  1. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) SI_JonHeyman jackson for dunn is still a possibility. but nationals want #chisox to add another player or 2 8 minutes ago who going to pitch? torres? Harrel? I would guess Torres, not that he's awesome, but I think the Sox would go with that, or see if someone passes through waivers.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Then why did they keep asking for Beckham. I don't think it was the final plan and the only one they would settle on, I heard it form a Nats beat reporter on the Score a few weeks ago when Dunn's name started being floated around.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Here's the list from last year. You'll note...some of the guys always wind up retiring or resigning with their original team, and a lot of guys (i.e. JD) don't get offered arbitration. I was thinking more along the lines of what it would cost to sign the actual draft picks the Nats would receive if Dunn signed elsewhere. I'm not sure if it's a lot and a team might want to be able to have scouted prospects in pro ball than sign two kids right out of HS or college for a decent chunk of change, but I'm not sure how much those picks actually would cost.
  4. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:37 PM) hahaha okay i guess they might. i didn't really think that through, i just thought they'd be pretty eager to get him off the books until theyve got a team worth building around what their plan is/was with Dunn is to get young pitching to bolster around Strausburg.
  5. Anyone know the average number that guys sign for where the two compensation picks would fall?
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) The Rangers got Cantu because Davis blows, they got GUZMAN because Kinsler is injured. lol, oh yes, I did confuse my Rangers moves, thanks Kalapse!
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) Yes he is. not hard to be better than Kotsay, but Cantu is only a 90 OPS+ this year... beside that, Rangers got him because Kinsler is on the DL with a groin, that's an injury that can linger or pop up again when Rangers plate late season games or playoffs in a cold weather stadium
  8. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Don't they have to offer him a deal/offer arb. to get that? They're not doing that. I think they would
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Buster_ESPN Heard this: The Nationals are still talking trade with several teams on Dunn, as we get closer to the deadline.#trades Not surprised, Rizzo might get someone to panic and meet his price or he was not blinking until 2:59.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) Not even worth thinking about those two teams when we've got the Twins right on our ass. Mauer is heating up and Morneau should be back soon. Aren't they like 13-3 since Bobby's epic choke? Nobody saw that coming (sarcasm). a good portion of that is against Os, KC and Ms. Not taking anything away from beating those teams because the Sox beefed up on those teams too, and during that stretch the Sox have lost about 2 games in the standings, again, against bottom feeding teams, but the Sox are beating them like good teams do. I still wouldn't trust Minny's pitching staff a great deal, even with Capps, apparently they agree to because they went hard after Lee and I'm sure other starters, they couldn't get it done either.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) Yankees got Kearns to face LHP. Berkman will not be facing LHP, and neither will Granderson. .762 against LH starters, about .100 better than Berkman, but not earth shattering against lefty starters.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) I dunno. That's a lot of money to pick up for a 1 month rental when we can't even crack 30K on a Friday night in July when we're in 1st place. JR has said it at least twice, once in ST and once about a month or two ago, that the Sox have money if there's an impact player, so I have no idea where it's coming from, but the Sox also own a quarter of a cable network and are in the third largest media market and the ad revenues from it help. Not saying attendance isn't important, but the market alone give the Sox some advantage over attendance than many other teams.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) But at the end of the day I don't think we have the roster to overtake NY or Tampa in the post season. all depends on how rotations stack up, with Danks, Floyd and MB and the pen ready to roll the Sox can beat anybody, especially in a 5 game, not favorites, but not ridiculous underdogs. Also, if they happen to face NYY MB and Danks help neutralize Berkman because he has been terrible against lefties this year.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) Thing is were were "crying" about it in March. But everything was going to be OK. Kw was going to upgrade at the deadline if we were in it. This was said about 47346438367347438944 times. I don't think anyone would have guaranteed that because we obviously don't have crystal balls, KW is trying to get better at the deadline, and honestly, this may not be popular, but I would rather have KW have the resources to go after the names that's been mentioned as aggressively as he has then have Damon or Matsui on this team... obviously they would be an upgrade to Kotsay, not much wouldn't be, but KW was/is looking for something bigger.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) I understand Fathom. But you see what is going on now. You guys are acting like two spoiled kids crying to their parents..."but YOU said we could go to the circus today!" They made a mistake. It's over. You move forward. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do right now considering how crazy Rizzo is acting. well there's also August and 1:45 left today. I know people block waivers, but a lot of good players also get through.
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) And that's why you don't go into a season with Mark Kotsay as your primary DH. well they could have gotten Johnny Damon if they really wanted to break the bank, and they're 1 1/2 in first right now with the complete disaster that is Mark Kotsay, they deserve no credit for that? As much as I wanted and like Damon as a player he would not make a significant impact like the three bats the Sox were talking about or someone they may get with that money in the next two hours or by the end of August. Again, I imagine if they want to move Dayan and Santos they could get a lot done right now, but then posters would complain they gave up too much. They haven't been perfect on all their roster decisions this year or any year, but absolutely no GM ever is. Putz was a hell of a signing, the work they've done with Santos and then trusting him to be a big arm in the pen has been terrific, the work with Rios and his output this season has been tremendous, for the money they're getting Omar and Andruw have contributed. Obviously can't hide Peavy's injury and the Teahen and Kotsay suckfest, but the team is still in 1st place and aggressively trying to get better.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) I'm not giving KW credit for being interesting and making things fun. You gotta get s*** done. And it's looking more and more like the only upgrade is a guy with an ERA over 5 and just overall mediocre pitcher. maybe before the non-waiver deadline, but it's not like he can't do anything after 3pm today. Also, look at the names he was in on, those are major impact bats, and seemingly a grand total of one is moving and that is a guy with a NTC. You don't get s*** done just to get s*** done, there has to be a point that you walk away from the table.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) Deadline is 3 or 4 Central time? 3
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:41 PM) Well the Hawks should be able to handle that for Niemi... I like it but I don't think it would have killed the Hawks if they had to walk away from him either. it's an unpopular opinion, but one I share with you.
  20. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) With multiple reports saying this is over looks like KW may have moved on and will check back later hopefuly. sounds like many think he'll clear waivers, so LAD might wait to see if they jump back in the race or fall out.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) This thread proves one thing: Nobody cares about steroid users aka 'cheaters' as long as they play for your team (outside of Balta). I really don't want Manny. then I don't know how you can like any MLB team, even the 05 White Sox, they had known and unknown to the public steroid users on it.
  22. the Angels scouts must be convinced Texas is do for a big swoon because they are 8 out with little shot at the WC and they are being aggressive as hell... I wonder if on Angelstalk.com their org is getting hits for trying to go for it?
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) At this point I think we're stuck with the dismal rotating DH debacle. there's over 2 hours left and the waiver process, I don't think KW will just kick his feet up now.
  24. There's also the waiver process, I don't see KW pulling a panic move at 2:55
  25. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) How motivated is Manny going to be if he has to go back to the Dodgers knowing they tried to trade him? My guess the Dodgers know they have to deal him for this reason. Sox or Rays. There are a few reports, one or two linked in this thread, that the Dodgers did not shop and are not shopping him, the White Sox called them and then a few other teams did, I have no doubt the LAD are pushing it out there that they did not try and shop him, but also, he is playing for a contract when he comes back.
