  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) If most of the media reports are true, it sounds like KW was going all out for Dunn, even over Fielder. I'm going to be extremely pissed if KW got played by the Nats. except nobody really knows how serious Milwaukee is about moving him this season as opposed to the offseason where they could let a team negotiate an extension thus making him potentially more valuable or what Milwaukee would have wanted, possibly Milwaukee said 2 out of Hudson, Beckham and Viciedo and no window to talk extension... Also "played" that came up with the Bulls a lot during FA and it makes no sense, to me it's insulting to the White Sox, JR and KW... They have a clue about what other teams are doing and they've done to other teams in the past, that makes it sound like they're ignorant a-holes who have no idea how to run a MLB franchise.
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) So the Yankees lineup would look something like Jeter/Swisher/Teixeira/ARod/Cano/Berkman/Posada/Granderson/Gardner. Yikes if the Sox face them in the playoffs would make Danks and MB huge because Berkman is flat out terrible against lefties this year
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) Not the blockbuster we were led to believe though. doesn't mean KW didn't work his ass off to make it happen
  4. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) Nooooooo.... JimBowdenXMFOX RotoWorld reports that the Tigers and White Sox are discussing a Brad Hawpe deal with the Rockies.... well he'd be an upgrade to Kotsay
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) And then he is still the pitcher that 4 teams have traded since 2008 and comes with a big salary. pitching market is always thin, if he pitches well for the Sox in his 2 months here, if he's here, I have little doubt the Sox would have trouble finding a spot for him.
  6. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) KW presser at 4:30 per the Score. well that's interesting, watch the line-ups until then I guess, surprised he would have a press conference before the deadline, even if Dunn isn't happening I don't expect him to come out and say "this is the team, no other trades" with an evening left before the deadline.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) I will say this...this trade has produced 2 very odd groupings of people who agree/disagree with it. my position is "I don't know, even if Jackson doesn't get moved." I think my reaction seemingly falling into the "agree" camp is the fact that basically many posters are saying if we don't hate the trade we don't know anything about how to run a MLB club when I'm saying I'm giving KW the benefit of the doubt
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:51 PM) lol Adam.... "I like their uniforms," Dunn said. "I like black." he's talking pretty openly about it, I wonder if the front office has mentioned something to him
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Right, keep trading him until he makes his way around the league. If he doesnt turn it around his value will be next to nothing with that salary he has next season. unless he pitches well in his 10 or whatever starts with the Sox
  10. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) With regards to that I would hope the Sox would have more foresight towards next years roster, but if this contract does come back and cripple them then yes you are all right. They are high well there's also the chance he thrives with the Sox and 8.5 is a reasonable price for him
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Sounds like Yankees are going to get either Dunn or Berkman. And as for Jackson, what scares me is that he had a dead arm to start the year, and now he has another dead arm. not that I don't believe you, I am just working on a research project and monitoring this stuff, so could you please post sources... Gammons was the last about NYY, but other sources have said NYY are out of it.
  12. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) Or he was traded because the Nats suck and Guzman is going to be a free agent. and Kinsler pulled his groin muscle and that's an injury that can linger and linger, especially if they play a team in October that is in cold weather
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) I can't imagine there is any possible way that KW will trade away John Danks for cheap prospecty players during a pennant race. That'd be worse than the White Flag deal; at least then we weren't already in first place. I didn't mean today, I meant in the offseason
  14. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) the people who like the hudson deal cant seem to figure out that payroll actually is a major factor no, I'm smart enough to figure it out, I'm also factoring in that the trade deadline isn't here yet, so we're all speculating on what the Sox roster will look like and KW and JR are aware of what their budget is both this year and next year and they have done everything in their power to make this a team that competes every season, doesn't always work, but 2 out of the last 5 years they were in the playoffs in a division that has had other good teams and one of those years they won the WS, also, in the 6th year they are in 1st place on July 30th. It's not crazy that some of us have faith that they know what they're doing.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) Payroll for the next year? In the starting rotation I have: MB, Danks, Peavy, Gavin That means the Sox only need 1 SP. The difference in price between a Garcia type veteran and Hudson is roughly $1-2mil. Thats not exactly crippling. What doesnt make sense is adding Jackson's salary, but that is why I think there is something else going on. there's also the very realistic situation where the White Sox make one more effort to sign Danks to an extension, it doesn't happen and they move him, in the offseason he could get a ton.... wouldn't like it, but it could happen
  16. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Stone says that Washington views Jackson as a closer. they can view him as a bat boy, as long as the Sox can trade him for Dunn
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) I flipped back a couple hundred posts and I didn't see this comparison so I'm going to make it. Trading: A young, barely to the big leagues starting pitcher who's under your control for 6+ years for an older, expensive, pitcher with a good fastball who pencils in at best at the tail end of your rotation at best and who is struggling like Hell in a weaker league, and who may well be worse than the young guy not only next season but even this season? Sound like the Victor Zambrano for Scott Kazmir deal to anyone else? If memory serves me right he was viewed nationally as a higher level prospect than Hudson, and also, FWIW Jackson has a very good year in the AL under his belt only last year
  18. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:57 AM) Yeah, it's in that linked story. They basically pay rent to themselves and they stock their own bars at the UC through the distributorship. Nice deal if you can get it, huh? ah OK, thanks, didn't click the link... yeah, so "Blackhawks lose money" is really just a paper loss because the Wirtz are likely making it back crazily with the increased attendance and the complete playoff run
  19. I don't think so, Dunn seems like he wants to be a FA
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) @BNightengale - #mlb White Sox have Edwin Jackson included in current trade package for Dunn. If Sox get Dunn, then will try to land Astros' Brett Myers hmmmm, sounds like Sox are OK if Jackson stays or they can get Dunn, wonder who their plan B is for a bat
  21. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) The fact that we didn't seek to get Laroche in the deal makes it clear to me Kenny intends to get a bat in the end game. I'd honestly be happier keeping Jackson (who put up a 3.62 ERA for the Tigers in 219 innings last year) and doing something else to pick up Scott or Berkman. i think that's a very good point, if KW was done he would have asked for Laroche, who likely wouldn't have come very expensive
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) That trade makes the Sox a lot better, but we don't need Jackson to get that done. true, but based on Cowley's tweets Hudson/Jackson is set and KW stalled because he was going after something bigger, could be Houston wants Hudson
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) Neither would be mega deals. We shouldn't have to give up a massive haul for Myers/Berkman. And who gives a crap about Kochman. if you put Berkman in against all RH starters and Jones against all LH starters it makes the White Sox order a lot better night in and night out, and Myers, for this year, is a far better option than Hudson.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) And everything, and I mean everything, I've heard/read suggests the exact opposite. The best example is him being in the first Peavy deal last year and then KW pulling his name out of the one that actuallyhappened Bernstein said this, so I did not hear it directly from Cooper, but he said Cooper had mentioned Hudson has a high maintenance mechanics, not meaning injury, but a lot of moving parts, maybe after seeing him more Cooper believes this even more and told KW
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 11:19 AM) I'd just like to note how much I hate giving the other team a really good shot to win this game when we're 1.5 games up on the Twins. yeah, but if he can throw strikes Sox might get the first time around the order benefit and Pena would come in with Bobby, Sergio and Thornton not pitching yesterday, then it's backed up with Danks/Floyd and a day off.
