Alexei opts out of 1.5 mil- Sox have a week to accept 2.5 op

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) Well, looking at how Tulo and Uribe cashed in, and what Reyes and the other Ramirez make, I would offer Alexei 3/15 next year and it might be low balling. How many more years do the Sox have exclusivity with him? They could give him a major raise this year and get some of the FA years sealed and Balta answered a few posts up! -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) This is such a bulls*** copout. Hudson could win the CY and we'd hear "Well, he did it in the NL." Newsflash: Jackson SUCKED in the NL. Jackson SUCKED for a team that's been out of the race from day 1. I don't think it's a copout, thanks for using wonderful language to spice up your argument too, it's an easier league, flat-out.. I think it's a copout when people go crazy over prospects, it's easy, they are complete unknowns and then if they miss you can fall back on "it's a crapshoot, even with top prospects, nobody is perfect."

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) Yes, Boras is his current agent. B-R gives you info on agents too. thanks... wow, I use BR a lot, must be one of those things my eye/brain never picked up on... thanks again!
-
who knows with how the market will shake out and what goes on with PK, but say the Sox have some interest in Manny for a one year deal, is Boras still his agent? (and I say "still" because I seem to remember him being his agent for the Red Sox mega deal, I could be completely wrong and he never was, lol!)

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) I can't believe how many Sox fans devalued Hudson on such a short sample size, his work with the Sox this season. What was it three starts? It sure seemed to me we could have got Jackson for much less. The perception to me at least was he was a guy who they desperately wanted to dump for salary purposes. I know some on here have disagreed with me on that. Jackson has been amazing. So that's a consolation, but couldn't we have given up a couple s***ty prospects for Edwin? Why didn't they then? It's so easy to say that or decide how the rest of the league valued Hudson and then use it as an argument to slam KW and the Sox, when none of us really know what the rest of the league and the White Sox valued Hudson when the trade went down, how the White Sox valued E-Jax, who else was calling about E-Jax and what were they offering... etc... So do you think KW purposely overpaid for him or got hoodwinked? QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Just like CQ was a pimp in 2008. Or how Beckham was last year. Edwin is pitching out of his mind right now. Will need at least a half season to fully gauge if this is the real Edwin. And when I say that I don't mean a 1.47 ERA over a full season. But a legitimate one or two, or at the very least an all-star caliber starter. I will say that he definitely, and this has always been the case, has the arsenal. Same can be said for Hudson, and he gets to do it in the NL. Good for him that he's pitching well in the NL on a team that was completely out of the race when they got him. So many things can happen, NEVER would want to see this but Hudson can throw a pitch and get hurt, the league can adjust and he gets batted around or at least even out. I like Hudson as a prospect, don't get me wrong, but that's all he still is at this point, and yes, all E-Jax is an up and down vet who is peaking right now, so we'll definitely see what has to happen. However, E-Jax is 26 and was once a top prospect, Cooper has a good track record with those guys, a perfect 100% track record of fixing them? Of course not, no pitching coach will ever have that.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) He's definitely one of those guys who could stick around long enough to reach that milestone. It depends where he ends up signing, if he resigns with the White Sox or another hitter friendly park for the rest of his career he has a shot I guess, but say he signs with the Mets or Atlanta or another team with a bigger park, then he has zero chance IMO.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) I do. I agree that this has been his best year. But we're not talking Jose Bautista here. All PK did from '04-'06 was put up a slash line of .291/.372/.540/.912. Averaged 39 HRs and 110 RBIs those years as well. When healthy, PK has been pretty damn consistent. That said, I'm still hesitant to dish out multiple years at a minimum of 10 million (probably looking at 12) to somebody his age. yeah, it will be interesting to see how they handle PK this year. I think Danks will be the lynchpin for the Sox offseason, they'll make a push to resign him and if not I think they'll move him, and if they resign him I think E-Jax and Gavin will be in play for trade. Also, the market will be up in the air again, I don't see a major jump in FA dollars outside Crawford and Lee getting mega-deals, so I think a lot still has to play out, I'm sure KW has Plan A, B, C, D, etc...

very excited to see Mitchell plans on being ready to play, sucks he lost a vast majority of this year, but hopefully he can get some decent work in and be ready in ST

Chris Sale Appreciation Thread (FIRE KEITH LAW)
SoxFan562004 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sale is a 1st round pick so there's money/other players passed on gamble to take into account, but Chapman is also guaranteed about 30m as well. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Konerko should be getting some serious consideration for MVP he will get some and if the White Sox pull off a great comeback against the Twins he will finish 2nd to Hamilton, and there's no shame in that

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Just remember guys.....Edwin Jackson isn't dominant. Afterall, Carlos Silva had a good month or two for the Cubs.... his ERA + was very good for the Cubs, but it topped at like 130, 30% better than an average pitcher, Edwin coming into tonight with 4 starts was 454, 354% better than an average pitcher... comparing apples to oranges... not sure if this was meant to be in green, but who cares, I wanted to post how freaky EJax has been, even before tonight!

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 10:06 AM) Totally, 100% agree with this. Jackson is great, but he didn't require us giving up our top prospect to get him. Value-wise, that trade will never make sense. Just because he's the White Sox top prospect doesn't mean the White Sox should overvalue him. They have to realistically slot him as the rest of the league does especially if you see something of value you really want, and the White Sox said they saw some stuff on Jackson that they thought they could quickly fix. As far as Edwin Jackson's contract goes, well the deadspin documents shed a lot of light on how you can't always go by what we the public may think is a realistic revenue, they play in the 3rd largest market, a lot of things like TV and other stuff are going to be higher, the Rangers TV contract is about 60m, with the Sox owning 25% of Comcast, it's not unrealistic to think the Sox is in that ballpark... also, look at some of the things like Jumbotron messages on those sheets, they are a lot more than many people I've talked to thought they were.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) To their credit, Girardi has said before he would love to manage the Cubs (before he was the Yankee skipper), is a Naperville, IL native and I believe was a Cubs fan growing up. It isn't that unrealistic he would walk away from the Yanks to take on a challenge of not winning anything in 100+ years of a team he grew up rooting for. I would have to say though, the dollar figures have to be right however for him to leave, more-so than his roots. I wouldn't be shocked to see him as manager because of the reasons you listed, but if he goes to the Cubs I imagine it would have to be for a long term contract because with their reported cash flow problems they can't even come close to offering him the roster the NYY can, at least for a couple of years. I understand it's NL vs. AL, so easier to be competitive, but the Reds have younger players and will be good for awhile and the Cards will have a good core at least for one more year, so it's not like they have a cake walk in that division. I caught an inning or two of yesterday's game and I was shocked at how empty the outfield seats were. I know the tickets were likely sold, but that team needs butts in the seats buying concessions.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) I thought he was always terrible in 1+ inning saves. Maybe you mean 3+ outs? Especially the next outing after a save attempt when he's been extended over multiple innings, it's almost always a disaster. yes, I meant 3+ outs, thanks for the catch. He's always been terrible at those if memory serves me correctly, so the K in the 8th was awesome, but I had a feeling that 9th was coming.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 11:27 PM) Eh, with our 1-2 combo, I'd rather not waste his bat with 2 out and nobody on. huh? Juan's OBP the last 28 days has been .392.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 11:27 PM) SATURDAY awesome, hadn't heard it, good news!

QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) I dont think his ego would let him do that. the likely reason since he probably would have done it already... the biggest thing he did was bring in/go to Marv Marenovich (sp?) for conditioning, that has paid off in the past but wasn't enough. I watched the fight with friends who are pro MMA fighters and trainers, the guy who specializes in stand-up said he thought Edgar was too fast/too much movement on his feet and it really stymies BJ.
-
Bobby has always been terrible with 3+ inning saves, stick with Bobby at this point... any word on Thorton? I know he was retroactive, so he should be eligible this week. Any chance of seeing him soon or does he need more time?
-
after the runner stranding fiasco of tonight, I can't wait to see Manny in that line-up
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 29, 2010 -> 07:02 PM) Edgar matches up perfectly against Penn. Until BJ realizes he cant win the stand up, he will never beat Edgar. He is a bully in the cage in the sense that once things dont go his way early, he mentally just checks out. If he is serious about being the champ again, he needs to surround himself with some better coaches. He and his corner made zero adjustments last night and looked totally lost. He really needs to go to a bigger camp to prepare for fights. He has too many yes men around him.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) Rosenthal saying Dodgers placed Lilly on waivers today, is it the ultimate WHITE FLAG for them? Makes sense, they could likely get a decent deal for him by whatever team claims him or just hold on to him
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) That's what you think. The rumors of its demise are greatly exaggerated. lol, if they end up getting him I would not be shocked if Kotsay is in there against some RHers, would hate it, but not be shocked
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) So the White Sox are going to add a guy who has hair that violates team rules from what I read. And they are going to have a guy on the team who used roids on a day we are honoring Big Hurt. Mockery. White Sox had juicers on the '05 team, "mockery" at this point associated with MLB and PEDs is too strong of a word IMO...
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) I know, I know, I'm a sellout to laundry too...but I still claim the right to be bothered by this and to chant Steroids whenever he's up. I know the position you're in Balta, I've kind of leaned towards the "it was so crazy of an era '05 team had juicers on it at least the org made an effort to be vocal about it" side. Once Manny, Ortiz and A-rod were popped it was done as far as the media went because they have to protect the Red Sox championships and NYY now. Also, major media just gave themselves a free pass with the "how could we have known?" mantra that is complete B.S. It sucks that it happened I agree, just hope testing is increased as we go forward
