QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Byrd isn't going to be a problem. The last four seasons he's put up ERA+' of 109, 132, 110, 112. He was actually, IMO, one of the better starting pitcher signings this offseason -- the deal was something like 2 year, $12 million, right? That's pretty good for a slightly above average pitcher. I don't know how injury prone he is with that new motion and less velocity he's throwing with, but if he's healthy, he certainly won't be the one on the staff that'll hurt you. And, Johnson will be the weak link, but he probably won't be bad enough to get replaced. I mean, I doubt Shapiro was expecting a whole lot when he signed Johnson, other than a guy to give the Tribe 190 innings at the back of the rotation, with an ERA around 4.60. He's probably just a very tiny bit better than their fifth starter of last year, Scott Elarton. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Byrd has never, NEVER made back to back 30 start seasons in his career. Last year he made 31 starts, so he has already pissed away two of his 24 (guessing) 2006 starts. I went over this before, Johnson f***ing sucks and Elarton was better than him. Johnson had a road era of 6.66 last season.

Reminds me of this lesbian porno I saw where this one chick starting licking under this other girl's arm, and worked her way down south.

''I'm shocked they brought in Jim Thome. He was more injured than I was last year. And they guaranteed him all that money. So I don't know where they're going with that. What's the logic behind it?----Frank Thomas

QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) But the Phillies "gave" Thome to the Sox and the D-Backs "gave" Vazquez to the Sox for basically the same reason. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's entirely innaccurate. The Marlins' and Pirates' moves to the Cubs were 100% financially-based. Thome was traded because he was blocking a young player, and Arizona had to trade at Vazquez because he demanded a trade. Neither of those teams cried poor, and they actually gave the Sox a lot of money. EDIT: Ramirez was less about the money because of his attitude, but he was arbitration eligible. The Pirates would later go on to "sell" Kendall and Giles (although they did get a good package for him.)

QUOTE(POPPY_HIDALGO @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 06:17 PM) So, you're happy that they are losing and can already tell none of my predictions will come true after 4 games? Yawn. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ooooh, I like this POPPY_HIDALGO better than the old one. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 11:04 PM) This incredible Tigers offense has also faced the dominating pitching staffs of the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kevin Millwood is the first MLB pitcher they faced so far this season, and personally I'm glad they whooped his ass. I'm a Millwood hater

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) Hopefully the Royals don't get some extra base hits off Vazquez's flyballing ways. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Royals' home is a pretty spacious park. There were a few balls last night that would have been homers if not for the wind and deep fences. -

Terrible. Ozzie needs to rip these guys a new asshole after the game. -
BP jerseys don't have names on the back.

Well based on his previous seasons I would have to say that Garland's 2005 was a fluke. (Please prove me wrong John.) However, Jon has a chance to prove that 2005 was a breakout season, and Westbrook blew his chance to show that 2004 wasn't a fluke with a mediocre 2005. EDIT: Garland has also been better in the ERA department on a season to season basis. 2 above the average (half the season in relief,) 3 right at the average. Westbrook has had 2 seasons with ERA's in the 5's, 1 great ERA, 1 average, and 1 below average season. Looking at the career numbers, I'd say Garland is an average pitcher, and Westbrook is a below average pitcher.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) Until last year, Wal-Mart considered an employee working 28 hours a week to be full-time. I worked for a radio station who's news director's salary in 2000 was 14K a year. His assistant was 12K. I worked for the third largest radio company in the country for a while and one of the assistants to the sales staff was making under 18K a year and working 50 hours a week. You'd be surprised how little you make on the low end of the white collar scale. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Rex, is it true in the radio business that the top 5% of broadcasters make 95% of the money? I had to have some of my friends talk some sense into me when I was upset for not getting the money I was looking for while job hunting, and I am really glad I went to college for a quality education. I can't imagine how hard it must be to try and live off of $18000-$25000 a year.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) Lee and Westbrook have been consistently above average pitchers for the last several years. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What? Only once has Jake Westbrook had an era below the league average, and only once has Jake Westbrook had a WHIP under 1.3. His 2004 season was a fluke. Cliff Lee has only had two years as a full time starter, and last year he was able to pad his record by feasting off the Royals and getting 9 runs a game. If the Sox don't s*** their pants with the bases loaded yesterday, we're not having this conversation.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 4, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) The rest . . . of the story <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Dave Wills? He does kinda look like our former radio host.

I'm keeping it in the garage, and I still have my Chevy Malibu. (High School graduation present) Not really a "beater," but it'll get the job done.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 3, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) Not getting personal, and none of my business, and just a general comment, debt is a tough thing. Building a nest egg will bring you a lot more happiness. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well the mothly payments are about what I make in a week, and I don't really spend much money on anything else. I plan on using the other checks towards my savings and checking account because I use a direct deposit system to pay off my car. The job I currently have is for one year, but I have a strong feeling I can get something with them after. Because of this I didn't want to buy a house. My parents made me save my money for college while growing up and told me when I finished, I could used the leftovers for whatever I wanted. As for the car, it's a 2002 automatic. (never tried stick, Plus how and I suppose to talk on my phone, change the radio, or drink my scalding hot McDonald's coffee with a stick?)

Here's my first car I purchased on my own. Not too shabby for being 3 months out of school. B)

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 09:34 PM) Yeah, it's supposed to restart at 10:30 p.m. CT. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> f*** that. I need to go to bed soon. Just cancel the damn game and have Garland (could Contreras pitch tomorrow?) go tomorrow.

time for a homer off this BP pitcher.
