  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Niemi's arbitration number came in at $2.75 million. Hawks may have to make a minor move, but I think thats very doable. Sounds like the Finnish Fortress may be around for one more season. Yeah, yesterday the Score's Hawk guy said up to $2.8 was realistic and even up to 3m was possible.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:30 PM) Well, they've got 90 minutes to decide their finances. MLB reporters seem to think he will clear waivers.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) *searches Netflix streaming* link it is also a legit movie, not some rogue movie, it got a lot of critical acclaim.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) Can't say I've heard of it, no. there's a little longer title for it, but if you google that with "steroids" it should be easy to find, it's a documentary about steroids and it's very neutral, I think you would find it interesting.
  5. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) A little more from Carroll and the link: The Cost: The White Sox were one of the few teams to be well below the league average in 2009, losing only $3 million due to injury. Chicago has consistently been one of the more successful teams in the dollars lost category; losing $19.7 million over the last three years. The vast majority of last year's injury cost came from the 48 days that Chicago's prized 2009 additon, Jake Peavy, was on the disabled list. Peavy's 2009 count for the Sox was $2.1 million. Chicago brought in the huge contracts of Peavy and Alex Rios last season, and it's not too hard to think that the training staff's strong work the last few years allowed them to absorb the extra $116 million. The Sox saved nearly $11 million dollars compared to the rest of the league, and they spent the money this offseason by giving Mark Teahen and J.J. Putz a combined $17 million. Whether that money has been well-spent can be debated, but the training staff sure has allowed them to be able to spend the money. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=10137 great stuff, Herm and his guys do an awesome job, even though there's no real solid reports of how bad they were, we might have to give them credit for Konerko's hip and to this point, Gavin's as well.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) At least hopefully...Thome didn't have the "20 years of juicing" issue to deal with. I'm not asking this to argue or agree with you, just since you are passionate about juicers, have you seen "Bigger, Faster, Stronger"?
  7. QUOTE (The Beast @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:12 PM) Who was the other guy? I can't even come close to even hinting at my source on it so I can't say.
  8. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) Jermaine Dye. The work that the staff did with Thome to get as much out of him they did on a regular basis was incredible too, I know he had a few injuries, but Thome and the staff worked so hard to get him out there as much as they did.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Didn't the same thing happen in Washington with them sitting out trading Soriano before? Can't remember exactly what was the situation...I guess Bowden was the GM then, right? Yeah, there were rumors all around about Soriano, I believe KW was in on it, and they sat on him, I believe they got draft compensation for him, but not sure what that turned into
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:01 PM) I have a feeling you're underestimating how crazy Rizzo is. lol, that's true, he definitely is coming off like that
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) I'm good with it...anything would be an upgrade over seeing Kotsay. I just hope we don't trade Viciedo. I have a feeling the Sox would have Dunn right now if KW was intent on doing that
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) i personally think its naive to think that there havent been plenty and plenty of juicers that have played for the sox over the last 10 years.... the steroids thing is a non-issue for me, as I believe just about every player (or at least 90%) have at least experimented with stuff at some point...i agree 100% that manny is a risk because of injury and age, and maybe the roids have something to do with it as well. However, im not gonna not want him on the sox just cuz he got caught with roids. Isn't Jurassic a confirmed juicer? Also, I'm going to be cryptic, and I've IM'd a mod the name before, but there was at least one other juicer on the 05 team
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) Give the Dodgers Morel in the deal, but no one better than that. depends how they internally scout Flowers at this point, I know he has had a strong 2 months or so lately though
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Frankly, I don't want a juicer on my team. That said...he's not going to play the rest of the season without at least 1 more DL trip and we shouldn't pretend otherwise. There's a legit chance he comes back out, runs the bases any day, and then misses the rest of the season because of it. The Sox have had juicers on their team, both known and unknown to the public
  15. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) Pretty sure Manny would want to come here. I would tend to agree, but it is something that might come up
  16. Kostsay is terrible, basically anything would be an upgrade to him at this point, using a basic stat of OPS+ an average hitter would be 26% better than Kotsay.
  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) Since when do we have money? since JR said we did before the season and again in an interview a month or two ago, they weren't just going to spend it to spend it, waiting for the player they wanted.
  18. Thanks for the response guys, just walked into it and that's the first thing I saw
  19. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 11:33 AM) yahoo's brown: Manny market heating up. Sources: Three teams have called Dodgers about him -- White Sox, Rays and mystery club. Dodgers are considering. thank you, that still answers that it's ongoing!
  20. FSN.com has an article that this is dead, is there a source saying it's still ongoing?
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:28 PM) Expect to see a nice rant from we as well. So you're going to go on a rant and spew venom at KW and the org about a subject where we will NEVER have the full info about? What if a significant bat without an NTC isn't moved? Maybe there really weren't any out at the deadline. What if teams only wanted Gordon, Q and Dayan off the White Sox roster? To me it's a bit of an easy argument to trump Hudson as some super-prospect that KW got under value for since nobody knows how other teams truly viewed him, so there's no tangible evidence to block that argument, but people get to run with it and state it like it's fact. It's like with the other moves, ie, Haren, Sox didn't get him, neither did the NYY or other teams who wanted him, so who knows how the D'Backs scouted the Angels players they got or what that process was like and what happened during the whole process, but KW didn't get him so that is that. Do I want to see the Sox upgrade before mid afternoon today? Absolutely, if Kotsay is still on this roster Ozzie will unfortunately use him a lot over a promising young hitter in Dayan who honestly can't do any worse. However, what I won't is doubt that KW and the Sox org. tried their hardest with the resources they had, which a Yahoo! reporter on B & B said the Sox and NYY are really the only teams out there willing to take money on, to improve this team. Maybe you don't like Edwin Jackson and you point to spreadsheets that say it will cripple the franchise next year, but KW and JR made the move and I think they have a little better knowledge of the White Sox business than ANYBODY on this board or in the media. I have a strong feeling knew damn well when he got E Jax that there was a good chance he would be on this team this year, I don't think he got "played" or whatever some people want to label it. One thing I will agree with is that this team needs an upgrade in their farm system, it seemingly is thin, and even if it continues to be just a breeding ground for KW trades it apparently needs to be stronger, but Mitchell getting hurt, and 1 or 2 other injuries/illness, from my understanding, made it thinner. Obviously this is a fun board and I don't mean my own rant to rip on other people here, I enjoy reading most posters, even when I don't agree with them, just think that KW and the org get a lot of hate on here for things that we will never know even close to the full story about.
  22. Hawk and Stone went out of their way to praise Dayan tonight, I think they agree with you!
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:53 PM) I wonder if KW even checks with Oz or Jerry before making trades or if it's all on him. Probably all on him. i think unless it's a payroll addition that hasn't been sanctioned it's all on KW
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:49 PM) Ahh, I see....well, I guess it is all up for interpretation....it sounded like it would be a guy that is not exactly performing up to par to me though....because Cowley seemed to hesitate when describing the possible addition as not necessarily a huge producer, but more of a WOW, what is this? did Cowley seem like he knew the name or is he just hearing this from his sources without names attached? because with Berkman seemingly done to NYY, KW might be leaking stuff so Nats don't think it's Dunn or bust, wouldn't be shocked if we hear a few more names attached to the Sox tossed around tonight.
