  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Heath Bell is a free agent at the end of next season, but I'm assuming he'll be type A. I'd consider trading Viciedo for him but I wouldn't give anything else of value. FWIW, Heyan is reporting via twitter that Padres will hold on to Bell at least into the season, they have no plans of trading him at this point.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) Ok, that's crazy. yeah, wow! I know KW said they won't trade anyone, but if need be I imagine could get a haul for one of the SPs with how the market looks
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Bellator Announces Major Tv Deal. http://mmajunkie.com/news/21608/exclusive-...-tv-in-2011.mma good to hear, they produce a quality product. They might get stronger too considering FEG is having all sorts of money problems and the future of DREAM is kind of shaky. This could hurt SF some, they don't have a regular outlet on basic cable and CBS still hasn't committed to another show.
  4. I have a few family members with diabetes, luckily Type II, and friends with a son that has Type I. Santo did so much to raise money and bring awareness to that cause, hopefully that legacy continues.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Dunn on with B&B in a minute. well, they should ask him directly about what was discussed and the expectations of DH and field for him
  6. good deal, get rid of Linebrink who would be nothing more than an innings eater and get AJs money for him. Obviously I want the Sox to re-up with PK, but the fact that Dunn and AJ deferred money leads me to think KW told them they will do the best they can to with that money to ink PK, if not they'll go after another solid 1b. PK would be ideal, but it's not a perfect world, I would still be pleased if Sox bring in somebody else to play 1b
  7. the Amazing Randy and Penn & Teller do some good work on debunking things such as psychics
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:31 PM) JP Howell and George Sherrill too. Sherrill would be a minor league deal and Howell would be a nice weapon as a midseason addition, maybe earlier. It would be like a trade. We need some lefties to bring to camp aside from Leesman because if Sale closes and Thornton sets up we still need a specialist. Maybe Sale is in the rotation though. I trust KW and Coop to make some questionable pen arms into good MLB arms. Obviously not a 100% success rate, but they've had success
  9. all rumblings have it sounding like he'll be a majority DH, but presser tomorrow could shed more light. I have a gut feeling if they miss out on PK they'll sign Lee, Pena or LaRoche or something of that ilk.
  10. The White Sox have money, and Jerry is old... not to make this too macabre but what is Jerry going to do, sit around for another rebuilding? The White Sox have a sweetheart lease deal on their stadium, parking revenue, all the creative revenue teams bring in that is shown in other teams financial documents leaked to Deadspin, and 1/4 ownership of a cable network... not to mention JR's ownership group has an insane amount of equity in that team. I'm not saying the Sox have been "cheap" because they been in the top 10 in payroll, but I also think there's money there and they're pushing the limits at this point, and I'm happy about it.
  11. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) If we add Paulie to what we currently have we're in the $125M+ range, believe it or not. I'm not so sure what today was about now (meaning Dunn, not AJ). PK made it clear he isn't signing anywhere until after the winter meetings... were the Sox suppose to wait around and and possibly lose out on both? They singed Dunn because he is an awesome offensive threat and a hell of a consistent hitter who was willing to sign now.
  12. pitchers with good mechanics get hurt, pitchers with bad mechanics get hurt, pitchers with good mechanics stay healthy and pitchers with bad mechanics stay healthy. Sale is what he is and Sox have to see how it goes, but I would imagine Sweaty Freddy will be back
  13. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) Not really excited about this... but if Jerry is raising the payroll, then okay it's a good signing at best. Hes a purely NL hitter with horrible OF defense (granted he just moved to 1B last year) that strikes out ~33% of the time for 14M a year (4 years too O_O) If this is Kenny's only "big" signing AND hes lets Konerko walk then I am disappoint. Would rather have Konerko at 28/2 than Dunn at 56/4... Might as well sign a couple more type As as the 23rd pick is gone. so what?
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) I realize Beckham is the only piece that would get it done. And I'm not even sure I'd do that. Beckham and CQ? Too steep. I agree, I would not trade Beckham for Rasmus straight up, and I like Rasmus a lot
  15. Score saying KW is putting AJ on hold until PK is sorted out.
  16. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) The Dodgers are paying $3.5 million of the $8.5 million owed. Therefore, Pierre will cost the Sox $5 million. If someone would take him, wouldn't you be happy to add that money to the payroll? well it depends how they would spend that 5m, but I honestly don't see a team taking Juan for 5m
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) Floyd and Quentin to the Cards would be interesting for a possible Rasmus swap... that would have to include Stl. taking 100% of their money, because Rasmus is a good player, in this market Floyd should be able to get more than that.
  18. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) Why not dump Pierre, save the $5 million he would cost this year, and put that money in the bullpen? Rios could lead off. Vizquel and Ramirez platoon in the 2 hole. Quentin bats 3rd and plays LF Dunn hits clean up as the DH Paulie 5th Teahen 6th, in RF Beckham 7th Morel hits 8th when Vizquel sits Castro and any good defensive catcher share the 9th spot That's my order, unless they could dump Teahen and his salary, which could also go into the bullpen. You couldn't get anyone to take Pierre, LAD are paying a portion of his money anyway
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) over under on # of times Hawk refers to Dunn as "country strong" throughout the season ill say 30 he'll also bring up his HS football and how he was a major QB recruit many times as well... B & B quoted KW saying they have payroll room for PK, meaning they have payroll room for a lesser, but better than Kotsay/crap player if PK goes.
  20. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) over under on # of times Hawk refers to Dunn as "country strong" throughout the season ill say 30 I think the Frank Howard comparisons are going to be off the chart as well.
  21. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) Exactly, our team isn't any better yet. Not one bit. If PK stays then yes, we are way better. As of right now, this is as lateral as it gets folks. I hate Dunn but I'm still really excited the team looks different. Nice job KW! but PK doesn't have to stay for them to be better, while it may be the ideal option to make them the best, as long as they replace Kotsay and crap with something better they have a better chance of improving since Dunn is an extremely consistent offensive player.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) Man I am in a good mood right now! Sign PK and I will do some f***ing back flips! I would love if they re-upped with PK, would be awesome, but all they realistically have to do is replace Kotsay and the rotating DH of death with something competent and they're better. If no PK, Pena would be a cheaper option.
  23. KW has moved his press conference until 2pm tomorrow.
  24. just for some fun, I think the Cubs have 4 years left on the Soriano deal... do they owe him more than 56m on it?
  25. Bernstein was just running down some of his offensive numbers, somehow I like this deal even more!
