  1. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) The Nats are believed to have requested either Gordon Beckham or both Daniel Hudson and Dayan Viciedo in exchange for Dunn, tweets Heyman. That price was too high for the Sox, who told Beckham he wouldn't be on the move this week. Per mlbtr No thankyou with that cost, and I have been a Dunn advocate. Same with me, I love Dunn as an offensive player but that's way too much for 2 months
  2. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) Really? He's 27 and a physical beast. Unless he starts to get really banged up I don't see any reason to expect him to move from behind the plate within the next 5 or 6 years. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/367437-...-bad-in-the-end not saying he's Glass Joe, but he's been on the DL 6 times in his career (this article says 5 and I believe he was on once this year)
  3. sweet, Linebrink didn't even make it exciting! Love that Twins are on a streak and still couldn't wrestle first place or even a tie!
  4. QUOTE (Allsox @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:30 PM) Only 25500+ were in the house last night? Park looked more full than that, as does tonight's game. This weekend's attendance should boost the average up big time with some nice weather and a competitve team in the A's. that's what I thought too, I don't know if they're giving away packages or discounts that are not counting.
  5. Good move for the Twins, their pen has struggled. Still dodged major bullets that they didn't get Lee or Oswalt, I still think they need another starting arm, I know they've been OK lately but that was against the Os and KC.
  6. Just heard on the Score the Rays are the front-runners for Dunn with the Giants the only other team involved, NYY and White Sox are said to be out of it.
  7. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) I don't see how the cell is that different from wrigley in terms of HR given up or any park in the NL Central for that matter. You adapt to your home park. I think Lilly will be fine. I don't mean to be sarcastic or an a-hole, but I'm not sure what you don't understand... it's easier to hit HRs in the Cell than basically every other stadium in MLB.
  8. Miguel Tejada has been scratched from his game, where did he go? Never mind, teams mentioned aren't the Sox, I'll put in MLB catch-all
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Kotsay will not be sent down It will be Lilli or Viciedo most likely I wouldn't hate that, he would bat everyday then
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Assuming that Kotsay actually lost his at bats. I know it's Ozzie, so I'm not doubting it could happen, but if it did, KW and Jerry would have to release Kotsay at that point, because Ozzie would be making a tragically bad decision and one he shouldn't have the option to make.
  11. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) I'm guessing that the org would want to hang on to Flowers right now, especially with AJ's struggles this year. I haven't looked at AJs BABIP for this year vs. career, but aside from that, I don't think KW would let that stand in the way if he thought Berkman could be a significant difference maker and Flowers was the deal breaker
  12. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) Well, unless we take on all of his salary or something, I don't see what we could really offer Houston. Holmberg/Gilmore/Escobar? There is a 2.7 difference in their WAR's right now, Berkman at 1.9 on the season after a horrid start, and Kotsay at -0.8... I would imagine with Flowers having a far better 2 months in the minors he still has some value, I think Astros are in salary dump, so I would expect them to take very little.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) I dunno. His numbers have been declining the past 3 years. Would he really help much? His OPS+ this year is 117, Kotsay's is 74... with that simple number you would be getting a 43% better batter... it would be a world of difference.
  14. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) Heard we shifted our focus away from Dunn to Berkman. fine with me, Berkman will likely come cheaper prospect wise but a little more expensive in $$... would that signal the end for PK next year? Again though, that could be KW leaking that to send a message to the Nats.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:02 PM) 6 home games against Minny left. OK, well with the 13 against NYY, Minny and Bos, I say they'll end up around last years number then.
  16. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) I'm not sure what he brings except a more expensive version of Jim Thome. at this point in their careers he's a better/more expensive version of Thome and IMO exactly what the White Sox need, but I'd be OK with Luke Scott too
  17. too much depends on the weather to make a guess, but those 7 games against NYY and Red Sox are going to help a ton. How many against Minny left?
  18. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) The more I think about this the more I think.... please, no, please, no... no Dunn trade. for anything or for a deal with Hudson?
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:12 AM) Lilly really doesnt bother me too much. He is similar to Buehrle, and that isnt necessarily a bad thing to me. When he is off, sure he gets lit up. When he is on he is very good. 7 out of his last 12 games he has allowed 0 or 1 runs, thats not too shabby maybe similar styles, but MB is a better pitcher than Lilly is or ever was. Lilly is basically a poor mans MB and the stats support that. MB has about 50 more starts than Ted, so you have to use the advanced stats or adjust the standard stats a little, but MB has been a better pitcher, so using Lilly in the rotation means you risk having an MB type in his shaky starts more often than an MB in his good starts. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/buehrma01.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lillyte01.shtml
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) I'm sure they at least considered it plausible but even if they said so publicly, I seriously doubt they could have been that dumb about a Boras client. I'm pretty sure you can find posts of mine here from 2005-2006 predicting that Tex would become the Yankees 1b. He ust happened to hit the FA market the year that Giambi's deal expired. ah yes, I completely forgot about that, then you're right, they may have thought they had a chance, but with Boras they likely didn't factor in too much, not like Freddy and the Sox
  21. ESPN isn't a news org any more and shouldn't be treated as one... they have major money deals with MLB, NFL and the NBA, it's in their best interest to protect those brands. Outside of 30 for 30 they do nothing IMO that is remotely independent or objective (I will grant them their Ombudsman on .com, but if you're going to have that it has to be neutral by definition). I am actually impressed how the NFL network and MLB network have been far more objective about their own sports. (Although anytime MLBN wants to never schedule Eric Byrnes for their network is OK by me)
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:41 AM) Technically it was a year and a half of Teixeira, they dealt Tex away the middle of the next year because they were out of the race. They got Kotchman for him, who at the time still was looked at as promising after his power showed up briefly when he was first called up. Didn't they think they had an inside track on extending Tex because of his Georgia roots?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) A team with a big OF should give up more for him than a team like the Sox. He's a desperation level addition for the Sox. agreed, would be surprised if its the only move they make, but wouldn't be surprised if it is in conjunction with a Hudson move. Would make a ton of sense for the Dodgers IMO.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) Sure. Nobody saw them getting Haren. A little different IMO. Haren is locked up for a few years and they were 8.5 games out as of yesterday. The package the Nats want apparently is going to be a good one. Worst case scenario with Haren is he's in your rotation for awhile even if they don't get close this year. Dunn is riskier because you could give up a good package and not really contend this year. Granted you can get the two picks if he walks, but a rental vs. a top of the rotation pitcher on a reasonable contract is different IMO. Again, they could though, I haven't looked at a schedule but I imagine they have head to heads with Texas left and they could bank on the Texas August swoon
