  1. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) That's just my interpretation of what he said, I have no idea of course. I agree with you about Cowley's wording, he made it sound like it would be a name casual fans would be familiar with, I would be over the moon for Kemp, but Manny would "shock" people more
  2. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) I just noticed he only has 8hrs this year...hurt that much? I believe it was his calf, hurt it came back and reinjured it
  3. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) I'd bleep myself if we got Kemp. How is he doing this year? http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/kempma01.shtml OK, would be better than Kotsay, but again that's not saying much.
  4. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) Who's a power hitter with a shaky future contract situation that nobody has brought up in trade talks? Manny, not saying I think it would be a great move, but RH and would cause a media stir
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) Has Cowley confirmed Kenny still working on this 'big' deal? I can't imagine this deal being Dunn (done?) lol. people were saying he was on the Score about 1/2 hour ago saying yes, he's still working on it and his twitter said don't confuse silence with inactivity
  6. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) A world shocker that hasn't been mentioned doesn't come to mind. If it's a lefty power bat, I'm at a loss for whom it may be. it could also be a RHB with decent splits, Kotsay is terrible, like 74 ops+ terrible, so if the guy is right handed but good, it's an upgrade
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Love to listen to him talk about football. Very knowledgeable. Hate to listen to him talk about baseball. Completely clueless but acts like he knows what he's talking about. I actually like Bernstein, both his on air character and I've met him in social settings a few times, but you are right about baseball... to me it's like he learned about Sabermetrics in the last 2 years or so and tries to apply the numbers to everything and it's the final answer.
  8. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) True, but it's not unheard of. Kenny did this a few years ago with the Rangers (McCarthy for Danks). it comes down to internal scouting, Rangers must have not liked Danks or at least thought he didn't fit their org for some reason and same with McCarthy
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:27 PM) It wasn't a personal shot at you. It's just an unrealistic dream. Whoever brought that up pulled it out their ass. Other than John Danks or Beckham, we don't have a thing in our organization that could net us Ethier. ah OK, you're a good poster man, just wanted to let you know that crazy names were being floated
  10. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Originally when Cowley said Kenny is working on a 'world shocker' we were throwing out names that would really 'shock the world' take it with a grain of salt, and this isn't meant to you bud, just overall. yeah, no I agree, I got chastised by J4L for mentioning Ethier, I'm just reacting to it and that's why I put the thing at the end where it said "who knows" I'm all for wild speculation, it's part of the fun of being on an internet board
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) A lot of people on this board who look at numbers, study minor leaguers were all excited over Hudson a few weeks ago. I thought he looked pretty good on the mound as I wasn't expecting a rookie to dominate right away. Now we are saying maybe he just wasn't that good? Well he was our top prospect and all we could do with him was trade him for a salary dump?? Weird. how do I word this in a way as to not offend anybody... ok, here it goes... It's great that people on this site and other sites follow and scout the minor leagues, but it is such an inexact science that for a vast majority of the players scouting evaluations can be all over the place... many things could have happened, the Sox were purposely overtauting him knowing they were going to trade him or this last stint confirmed some concerns they had about him.
  12. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Heard it maybe A-Gon. boy, tough sell on that one IMO, Pads have little to no offense and would leave them with little left... who knows though, Cowley was being mysterious!!
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Ethier? lol. That's not happening. thanks for the LOL baseball guru, just killing time and throwing names out, and it was one I didn't even bring up initially.
  14. well, this thread is long enough and all over the place, so mods, any objection with playing the "guess who Cowley is talking about game"? Somebody mentioned Ethier earlier, good choice, I'll go with a little bit of an underwhelming name since he's RH, but Uggla.
  15. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:14 PM) He is currently yakking on B&B about all this. thanks!
  16. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Cowley was just saying the Big deal KW is working on is still going and its supposedly for someone noone is talking about.. no idea who it could be. again, not that I don't believe posters when they post things, but source? His twitter last said "don't confuse quite with inactivity"
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) How do the Yankees have this power over teams? Why couldn't we get salary dump Jackson w/out giving up our No. 1 pitching prospect? f***. possibly because teams around the league don't regard Hudson very highly? I have no idea how other teams rate him, but just because he's #1 in a bad system doesn't make him worth more than 5-10 in strong systems.
  18. if callers are calling in and throwing around the idea that the White Sox screwed up in not retaining Lee than any host has a right to snap. First, I like Carlos, he has been a good hitter in his career, but the White Sox don't win the WS with him IMO, and I'm not a huge Pods fan either... beyond that, look at the crazy long-term deal he got, Sox got out of the Carlos Lee business at the right time.
  19. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Just trying to inform other people in what he was saying just in case they don't have the ability to watch the interview. Those were Rizzos words not mine. that's fine, not attacking you or you posting it, just giving my interpretation of them.
  20. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) It's unfortunate that they have zero interest in Morel with Zimmerman. some people tend to think he projects at 2b, you're a prospect guy, agree?
  21. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:56 PM) His hands are not tied with Dunns contract, loves the guy and doesn't need to trade him and can hold out for a good package. Great clubhouse guy, fans love him. 3-4 teams have serious interest in him. Per Rizzo on MLb trade deadline special. yeah, anything short of him saying "we are absolutely not trading Dunn" from Rizzo means very little 22 hours away from the deadline, even that I would take with a slight grain of salt.
  22. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Ken_Rosenthal deal of their liking. #Rays can't be sure Dunn will succeed as DH after failed expriment w Burrell. #Nationals might be stuck. #Yankees #MLB 4 minutes ago Ken_Rosenthal Berkman to #Yankees could put #Nationals in bind with Dunn. Nats lose big potential suitor. #WhiteSox can hold out for (MORE) #Rays #MLB if Rays have option to get Dunn and they don't because of Burrel's failure I would be shocked, but hey, if that's so works for the White Sox
  23. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) And that would just be a dumbass way of approaching things. If you want to take on Jackson as a project, you wait until the offseason, when you have time to work with him. Not in the middle of a playoff run where he offers just as many question marks as the guy you traded. unless you obtained him with the chance he could get moved in a Dunn trade. That way if he stays you have the project aspect of it if not you got the bat you wanted.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) Great. A disaster of a deadline. it's 3pm tomorrow, and what's Rizzo suppose to say "Hey, GMs, we're cutting Dunn's price right now!" He's probably at the stadium and getting asked by reporters, much like I expect KWs press conference to go....... "We are thrilled to have Jackson on our team, we've had him on our radar for a long time. Nothing is done right now but I'll leave my options open until the deadline and I'm always trying to improve the team."
  25. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) Anyone worried that since his 150 pitch no-hitter Jackson's gotten rocked every time out? I'm not going to treat pitch counts like the end all, but that's a lot of pitches. Reminds me of the time when Dusty or Felipe Alou had Jason Schmidt throw 140+ pitches to get a win only to have him be ineffective for the rest of the season and require surgery later that year. his FB has been clocked exactly the same, but I know that doesn't mean it hasn't effected is breaking stuff in some way.
