I know D'Backs were rumored, but a day or two ago Heyman said they were out on him
-
Heyman has Nats going after Pavano, Twins want to keep him but Nats might outbid them

QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Anyone watch Strikeforce last night? Man, what a show. Hendo dropping bombs,Daley and Lawler knocking out their opponents. Great action. And I think it's time for Lindland to retire. He cant be getting KOed that badly at his age on a yearly basis. it's good action, but mostly one-sided match-ups on paper that turned out the way they should have.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) SI_JonHeyman Jon Heyman A gon is now a red sox 1 minute ago will be interesting to see if extension was done or they reworked a trade without one
-
Heyman tweeting A-Gon is now officially with Red Sox, no word on if extension was done or reworked trade
-
Well never mind about Bos making a late run at PK if everything else falls through,Heyman now saying A-Gon to Red Sox is done, no word on if an extension is done or they reworked and he's there on his last year
-
Anyone think it's realistic that if Red Sox miss out on Crawford and can't come to some sort of deal for A-Gon without the extension they make PK a huge 2 year offer?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) This might well be one of those "Detroit 2003" type cases where they're regularly mired in last place, and if they want a FA to actually go there, they need to over-do it. i think this is exactly what it is. If Nats offer was comparable to Bos, Philly, or another "winning" team he would have gone there, they probably had to blow him out of the water with a deal.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) SI_JonHeyman: there is optimism the gonzalez trade will happen. but on the of chance it doesn't, #padres will keep him and won't field offers. #redsox in other words Jed Hoyer: Yea I am literally admitting that this was just a deal for my buddy Theo Looks like teams have some concerns about his shoulder and want to see him up-close in ST before committing to a long-term deal. The Red Sox deadline is sometime around noon today.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) If you believe the Forbes numbers, they could probably get by with it for 1, maybe 2 years, but after 3 years, they wouldn't have the revenue to sustain that and their debt position would become bad enough that they couldn't get the loans they needed to cover it. They'd wind up like the Rangers from last year. Forbes numbers suggest that something in the $120 million range might be sustainable. Before I google it, anyone have what JR and crew paid for the Sox and what Forbes estimate is now? Also, not to be macabre, but JR is 74 and his group could always turn and sell at some point and make a ridiculous profit, so I don't see him sitting around, seems like he's going for it. OK, group bought it for 18m in 1981 and Forbes had it valued at 466m in April of this year. Interesting that gate receipts for '09 were 68m and player expense were 112m. So adding broadcast revenue and all the other revenue sources the Sox and other teams use that they are doing OK financially, especially considering the equity the group has in the team http://www.forbes.com/lists/2010/33/baseba...Sox_334758.html Please note I looked at this very quickly and by no means a finance expert, so those out there please add, interested to hear opinions... this combined with the deadspin leaked docs and it makes sense to me that the Sox can add payroll and not be completely screwed
-
Realistically who are the other teams that will be in on this? Heyman reported yesterday via twitter that D'Backs are out... I've heard the O's, but I imagine it would have to be a Godfather offer for him to go to the east coast and get his brains beat in by that division for the last stretch of his career. Also heard Cubs, but also believe all the reports they realistically can't add significant payroll and nobody is taking a significant chunk of one of their bad deals to free it up. If A's made a play for Dunn I would guess they would go after PK. What other teams are rumored at this point?

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) Looks like Jeter's deal is 3/51 easily one of the biggest ESPN created dramas in a long time. This was never really a story IMO, he had to sign with the NYY, nobody would give him anywhere close to that number. Heyman saying Rangers in on Crawford as well as NYY and LAA
