  1. If you haven't seen it, go out of your way to catch a replay of the WEC show, the overall card was decent, but the main event is a FOTY candidate and in the 5th round Pettis pulls off one of, if not the, most entertaining moves pulled in an MMA match.
  2. there are always a few floating out there, and this may be the one you're talking about, but there is a jewelry store that has a couple at a cabin and it's storming out, and the guy is just insanely creepy and weirds me out.
  3. Heyman reported it was clear Wood really only wanted to go to the Cubs and other teams, including NYY just backed off
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) I still think if Jenks eventually takes a lesser deal it might be back in Chicago. someone will get desperate, he might have to wait until ST, but I think a team will have an injury or panic and give him good money
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 07:55 AM) Yeah, what LH is available? I know Feliciano is. But that's probably another 3-year deal. There's Joe Beimel (however you spell it). Ron Mahay is old and sucks now. I just can't see another multi-year deal handed out to another reliever. It's gonna have to be a trade. Not only that, but Heyman has the NYY keying in on LH pen guys, so they'll just basically outbid any team on the top guy.
  6. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) That was true. There were two offseason plans presented to ownership. One was to see how many parts they could dump, the other is what they're doing now. Ranger, are you hearing anything about how the Sox feel about the fan reaction to the moves? Meaning are they satisfied it's created enough interest to justify?
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Jesse Crain had 62 k's in 68 innings against only 27 walks, for the highest k:9 of his career. He has only had one bad season where he was healthy, which was 2009. I think he's a safe bet to be a solid contributor out of the bullpen for the life of this contract. I love this signing. I know it's old and gets mocked on here sometimes, but Cooper is a hell of a pitching coach IMO and Sox have had success with relievers in the past, 100% success? No, but that's an unfair standard. He comes from a great org too, so I like this deal
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) Because they are above the number they want to be at and season ticket renewals were s*** this year. If a trade doesnt come soon I would be extremely surprised. have you heard an update since the Dunn and PK resigning or is that still the case?
  9. Looks like the Twins signed nishioka per Heyman, looks like 3/10. I really can't believe the Cubs are trying to bring Wood back, they need some serious SP help and they're doing a reunion tour.
  10. QUOTE (since56 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) Is Crain better than Putz? Besides signing Dunn this team has not changed much. mark kotsay and the whole rotating DH of doom is gone, if they replaced that with an average player they would be better, even with PK's likely regression from career highs last year. They replaced it with Adam Freakin' Dunn, one of the premier LH power hitters in the game, he alone changes that line-up a lot. Also, Beckham and Q were complete blackholes in the line-up to begin last year, again if they were just average hitters the Sox were better.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 06:06 PM) I'm really curious to learn more about the details of the vesting option and what would Lee get if he met the criteria. I'm hearing $20+ million? I'm getting sick of all the praise Lee's getting for "taking less" money. If the numbers are anywhere close to said $20 million, then he's not really taking less money at all. it's out there, it's something like either 200 IPs the last year or 400 combined for the last two years before the vesting option. Will get interesting if he regresses a decent amount and they are pulling him in the 6th inning
  12. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) Yankees counter? Russell Martin and Mark Prior. Take that Red Sox and Phillies! Oh I'm sure according to ESPN those will be in the top 5 moves of the offseason. When they signed Javy last year everyone on ESPN said how great it was except they didn't give any reasons why they thought this time in NY would be any different
  13. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) The cross promotion stuff isn't happening anytime soon. Trust me. Yeah I agree, I never thought it really would, just too much for each promotion to lose
  14. I actually tweeted Josh Gross about the Viacom/MTV thing, he's ESPN's MMA reporter, and he pointed out Spike is also Viacom, so these are stand alone deals for the companies, likely won't have any effect on co-promotion with Bellator/SF
  15. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) Take it back. This is official. http://www.bellator.com/ViewArticle.dbml?D...TCLID=205054922 yeah, saw this earlier too... still good news since it's a consistent outlet, but MTV/Viacom can get real shaky about things and not get behind things for the long-term, especially since uppermanagement changes there somewhat often... FX deal would have been better, but this is still obviously good. Interesting that SF still has some form of deal with CBS which, if everything is still the same, is under the same Viacom umbrella as MTV networks, maybe makes for cross-promoted fights.
  16. wow, what a tremendous rotation they'll have, arguably best of all time... the panic in NYY land must be insane.
  17. sorry if this was already posted, but saw it and it made me laugh... http://www.theonion.com/articles/yankees-r...ek-jeter,18639/
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) Bill Simmons, you are awful. I can't believe they put him on a full game, he has one of the most annoying voices to listen to. I'll be the first to admit I think he is vastly overrated and is basically a "I remember that, it's funny" type writer, but beyond that, his voice shouldn't be subjected to the public for a full game.
  19. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) with the offseason boston has had this yr i dont think there will be one according to Heyman NYY is at more money and an extra guaranteed year, but said Lee liked Texas... also said another team involved, but other posters here have said he's an agent mouthpiece, so take with grain of salt
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) I heard today Ray Davis, a part of the ownership group, and a billionaire, is basically paying for the Cliff Lee extension himself if Lee decides to return to Texas. The money won't be coming out of the baseball ops budget. Also according to Kruk the same thing happened when the Phillies signed Thome. When they all met and had the figure Thome would require, the ownership group decided to pass, but one guy said he'd pay the contract himself. that would be extremely interesting, but I wonder if there's a stop point for the NYY on this
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) LOL. No he's not. I know the offensive difference is strong, but at least Juan can field the ball... but yeah, if I had to chose, I'm down with Q
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) One thing I noticed reading today's Tribune is that Konerko was ready to take 10 million to play for the Dbacks per season. So we basically had to up the ante to pay him and he would've given a hometown discount to get out of here or maybe because it was his home. I don't think it's out of the realm of reality to guess that with the Angels striking out on Crawford and apparently Lee, they may have jumped in with a strong bid.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) Single game tickets usually are in Feb. You can probably get in on ticket packages right now. yup, the e-mail went out about 2 hours after PK was announced, not that I don't blame them. It will be interesting to see if there's a decent bump from last year
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 10:34 AM) So how is that off-season feeling for the Tigers so far? They signed a guy without a real position to a large contract, and missed out on all of the big names so far. At least they got V-Mart, the Angels are having a rough one as well as Oakland.
  25. sorry if this has been posted a few pages back, but Heyman reporting Rangers sending delegation to meet with Lee in Little Rock and they'll stretch offer to 6 years, NYY at 7
