QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) We're staring 4L right in the face. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :headshake Contreras' career vs. the Indians: 1-0 2.30 ERA 1.06 WHIP .200 BAA -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) I don't know where to put this put anyways some cub fan on Silvy and Carmen called in and proposed this trade: Cubs trade Jason Dubois, Sergio Mitre and Felix Diaz for Griffey. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Some Cub fan called in yesterday offering minor leaguer Corey Patterson for Jeremy Affeldt and David Dejesus.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) The places where Moneyball/Sabermetric theories have been planted in, it's done average or better. Epstein in Boston won a WS ring, DePo in LA made the playoffs last year (though you can't really call it a success, as this year they've been bad -- but a team with that many injuries should do bad), and Toronto -- they've done about average, considering the division that they're in. I'd like to see how Ricciardi's talent that's in the system now does before I really judge him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Here's a better idea; why don't you take a look at the Jays' payroll compared to the two other monsters you mentioned? It also didn't hurt the Red Sox that they had Pedro, Schilling, and Lowe pitching out of his mind last October.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) What exactly does batting average mean again? That a guy can hit a bunch of singles? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :rolly You think Dunn is better than Ichiro?

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) EDIT: Only we at Soxtalk would start a thread about a woman's titties and end up at Star Trek. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I know. I suck. I was going to use Ray Charles again, but I decided to go a different route.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't plan on paying attention to an Illini football game until at least November because of the Sox.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Well for the record... I still hate Timo... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> and you're still obnoxious.

Harris thinks he should play everyday.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) When getting everyday playing time Willie was batting around .300ish with a good OBP... than Valentin came back from DL and Uribe was favored over Willie and Willie slowly declined but still was decent. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Harris' BA in 66 AB's (June 2004) : .182 Harris' BA in 48 AB's (July 2004) : .188 Harris' BA in 78 AB's (September 2004) : .218 -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) I'd rather have a guy who has a better chance to get on-base off the bench... Funny, you weren't here when Harris was hitting over .300 -- it's pretty easy to rip on a guy when he's slumping, too. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> With a bat coming off the bench, you need clutch hits. For some of you it's hard to believe that there is a difference between a walk and a single. All Harris had to do yesterday was move Podsednik over to third, but he couldn't do that. Who gives a s*** about his OBP (.301 isn't impressive anyways) if he can't even move the runner over? But that kind of stuff doesn't show up in the box score, so I assume you don't care about it then. I know Timo sucks, but Harris has been so bad lately he has become the #1 canidate to leave this team once Gload comes back. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) Yup, he sure did. That he can have his best offensive night of the season, going 3-for-4, and still have an OBP under .300. Meanwhile, a struggling Willie Harris -- who is clearly not playing at his best, or even at his average self right now (not saying he's hurt, just saying he's not playing well) -- still has an OBP over .300. Plus he's better defensively. Plus he can steal a bag late in the game. I'm not gonna try and defend Harris as an everyday player. But he's better than Timo -- a lot better. And I just got home from the game. Any reason why Rowand/Thomas/Iguchi all were benched, after a day off? Any *good* reasoning for that yet? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Timo's OPS is 90 points higher than Willie's right now. There is no God! -

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:11 PM) Willie has always played better with consistant playing time. He's still more valuable then Timo even while completely blowing offensively. Third if you actually read the article it says he desires more playing time, who doesn't. What do you expect him to say. I'm perfectly happy never being any better then what I am now. It's fun to blame this game on Willie but the guy hasn't played in like a week. He shouldn't of been in the 2 spot period... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Didn't Harris bat .182 or something last June and July when he was getting "consistent playing time?" Willie sucks, and I hope he is tradedat the deadline to improve this team. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) And he still didn't get over .230 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Timo is batting .231 compared to Harris' .216. At least we know who too dump when Gload comes back. For the statheads out there who b**** about Timo's OPS+, right now his OPS is 90 points higher than Harris'.

Typical Wunsch. I saw the boxscore, and despite not throwing a single pitch, he got credit for not allowing both runners to score.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) That'll be kinda hard seeing how he's....well, with Jabroni. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What happened? (PM me if you prefer)

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) I'd come out to Shingo's old music as a tribute to him, just as Shingo comes out to it as a tribute to his favorite Japanese wrestler, who came into the ring to it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Shingo has said that he chose that music because it was from "Speed 2." Which wrestler came out to that? As for me, I would come out to C-Murder's "Y'All Heard of Me." The bass line would be enough to make the opposing batters piss their pants.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:23 AM) Id he played consistently, he could easily hit .280 and hit 30+ homers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought only Cubs fans made ridiculous claims like these. :headshake Just how "easy" do you think it is to hit 30 homers at the major league level? Dubois is just another Patterson. Look at the number of K's between the two.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) Win shares are based on Pythagorean record, so players on winning teams have more win shares. Brady Clark is ahead of him because he plays Center field, and CFers accumulate more chances. Pods might also be higher on the list because he occasionally play CF <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really? I knew win shares were worthless and this seals its fate. Run differentials are the key to baseball. Just look at the Nationals.

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) With the Addition of Jenks, I feel like our Bullpen is complete. I love our bullpen now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I wouldn't mind seeing Viz and Shingo dumped to a team like Boston.

Carl Crawford can take his career .316 OBP and stick it up his non-allstar, jealous backside.

Would you trade for Kerry Wood?
santo=dorf replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) Wood has more power than Garcia, Contreras has all sorts of special problems, and the others are relievers, one of whom has virtually no MLB experience (though I am very high on Jenks at the moment) Wood has demonstrated that, when healthy, he can lead a team to the playoffs (and that he can win in the playoffs...yes, there's Game 7, but he won his other playoff starts in a dominating fashion) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh? I think I would take Jose's "special" problems over Kerry's back, elbow,prostate, and God knows what other s*** that results in him SPENDING TIME ON THE DL. Kerry Wood is NOT healthy, and he did not lead that team to the playoffs back in 2003, it was Prior. Look at Prior's second half numbers from 2003 and get back to me. -
Would you trade for Kerry Wood?
santo=dorf replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
Does anyone else feel that if Jose Contreras struck out 20 in a game he would get the same amount of hype as Wood? Or would Contreras not get it because he didn't do it in his rookie season?
