  1. QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) The ESPN opening was pretty good. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They showed my Family's bar!
  2. whitesox.com's page after the Sox won 7 in a row in 2000
  3. Some guys like DDP had their matches planned out move by move so obviously they had to know the outcome well before the actual match. Plus you hear lots of behind the scene stories of guys not wanting to do the job and then no-showing a show. so they obviously knew the outcome more than 10 minutes before the match.
  4. QUOTE(TLAK @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) It has actually happened 3 times in the modern era: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the research. That Oakland team came to me the other day because I was looking through the career of Kingman.
  5. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) I wonder if he had to get legal clearance in order to use "MLB" as part of his web site name?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The B stands for "bulls***."
  6. Jim, how do you know this guy has connections? I also think it's really unfair to Ofman and Levine to be lumped in with this guy. These guys are paid good money to travel around with baseball teams whereas we have a guy who, to quote Bob Uecker, is "0 for the century" when predicting possible trade rumors. (Yes, he does predictions as evident by such titles as "expect player X to be heading to team Y soon.") Ofman was the first to report the Contreras signing. Where was this guy? Don't you think if he had ANY connections he would get something right and before someone else? I mean, I knew of Nancy Faust re-signing for 2 more years back in 2003 because I engaged in a conversation with her son online (I e-mailed him like his mom asked ) Maybe you know more to this story than me, but my uncles or one of them knew of Tim Raines being signed by the Sox before anyone else because they were hanging out in the GM's office. How is it that people I know can get inside scoop like this, yet a guy who runs a blog dedicated to all trade rumors can't get ANYTHING before someone else?
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) He still put up good numbers overall last year and would do the same at a htiters park like ours. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I absolutley despise this logic. It's true that USCF is a great hitter's place like Texas, but why would you want a guy on your team if you know he is going to be f***ing atrocious on the road (HALF THE SEASON.) It's more than not being able to hit LHP, or on the road, he's also not a finisher. His 2nd half numbers always suck too. I'd much rather have Crede over Blalock in October and September even if it means Crede won't hit RHP, at home, in the first half better than Hank. We have Thome, Konerko, Dye, and AJ to knock in our runs. We don't need Blalock.
  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) Maybe so but the premise of the trade makes perfect sense. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The only premise that doesn't make sense is the Brewers trading away one of their biggest draws to a rival that finished behind them last year. I think the Brewers might trade Lee as well, but it would only be if/when they fall out of contention the in the divisional race. As soon as the Sox got Vazquez it was being talked about how the Sox would trade Garland/Contreras and Uribe for Tejada. The premise made sense, but it was bunk.
  9. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) I thought all along barring a total failure as a team last year that we'd probably be best served keeping all 6 guys. I wanted to keep Jose more than Garland and now we have both. I tend to think that moving a Garland for a Blalock or someone of that ilk 8 months from now is the way to go. I swear to god if they don't keep Buehrle around past 07 then I'm taking a year off from spending any money on the Sox though <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought we established this a long time ago; Blalock sucks.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) NO that is right. His original deal which runs out after this year was 4 years at $8 mil per. that is just the end of his old contract. 2007-2009 is the new deal. EDIT NEVERMIND, I just caught the typo. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's what you get for not changing your name. Aboz, you mention Vazquez being signed through 2007, but he is also under control through 2008 because he demanded a trade.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 05:05 AM) Some people question if we have the best 5 man starting rotation this season(oakland, Twins, Angels) and your saying in history. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I haven't heard anyone say the Twins (Loshe? Baker instead of the drunk Liriano,) or Angels, but I have heard of Oakland having the best pitching staff because they go 7 deep (but Loaiza and Saarloos arecertainly no Javy Vazquez.) Here are some of the best: 1998 Braves: Maddux: 18-9, 2.22 ERA, 251 innings Glavine: 20-6, 2.47 ERA, 229.1 innings Neagle: 16-11, 3.55 ERA, 210.1 innings Millwood: 17-8, 4.08 ERA, 174.1 innings Smoltz: 17-3, 2.90 ERA, 167.2 innings 1998 Yankees: Pettite: 16-11, 4.24 ERA, 216.1 innings Irabu: 13-9, 4.06 ERA, 173 innings Hernandez: 12-4, 3.13 ERA, 114 innings Wells: 18-4, 3.49 ERA, 214.2 innings Cone: 20-7, 3.55 ERA, 207.2 innings 2003 Mariners: Garcia: 12-14, 4.51 ERA, 201.1 innings Moyer: 21-7, 3.27 ERA, 215 innings Franklin: 11-13, 3.57 ERA, 212 innings Meche: 15-13, 4.59 ERA, 186.1 innings Pinero: 16-11, 3.78 ERA, 211.2 innings That one may surprise you, but IIRC, they were the first five man rotation to not miss a start in a season. (Look at the innings.) I haven't checked ALL of the record books, but I think it's safe to say that no team has ever had a 5 man rotation with every guy going 200+ innings, let alone 200+ innings with everybody having an ERA under 4.
  12. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) Those are exactly my sentiments. I love watching the kid pitch, but spite Sabean every day for trading him from the National League. What I wouldn't do for Williams to trade for a Lirano, or draft a pitcher with even half his talent.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why are you so obsessed with minor leaguers? Who cares? We won the damn title and have a near $100 million payroll. Oh yeah, we have the best starting 5 in the HISTORY OF BASEBALL (remember, 5 man rotations don't go back that long ago. )
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 31, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) What else should have KW done, though, with the FA market outrageous [and not very good besides the few overpriced guys]? You didn't say what moves you would have made. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't bother asking VA that. He was spamming for the signing of Brian Giles and re-signing Contreras and trading Vazquez in the middle of the season.
  14. 670 the Score was talking about the newest SI issue has the Sox winning the Central, winning over the Angels and then the A's, and finishing up with beating the Cardinals in the World Series. I really don't think the Angels will win the Wild Card, and I am expecting the Sox to beat the Yankees in the ALCS.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 27, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) I could care less about predictions. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Then why don't you care less about them? It's "couldn't care less."
  16. His middle name is "FOCKING."
  17. I can't believe that prick of a third baseman was staring at his double. You are ARAMIS Ramirez, not MANNY!
  18. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 26, 2006 -> 01:47 PM) are you serious? read about 3 posts up <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, but seriously though.
  19. North Face sucks. To me it looks like overpriced Old Navy gear with a 1980's NBC logo on it. I'd rather wear my Sox jacket.
  20. Cruz should love going back to the crappy NL in a crappy division.
  21. Old news. Mlb.com has been selling them for sometime now.
  22. To be fair LCR, a lot of those bars are filled with Parkland kids. Not the local ones that go there, but the ones whose parents pay $10 grand to live at private housing on UIUC's campus, 10 miles away from their Junior College. :rolly
