QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) He was too much to give up, considering AZ was selling anyway. nobody outside the White Sox and other MLB front offices know how Daniel Hudson was valued at.

the comments after the loss in the game thread

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 01:13 AM) No offense but I get really bored with these threads/series of posts that seem to come weekly. that's fair, all of us have different takes on this team and this season, but also understand for many of us the overwhelming negativity about this season gets boring for a lot of us too. This team played one of their worse offensive games in weeks last night, it happens, until it becomes a trend again I'm not going to freak out about it. I was actually happy that Ozzie saved the pen and didn't try and do anything stupid tonight since they have a long stretch coming up without a day off. A baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint. Until that Minnesota pitching staff, especially the bullpen, starts to show signs of trending towards stabilizing I don't see how they run away with this division, it's going to be a close race to the end and nights like last night are going to happen for both the Sox and Twins. Liriano pitched last night against a rookie, granted one who as 2-0, but still a rookie and the Twins lost. Also, Danks numbers ended up being good last night, but honestly, he got away with a few bad pitches that either the Os just missed or completely whiffed on, so it's not like he had his best stuff last night, but baseball being baseball and the Os being bad, it was good enough to keep the Sox in the game. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:06 AM) Yeah as long as the Twins lose I can't find myself upset. And it's not like the Twins lost to a good team either. There are going to be losses where the offense doesn't show up. Of course I will be upset if they can't take three games in this series. 3 out of 4 would be great, but I could live with 2-2, a 5-3 road trip with 8 games in 7 days is acceptable to me. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 06:14 AM) Yeah, Manny has a full NTC. depending on whether you believe certain sources, he basically said he'll only play for the White Sox, so that's a start, but are there any options or anything that he might want picked up or bought out at a higher rate or is it just this year and the contract is done?

QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) I never cared for Sonnen until this fight. The guy is funny as f***. I would love to see him win but I think it might be best for the UFC that Silva retains. Meltzer is saying he's heard Silva is pissed and is going to try and kill him, basically exactly what Dana wanted to happen
-
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Have you guys seen all the pre-fight hype Chael Sonnen has been providing? He's hilarious. That said, Anderson should win with relative ease. Yeah, he is selling the hell out of the fight, good for him, wouldn't be surprised if Zuffa offered him a bonus if he could bump Andersons usual mediocre PPV numbers. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's card.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) If we wait until next month we may be 3 or 4 games back. unless Ozzie only uses JJ during the day, because Jenks has been effective in night games

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2010&t=p Sorry if these have been posted, I scanned back about 3 pages and didn't seem them, they're about 2/3 down the link, Bobby's Day/Night splits... Day: Games: 19, with 16.2 innings; ERA of 9.18; WHIP of 1.92; OPS against of .882; tOPS against of 146 with a sOPS against of 141 and 9 saves Night: Games: 25, with 23.2 innings; ERA of 2.28; WHIP of 1.14; OPS against of .572; tOPS against of 60 with a sOPS against of 57 and 14 saves. I don't see the blown save stats on the table, but I could just be missing it, but I know yesterdays and the Sunday Twins game were day games. So he is an effective closer during the night and terrible during the days, these stats are so vastly different it is a little amazing.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) You're exactly right . 2005 Bobby was really the only version that was fastball dominant. From 2006 on he used the hammer curve to finish people off. which, for whatever reason, isn't working right now, so adjustments, either mechanically to get the curveball back or as Balta pointed out in another thread, possibly not tipped or a change in philosophy of how he attacks hitters.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) Balta pretty much nailed it. But you gotta give up the fast food, bro. I know it's hard. Believe me. But if you want to drop the weight you gotta pay the price. did you give yourself cheat days? I do and it helps me tremendously, although I was/am doing pretty high intensity work outs 5 days a week, sometimes x2 a day, so wasn't doing it strictly on diet. I know people who a cheat day works for and other people flat out can't handle them, one day turns into a week
-
have got in real good shape the last 6-8 months working real hard, but taking about a week off from working out and it feels great, going to start back up tomorrow and my body feels refreshed!
-
Great win! Sweaty Freddy keeps getting it done. Great to see Kotsay come through with two huge hits, but still would love to see a quality bat slip through waivers to add. Also always fun to see the Stealth Elf involved!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Frankly, I totally disagree. That hook is his key pitch. If he's throwing fastball after fastball up there, guys gear up for it and hit it. He needs that destroyer curveball to put them away. I would agree with that if he had consistent control of it, which he doesn't. He and the catchers can't live in a perfect world where he has it like he had when he was going good, his FB is his best pitch right now and I think they need to stick with it a majority of the time, if the curve comes to him, great, work it in.
-
he would cost very little and if he's terrible they can likely cut him, I have zero problem with the Sox kicking the tires on this guy
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Youkilis is out for the season. ouch, that hurts, at least they expect the rest of the walking wounded to come back (not sure on Cameron's status) but as the schedule a post or two above points out there is no need for them to sell, they can make a legit run and they're not a team that needs to shed money
-
he or AJ and Castro need to focus heavily on FBs, he is throwing hard and seemingly has good control over it, he gets in a ton of trouble with his offspeed stuff, either wild with it or hangs it, it would be more effective if he is pumping fastballs and throws the occasional offspeed

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) No. The conversation is about the $25 million from his Dodgers contract. We are assuming the Red Sox money is no longer relevant because the terms of that playing contact have expired. I believe the Dodgers agreed not to pick up the club options for 2009 and 2010 when they traded for Manny. Edit: I have been asking your ass to weigh in on this s*** for a few days now it's worth noting that the same B & B sources who said "only White Sox" are also saying they would not be claiming him, he has to clear and they'll work something out.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) Why would he not want to? who knows, he's crazy, I am at least going on the theory that "only for the White Sox" source from B & B is true, outside of that, there might be teams willing to take a risk
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) Because the fanbase stopped worshipping him the second he was suspended last year? maybe, again, wouldn't be shocked by anything Manny does, but I just think it's a huge risk to claim him because the Dodgers will walk away the second the claim is made
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) It's worth noting...Manny would be an FA at the end of this season again...so if he wanted one more payday, those 1.5 months might do it. true, but I've stopped trying to figure out what Manny thinks a long time ago, and why wouldn't he be doing it with the Dodgers?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Making an improvement trade and spending money and talent to do so didn't make much sense then, so why not spend a little more money a few days later. the key is whether "Bad Manny" really only wants to play for the White Sox, then Det or Min risk having an unhappy Manny and his "injury" lingering for 7m
-
if these reports are true Minny would be taking a HUGE risk, because sounds like L.A. would just say, go ahead eat the contract then Minny has an upset Manny on their hands
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) So what happens when Ozzie does or says something to upset him while he's here? He go into pouty, fake injury mode? yeah, but they said they won't claim him and take 100%, it would be favorable to them, so probably in a position to cut him and be in the same bad position with DH they are now
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) WTF? Really? This is something new. Almost seems false. yeah, sounds weird to me too, but it's what is being reported. Also, they said they do not and likely would not claim him on waivers and be stuck with 100% of his contract, they would let him pass through and work something out with Dodgers
-
OK, TFIW, this is from B & B and their sources, Manny isn't hurt, Dodgers sent him home because he was being "Bad Manny" and White Sox have sent "unofficial feelers" out to him and he said the White Sox are the only team he would play for at this point... Again, who knows, but it's new.
