  1. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) I watched this live last night and my girlfriend and I both had the type of reaction that most have at brutal scenes of a horror movie. It looked extremely painful. Initial reports are that it's not as bad as it looks, which is good because looked like his knee bent backwards, but I'd imagine Santana will atleast see the 15 day DL, which is a shame because he's a hell of a ball player (and my fantasy baseball catcher). It was up there with the Willis McGhee (sp?) leg injury in the BCS Championship Game years ago, it was gruesome.
  2. QUOTE (rafacosta @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) This is supposed to be in green right?! it had to be run through an ESPN filter at least!
  3. it has to be somewhat legit because if memory serves me right MLB does police the DL a little and don't let teams abuse it
  4. QUOTE (RudyLawRules @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) So let's say he gets claimed, the Nats will either pull him back or make a lesser deal than they could've made with KW. Does that make any sense? Does Rizoo actually think he'll get some lopsided trade or is he just kicking the tires? Stay tuned... there's really no harm in putting him on waivers and the upside is the NL team that claims him decides they can't live without him and give up something Rizzo really wants.
  5. he's 21, 2 years in this country, a year in a half in pro baseball and 1/2 a year in MLB, I think I will give him time to gain a little discipline at the plate and still be excited about him at this point.
  6. Awesome win, especially starting the stretch they are in with number of games coming up. Great job MB to go deep and only have to use Linebrink.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) I don't believe they'd buy out Zambrainless for a second. If they are planning on it I don't understand why they wouldn't start him for the rest of the season, if he continues to suck, oh well, they were releasing him anyway, best case is he gets something back and a team would be willing to take a little of the money.
  8. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) Brett Favre retiring . . . again? Best thing that has happened to the Bears since acquiring Jay Cutler. I have a feeling this is just the start of 2 weeks of ridiculousness
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) A few numbers out there to go behind the talk of a page or two ago about how the team lost value almost automatically when Ricketts bought it. Heard on ESPN 1000 today that he paid 840m for the club and now it's worth 740m, so a 100m loss in value which is about 11.9%. Also heard he has to pay 30m a year on his loans for the team not to mention the money they have to dump into the shrine every year to keep it maintained... it obviously has a chance to turn around, but it's going to be a little bit to navigate through this period and a safe assumption to make that their cash flow is severely restricted sorry I didn't include in this original post, but the team value source is Forbes magazine from the radio and the 30m number is also from the radio, I was driving a week or two ago and didn't get to write down exactly, but I think it was Spiegel on the MacNeil show.

  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) Not to mention that we'd be relying on Harrell as our #5 in a tight division race. Moving Jackson at this point would be a mistake, IMO. it would likely be Torres, but yeah, still the same idea
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) i dont see how this is relevant to what the Sox are doing. they added a very injury prone reliever, who cares? and one who isn't exactly dazzling when he can be duct taped and put on a mound
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Anyone buying what Rosenthal is saying about Rizzo has not talked about a Dunn deal is "days"?? I really don't. I don't, because even if he was 99% against trading him, why wouldn't you take calls about it
  14. ah, OK, well, that's a hefty price tag for 2 months
  15. off topic, but with this Rangers bankruptcy mess, I think deferred money will be overhauled
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) If the Sox picked up Manny on waivers, I think the Sox assume every liability on that contract from that point forwards. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure I'm not. forward yes, but I don't think they wouldn't assume the retroactive deferred money
  17. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) olney: Heard this: Already, a whole lot of speculation among rival FO about whether the White Sox will place a waiver claim on Manny in Aug.#trades question is would Minny do it if they're still in 2nd to block?
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) Rosenthall, sorry. no it's cool, fast and furious times!
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) #WhiteSox still working on Dunn. Would be Jackson-plus. Source: "This thing is far from over." i'm not saying this to imply this deal gets done, but I wouldn't be shocked if Rizzo made this call
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) #WhiteSox still working on Dunn. Would be Jackson-plus. Source: "This thing is far from over." where's this from JCM?
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) I really feel like this is all scripted to go down to the last minute. Don't know who well get but I truly cannot see KW going home empty handed. With The Club, he'll do something I'm telling ya. there's also waivers, so if he can't pull something off in 50 minutes he'll be busy
  22. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Honestly, I'd offer Morel for Dunn before I give up Day. I have a feeling if the Nats would accept that to this point, Dunn would be on a plane
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) It's both. The BB will come in time, part of that though is he needs the pitchers to be afraid enough of him to stay the Hell out of the zone (Vlad style). I've been pleasantly surprised by his lack of wild swings, I thought he would be Juan up there, he has laid off some good breaking balls in his limited ABs
  24. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:48 PM) I will be sad if we have to give up Viciedo for a rental. I'd rather just install him as DH and say screw it. I agree with you, but KW would literally have to cut Kotsay for that to happen
  25. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) You're implying that the Nationals are flat broke. They already have a cheap roster and Rizzo is going to be a GM that looks outside FA for the most part to fill out his roster. That means draft and international prospects. Now if the rumors are true, he is being a dbag about it. no, I'm not implying that at all... I'm asking how much the draft picks would cost... every team, barring the NYY and Bos are budget minded. I would think some teams would rather take guys who played in proball than spend money on a HS or college kid.
