  1. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whoa, what did you do? Was there a handle that you had to hold on to to keep from falling out? Personally, if there is a handle on a ride, I have a deathgrip on it. No letting go until I've done the ride a few times and am comfortable with it. The laws of physics saved his ass.
  2. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who is suggesting that we trade for blanco and what would make you think that the cubs would want the widgenator in the first place? Go back and find in my post, or any others where someone suggested trading Widger to the Cubs. The Sox could trade for a new catcher and then release Widger. It's not that hard to figure out.
  3. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 36 at-bats ...and Widger has had 37 against LHP. .189/.279/.236 Should we just ignore that too? I would like Blanco to take over Widger's spot in playing 2 times a week MAX. How many at-bats do you expect a player to have playing a third of his team's 78 games with probably twice as many starting right handed pitchers than left handed pitchers in the MLB? 78*1/3*1/3*4 at bats per game = 34.6666666666666666666666666666666 How about that?
  4. In case some of you are wondering; CERA per ESPN.com (through Yesterday) Widger: 5.17 AJ: 4.07 Compared to a team ERA of 4.34 Blanco: 5.45 Cubs' team ERA is 4.86 Career CERA: Widger: 4.49 AJ: 4.15 Blanco: 4.31
  5. QUOTE(squeezeplay @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Rangers just traded Castro to the Phillies for Daniel Haigwood and cash considerations. Rangers trade Castro to Phillies 02:11 PM CDT on Thursday, June 29, 2006 From Staff Reports ARLINGTON – The Rangers have traded lefthanded pitcher Fabio Castro to Philadelphia in exchange for lefthander Daniel Haigwood and cash considerations. In other moves, Josh Rupe was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma. Infielder Marshall McDougall was released from his contract with Oklahoma. Haigwood was 2-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 15 appearances with Double-A Reading. He has 84 innings pitched with 85 strikeouts and 42 walks. He was originally selected by the White Sox in the 2002 draft. It was the second time in less than eight months than Haigwood was traded. He was a part of the deal that saw Jim Thome go from the Phillies to the White Sox. Haigwood, Castro, and Rupe all mentioned in that article. [Flash Tizzle]How come we can't develop minor league pitchers? Where's our Liriano? [/Flash Tizzle]
  6. I don't think this topic has been discussed yet trade rumor wise, but Widger has been brutal this year. Last year it was a great story to see him win a championship with the World Champs, but this is 2006. I'm not too big of a fan of CERA, but it seems like all of our pitchers give up more runs than normal when's he's behind the plate. Here's another thing, Pierzynski hits LHP a hell of alot better than Widger. Fire away at me on this, but I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox pick up a guy like Henry Blanco to replace Widger. Blanco has been on fire lately, but he does a good job of calling games, throws out runners, has better numbers than Widger, and might not cost too much because his salary is a little high for a defensive catcher. FWIW, Blanco against LHP this season: .333/.385/.583
  7. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Rush Limbaugh is a hypocritical idiot. There, I said it. I tried really HARD to defend him when he had his bout with pain killers but enough is enough. He needs the book thrown at him. Do you consider him a "thug" now? Should sheriff Joe Arpaio have the right to pull him over and search him for drugs when he's driving through Arizona?
  8. Nuke and Minors, do you have a problem with actually burning a flag, or doing anything to an image of our Stars and Stripes? Do you have a problem with somebody using an American flag napkin to wipe their mouths? Should we punish those who can't control their bladders or shat themselves while wearing some USA boxers?
  9. Let's not kid ourselves here, Mota did not land Ramirez. He was just a late addition salary dump for yet another minor leaguer. For Penny, I was just looking at 2004 BEFORE he signed his contract extension. Finley was not offered arbitration, so they didn't get s*** for him. (Although that walk off grand slam to win the division was pretty cool.) http://www.thediamondangle.com/2005season/previews/lad.html
  10. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I see a lot of really lopsided deals here... can anyone think of some deal that made both teams worse? the 2004 Marlins-Dodgers trade was about as pointless as you could get. The Dodgers got rid of Mota (who turned into s*** for the next 1.5 years with the Marlins,) their "heart and soul" Paul Lo Duca (traded away for scraps this past offseason,) and Juan Encarnacion (who was traded to the Dodgers in the offseason.) The Marlins got rid of Hee Flop Choi (who was acquired 8 months before that and had one hot month. Claimed off waivers last offseason,) Brad Penny (Pitched 3 games for them spanning less than 12 innings and even lost on a 2 hitter,) and Bill Murphy (who was later used to get Steve Finley.) The Marlins flopped, got nothing in return this past offseason for Mota, Lo Duca or Encarnacion. The Dodgers nearly missed the playoffs, and Paul Depodesta was fired after the 2005 season.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If the child has medical issues, or in the cases of rape/incest, or in the cases of the mothers health. Sure, I am not as closed minded on the subject as a lot of people are. However there are tons of people getting on planes to fly to remote destinations all over the world who cannot have children that would love to adopt a child. Are we running short on bastard children? Who wants a kid born as a crack baby? As Steff mentioned before, adoption is a long process. It's not like one of those people giving away free puppies out of a cardboard box. As for this killer, good for the justic system. He is a waste of space and tax dollars in the long run. Is there anyone here that thinks the justice system may have screwed up and this guy wasn't responsible? You can't bring back a life, therefore get rid of the death penalty entirely.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 11:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What does that have anything to do with it? The point is his era is still 4.66 after he just pitched an 8 inning shutout and thats up from 3.87 last season and a career 3.97. And he cant get the fastball like he used to even when he tries...Obviously if he could what would be the point of changing. At least with Garland we know its not his stuff thats been the problem its all in his head. That was a seperate point from the debunking of your theory that Freddy only has wins because of run support. Here's Freddy's run support in games he has lost: 2 2 0 8 (6 runs in the almost miracle 9th inning.) This is in regards to all of the Freddy Bashing; The late inning runs result in final scores that mask his very good pitching performances. He has only been hit hard against Two Teams: The Blue Jays and the Indians. Unfortunately because he has faced the Indians 3 times and the BJ's twice (although the rain and umps had a HUGE factor in that game) his overall numbers have been hurt. His velocity is down, but he is doing it to get more movement on his pitches. Why? Who knows? Maddux made the same change (although much later in his career,) but if Freddy is still getting wins against all but two teams, who cares in the end?
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah I kind of hope Freddy Garcia isnt in the starting rotation next season.... his record looks good so far but he has had a lot of run support. But on the mound for the most part he has impressed me less than Garland. Yeah they sure broke out the bats the last time he won. Freddy's wins: 5-3 over the Tigers 6-4 over Blue Jays (f***ed up rain game where they rushed to get through the 5th.) 9-2 over Twins (3 runs came after he left the game.) 8-5 over Angels (he only gave up 3 of the runs in 6 innings) 9-1 over Angels (Freddy is an Angels killer, but the Sox brought the lumber against Bullpen pitcher Kevin Gregg that night) 7-3 over Twins (1 run came in the 9th) 7-0 over Cubs (Freddy is a Cubs killer and the Cubs f***ing blow) 12-4 over Reds (another s***ty NL team) 1-0 over the Cards I only see about 2 or 3 games where the offense bailed him out of a below average start. The Angels (Even though he had a Quality start, the Rain game on Easter, and MAYBE the Reds game even though he settled down big time after giving up that first inning, first row homer to that steroid abuser, Rich Aurilia.) Hasn't it already been mentioned 100 times that Freddy is intentionally taking speed off his fastball for more movement?
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 08:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't remember that? What did he do?? Does nobody else remember this? http://www.baseball-almanac.com/box-scores...id=200208270CHA It was the first sign of his clutchness. Two run homer in the 9th to tie it, Grand Slam in the 10th to win it.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 07:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I heard Jon Miller ask last night during telecast, but I never heard any answer... Has anyone ever hit two homers in the last two innings for that many RBIs to rally a team back single handedly? What about Crede back in 2002 against the Blue Jays?
  16. I told my Dad I didn't want to leave before the 8th inning started, and as we were walking back to my family's place, I could hear the crowd, and then I got really pissed one I saw fireworks. HOpefully this will convince him for next time because if I was the one driving, we would've witnessed it. Someone else I know left with one out in the bottom of the 9th because his dad wanted to beat traffic. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
  17. I just saw the play, and I didn't think it was THAT great. First off, it was turned on Gary Bennent. Second, Baseball Tonight showed Scott Rolen make a play like that and Scott was even further into foul territory than Inge. Definately not play of the year material IMO.
  18. QUOTE(Hurons @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Same place the sox fans were since when...1908...until last year. I came across this board last night and saw a post asking Tiger fans to register...so I did. I do not consider myself boisterous at all. If I come across that way so be it. I will gladly fade to black and you can have your precious pro sox board free and clear of competitors boisterous fans. A thread pops up that says Die Tigers and you dont expect a least a few posts abbout the Tigers from their fans? Wrong Chicago team Not winning a title doesn't make a team a s***ty franchise and give their fans an excuse to go into hibernation. But I can understand why Tiger fans have been hiding considering their team has not had a winning season since 1993 along with setting the AL record for most losses in a season.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> By the way, last night the AL lost a whole two games. ....and one of those was due to Ray Durham being unable to get a bunt down and hitting a walk off 3 run homer.
  20. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How can we win 9 in a row and be in second place? The Tigers are annoying. I actually enjoy it. How do you think the Twins feel?
  21. Go AL Central! 6.5 game lead on the Wild Card!
  22. QUOTE(loltrain @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 09:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To the people blaming Izzy: Chad Qualls. I don't get this post at all. Please explain.
  23. Rowand had a throw in Fenway that reminded me of on he made last season in Seattle.
