QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) What are you hearing? check the tweets on the previous page, a few sources from twitter are posted

Rangers would basically be like him going to the NL until the playoffs, but the Sox would have to get there first... probably a lot of those NYY leaks were from the Mariners to force other teams hands. If the NYY don't get Lee or another front line pitcher I could see the Rays winning the div with NYY getting the WC

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) That is not, as you know, what I wrote. This team probably won't make the playoffs. They were dog s*** for 2 months then got hot. The Tigers and Twins are both contentedly mediocre. Our offense is and will remain atrocious. There are good things about the team, sure, but this is not a legitimate contender. And I think you and every other person who's going to be offended by my post in defense of Oswalt knows that. are they favorites if they make the playoffs? No, but if KW adds a slightly above average MLB bat and Gavin, Danks and MB with the pen are rolling in October they have a chance... does that make them "legitimate"? I don't know, but I would like to see them make the playoffs and see what happens. And I don't think I know what you are saying, I say make the playoffs and see what happens this year, they have a chance

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Brian Giles? yes, thank you

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) I'm not going to say I would rather have been traded to the Twins because that would just be stupid, in the perfect world he obviously would have been traded to the NL. Thing is, if we're going to win this year, we're going to have to go through the Yankees at some point, I'm about 90 percent sure of that now. Before this deal, if we added another bat I actually think we would have had a decent shot to knock them off if we got to the playoffs(they'd still be favored but I'd give us at least a solid shot), now we'd really be in some trouble if that matchup were to happen. And I'm obviously getting way ahead of myself but that's the way I'm looking at it right now. Yeah, I understand, NYY are going to be tough no matter what, but you can also argue, without looking at Lee and CC's splits, if KW is looking for the regular season and the playoffs they can now justify a RH bat as well

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Didn’t Griffey turn us down the a year or two before he said yes? it could have been 05, the infamous Hawk "Where would he play?" mantra, but again, it happens to a lot of teams, these guys put in NTCs for a reason and sacrifice things for them
-
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) Dude wants to win, but going to the White Sox is not a sufficiently good place to do that. If he wants to pitch for a lousy offensive team, he can just stay in Houston. Why would he uproot mid-season to play in a bandbox with a bunch of guys who can't hit? 1/2 game out of first with Lee not going to Minnesota and the White Sox have one of the most creative and aggressive GMs in all of baseball making the playoffs 2 of the last 5 full years including a WS win, and he's on the Astros.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) And it seems like a lot of players in recent years with a NTC have turned us down. Is our management/coaching not respected around the league? Schilling and Peavy, which Jake eventually accepted, he also turned down the Tigers this time.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Honestly, I think we need to realize that these guys are human beings too...maybe the guys doesn't want to move here...I don't understand why sports fans take this so personally sometimes... my feeling too, players give up money to get NTC often, so it's their choice, it happens to a lot of teams, his name is completely slipping my mind right now, but left handed bat who began with Cleveland and had a good career with San Diego and his brother played in the majors, he turned down a deal to the Red Sox a few years ago, I believe their 2nd title, it happens
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) If you believed the Sox could compete for the pennant, this certainly hurts those chances. White Sox have to win their division first, this helps that a lot because he's not going to Minny and he won't be there when the Sox play Seattle this year in Seattle. Also, the Yankees pitchers are going to have a s*** ton of innings pitched when October rolls around and their pen outside mariano isn't very good, so the starters are going to have to pitch 7-8 a lot... are they the favorites? sure, but as I said earlier, it's July 9th, I'm glad he's not going to Minn and worry about him in October if they get there

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 11:04 AM) http://twitter.com/BloggingBombers/status/18128556417 Hey let's get Javy back! if this was any other team than the NYY that question makes sense, but he'll they could DFA Javy and it doesn't hurt their bottom line... anyway, some NL team should want him for the stretch and I know you're joking, but if NYY eat a vast majority of his money and it costs low level prospects, as a 4th or 5th starter innings eater, I'll take him. Check out Hughes splits, he's been very bad lately and MLB is taking away the extra days rest that allowed the NYY to set up their rotation perfectly
-
baseball playoffs can be goofy things J4L, it obviously makes a strong team stronger, but it also gives the White Sox a better shot at making the playoffs, so I'll take it for now. IMO the NYY also need another pen arm, MLBN showed their pen stats outside of Mariano and they are bad, CC and some of the other pitchers are going to have logged a ton of innings over the last two seasons by the time October rolls around... are they the favs? Absolutely, but things happen in October. Clemens, Pettite and Oswalt were suppose to dominate the White Sox and the Sox weren't suppose to get there because of the way the Angels had dominated us in the past or Pappi and Manny were going to own us in a 5 game series. Again, it's not the Twins, on July 9th that's what I'm worried about, if as a Sox fan I have to worry about Lee on the NYY in October that's a good thing.
-
Obviously would love him in the NL, but worse case scenario is him with the Twins or Tigers. This would obviously make a strong team stronger, but if it's something as a Sox fan I have to worry about in the playoffs, I'll take it.

Si.com links a tribune blurb that the Cubs plan on starting to dump salaries except it completely ignores the fact that all their big contracts are basically unmovable, it writes it as if people are beating down the doors to get the players and the owners are going to let it happen. Soriano and Zambrano are ridiculous contracts AND they both have NTCs, so those are virtually impossible to move unless it's for like 30 cents on the dollar. A-Ram is unmovable unless he does a complete 180 in the next 3 weeks, Fukudome would have no interest, again unless it's for like 50 cents on the dollar. I could see a team wanting Lilly, he would be a good starter for a contending team, but not a top of the rotation guy.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) Can I just say this thread has been amazing for over a week now, and I want to thank everyone involved with it....except for shack, HOW DARE YOU YELL AT ME! You know my wife is giving me hell as it is I agree, it was a real fun thread with a lot of great back and forth

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:57 PM) Charles Oakley lol, he's getting a little long in the tooth, he would only be able to punch like 3-4 people with camera phones leaving many to go free!

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) The hour-long televised "decision" was ridiculous. How could anyone have thought that was a good idea. It's funny, I get the impression that Lebron is actually a better dude off the court than Jordan ever was and yet you never saw Jordan's PR team make a mis-step like that. Lebron should hire whomever ran interference for Jordan. even though it's only a little over 10 years since Jordan left the Bulls and the championship run, media has changed so much since then, it's impossible to have that type of protection again IMO
-
QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) He had to know this was going to happen or he is really dumb. I would replace "dumb" with naive and sheltered, I think he had enough people in his ear telling him that no matter what he opts to do he will be loved by the public.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:47 PM) I like what Gilbert did. I guess Im a meathead, but I think Gilbert did exactly what his franchise needed, they called a spade a spade. What good would it have done to say: "We thank Lebron fror all of the great years, we regret that he made the decision that he did, but unfortunately people do need to move on. I understand Cleveland was a great place for Lebron to start, but some times you need to leave home. Hopefully when Lebron comes back to Cleveland the fans will give him the round of applause he deserves." Screw that, if Lebron didnt have the decency to tell Gilbert and only told the Heat, thats shameful. Lebron should have been a man and made a call, no excuse for that. And because of that he deserves no respect from Gilbert, none at all. Its cowardly. Im a meathead though so cant take my opinion. (First time ive ever been called that so im kind of reveling in my own glory) lol, I should have phrased that better, I don't think if someone thought it was right that they are automatically a meathead, I don't consider myself one and I actually enjoyed it. You have to have a big ego to make it big in business, he got chumped for at least a week and really the last few years by a 25 year old, let him vent.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) About 90 minutes ago, I said I'd love to see a tell-all from a pissed off Cleveland org member It will happen, it won't be like MJ where the Chicago media felt the need to protect him, there's money in bashing James right now and people will be falling out of the woodwork with true, and unfortunately untrue and inflated stories.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) wow, not only did he lose his franchise tonight, but he lost his dignity well, like it or not he is going to get a lot of "meatball" support from it and they make up a good portion of the sports watching public.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) Perry Jones Thanks, I just ask because during the DePaul thing B & B said he had a chance to be a top 5 pick if the one and done rule didn't exist, but have no idea if that was valid or not
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) Sullinger is going to be a monster in college but it will be interesting to see how his game translates to the NBA. Good not great athlete who is doesn't have great height for an NBA PF. I really wish Stern would have stopped dumping money into the WNBA years ago and set up a legit NBDL many years ago and we can stop with this one and done nonsense
-
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) From an NBA standpoint probably Kyrie Irving, Josh Selby and Harrison Barnes. I've only seen Kanter from Kentucky play once but that kid was a beast in the USA v. World game and took it to Sullinger, Patric Young and the rest of the USA bigs. i don't really see a superstar NBA player in that group though. is one of those guys the Baylor guy?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) Next year's draft is going to be terrible who are the top freshmen coming in to even keep an eye on? wasn't there a guy that's going to Baylor that DePaul people actually thought they had a chance to transfer if they got the Baylor coach? Some stud center?
