Here's a quote from the 5-30-2004 Tribune: here's a report from Ofman on 6-10-2004 (FWIW)
-
QUOTE(southsider17 @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) That's not what I heard on the radio last year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well there's an article on whitesox.com that quotes KW as saying Borchard was untouchable (I'll find it,) and Rick Hahn said that Reed was not on KW's "3 year board." So whose words are you going to take, the General Manager and the assistant GM, or some sports-blab nonsense?
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) Jeremy reed was untouchable accoring to kenny williams too... until he no longer was. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Borchard was the untouchable one, not Reed.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) name the last GM who came on the radio and said they were going to trade their players <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What's your point? Beane said he isn't going to trade him. :rolly

I haven't read a book since my freshman year of high school. (and yes, I just finished my 4th year of college. )
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 03:15 AM) rofl You seriously think he is telling the truth? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why take his word for it when we can just whack off to a baseless trade rumor? :rolly He's not coming here.................................this year.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Any cost, that is below market value for a player in a position that we desperately need, yes I would do it in a second. If your main argument to this is what will that do to our payroll, and your love for Joe Randa, we are never going to see Eye to eye. Because if you think Randa is a better player you are crazy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Better than who? Chavez? No he isn't. I think he is better than Crede though. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) If you think Randa is better in the long run, you have got to be kidding me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think Chavez would be better than Randa in the long run for third base, but certainly not in the long run for our team. Reinsdorf and Co. operate this team on a budget. Unless they plan on spending a ton of money at free will, I don't want to see Chavez in a Sox uni because he will make so much. Who's to say the market won't change in the next 5 years? The average player's salary could go up, or down. Back in 2000 this would've looked like a great contract becuase A-Rod was getting $25 million per, and Manny was getting $20 million per. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) This makes sense, he basically takes Kong's place in the payroll, this is close to what it will cost to keep kong and sign Crede in arbitration. If we dont sign Crede then we have no 3B, got it? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who says Konerko will be back next year? Konerko said he'd be willing to take a hometown discount to stay here, but I don't want him back. Why don'y you take a look a who will be getting raises next year? Garland (Due for a big one) Dye Pods (1.4 million raise) Buehrle Garcia Thomas (his buyout will cost $3.5 million) just to name a few. It looks as if Konerko's 2005 salary is already being spent on raises for many players in 2006. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Heh, one of the reasons Beane would be trading Chavez would be to dump his salary. Trading him in the next 6 years means paying more of his contract. :rolly <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who says Oakland is going to dump salary? They still need someone to market in order to draw people to the ballparks. Beane chose Chavez over Giambi and Tejada. With his ego, do you really think he would just give up on Chavez just for Crede and McCarthy? -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Ok, lets put it to rest, we can pay a Gold Glove all star 3B below market value for the duration of his contract which extends through the typical peak years, or we could be stuck with jack s*** when Crede walks......uh yeah lets put it to bed that we should get Chavez. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> At any costs??? How about we trade Crede for something small and get a stop-gap like Joe Randa? Don't you think that Billy Beane can get a much better offer over the next SIX YEARS for Eric Chavez than a struggling Crede and top prospect? -

Don't you guys think that Beane might be able to get a better offer than Crede and McCarthy for chavez within the next 6 years? :rolly -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) ... his dogs he wants williams to take care of. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is it in the contract by name that Billy Beane has to take care of his dogs? Seriously folks, take a look at that f***ing contract breakdown and tell me a.) it's worth the giving him all that money over these next 6 years b.) it would only cost Crede and McCarthy. Let's put this thing to rest already..... -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) Chavez has a 6-year, $66 million contract that breaks down like this... 2005: $8 million + $500 K signing bonus 2006: $9 million + $500 K signing bonus 2007: $9 million + $500 K signing bonus 2008: $11 million + $500 K signing bonus 2009: $11 million + $500 K signing bonus 2010: $12 million 2011: $12.5 million team option or $3 million buyout <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Holy s***! That contract is worse than I thought. f*** Chavez at all costs. -

If some of you guys want the Sox to acquire fat contracts, how about Abreu? I imagine it's just as likely for him to be traded to the Sox as is a trade of Chavez for just Crede and McCarthy. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) If Williams got Chavez for Mac and Crede, it would be his best move ever, hands down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree, but I can't see that happening. It would cost a lot more, and I'm just not comfortable with paying Chavez $11+ million per year. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) BTW, his "raw numbers" are better than our 1B who is getting the same money right now, and who will probably command more going forward without the benefits of the gold glove, this would be a great deal. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead The Sox have $8.75 million to pay Konerko this season. I have already said that I don't want Konerko back next year. Are Chavez's numbers more impressive than Konerko's to warrant him to be paid $3-4 million more than Konerko for the next three years? I certainly don't think so. As for your minor leaguers comments, I'm not saying they are locks to pan out, but why use your best ones to aquire a fat contract? -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Chavez OPS+: 109 94 118 131 122 132 132 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Adjusted numbers mean nothing to me. Just give me the raw data. Chavez is not worth a $30+ million commitment and giving up some of our top talent. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:08 PM) see: Paul Konerko <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Konerko is finishing up his contract at $8.75 million, and has batted over .288 (Chavez's best season) 3 times. I don't want Konerko back next year, and I don't want Chavez's overpaid ass for the next three years either. -

QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) check out careers buddy. it says it all. plus hitting is contagious and his environment in Oakland just sucks right now. i'm betting its not much fun and players seem to do better when they're having fun (see Little Big League) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've made this post at least a dozen times, and even shown the stats, HE HAS NEVER HAD AN OPS OF .900 IN A SEASON YET HE GETS PAID LIKE A SLUGGER. -

Just say NO to chavez. Yearly OPS: 1999: .760 2000: .850 2001: .878 2002: .860 2003: .864 2004: .898 2005: .593 His season high for BA is .288, yet he will make 10+ million a year for the next 3 years and the GM has to take special care of his dogs. :rolly I do not want to give up Bmac or Gio anyways. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) We already have Raul Mondesi... he is named Jermaine Dye. No thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ....and Dye has a positive attitude. Raul can kiss my ass.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Clearly you haven't watched the whole game. The whole entire team deserves to be shot after this one. In fact, Damaso wasn't even amongst the team's poorest contributors today. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually I ahve. The offensive still sucks. Timo should've never been brought in during a 1 run game. Why was Marte facing right handers? Anyone watching this game on ESPN feed? Apparently they are ripping apart Guillen.
