QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) I've tried this and it is good but not as good as Guinness on its own. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It made it taste kinda "waxy." You're also supposed to ignite the shot of Jager before dropping it into the pint of Guinness.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) If Dave Littlefield has proven one thing over the past however many years he has been the GM of the Pirates, it's that he does not make the right moves. One of his lone good moments was the Ritchie trade. And then he redeemed himself for that deal by essentially giving the Sox Marte(given, Seattle had also given up on Marte, but why deal an arm like Marte when you are rebuilding anyways? Just doesn't make sense to me in hindsight) That organization's fascination with McClendon and Littlefield is beyond me. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Was Littlefield in charge when Jason Schmidt was traded with John Vander Wal to the San Francisco Giants for Armando Rios and Ryan Vogelsong? (God Vogelsong sucks) Or letting Arroyo getting picked up by the Red Sox? Or trading Jon Lieber for Brant Brown? God he sucks. :headshake

Hal (TornLabrum) recommends that everyone who plans on attending the special Sox Patio Party on September 8th print out the Official form from the White Sox. Send this if you are mailing or faxing your orders to the Sox.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Who says we have to depend on Duque to start in the postseason? IF we make it, I'd have no problem with him not starting. Ozzie better not start him above the big 3. Gordon could help you out a lot more than Duque could in the postseason. Gordon and his 2.72 ERA sure sucks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I didn't say he sucks, but his health is a concern after he makes a lot of appearances. His walk rate has almost doubled from last year, he has allowed 11 of the 17 inherited runners to score (compared to 6-37 in 2004 and 7-37 in 2003,) and he has already pitched 50.2 innings. I love the guy, but I just don't trust after the amount of work Torre has given him so far.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) Are you kidding? I would do that trade in a heartbeat! Hell, I'd even throw in a mid-level prospect for Gordon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gordon was overworked last year, and just isn't the same. I loved him with the Sox back in 2003, but I don't think he's worth giving up a guy who we are depending on onfe the postseason starts.
-
El Duque for Gordon? f*** that. The only reason why I wouldn't mind getting Burnett is for the attention and preventing the Blow Sox or some other AL team from getting him.
-
These past couple of games really made me think of how important defense is in baseball.

The Sox had a one hitter thrown against them this year. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws

Here's the file Hal has.

QUOTE(TornLabrum @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) If anybody wishes a copy of the .pdf file of the flyer the Sox sent me, I'll be glad to send it to you. Just email me at [email protected] . Just watch out for spam filters if I get a bunch of requests and cc a bunch. Hal Vickery <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can host the file for download if you want.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) I never thought i'd say this about this team this year but they really could miss the playoffs... Not only is it possible but if they continue to play like this it's likely... The fact is that Ross Gloads bad defense was the Anchor that brought this team down... Last night it was Willie Harris and Juan Uribe... As for Willie and Ross, AAA sounds good... Uribe.... well he can be a bench player.. get a decent SS... without these three losers this is a sweep... .if these three are allowed to play in any meaningful way that not only is it likely we will miss the playoffs, but a certainty... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Congratulations! You have officially passed Anthraxfan93 as the most obnoxious troll on this board. :headshake

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) Or he'll get intentionally walked. However, we're not getting him, so this is just for fun. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If we're in a situation where we need a hit or a ball batted into play to get in a run, how does Dunn getting intenionally walk help our situation? FWIW, i don't think a walk is as good as a hit.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) Didn't he also hit a couple of homers in the series? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually he only hit one, and that was off an injured Kerry Wood who was lobbing 87 MPH fastballs. But of course it all looks the same in the box score which is why Dunn is such a great player. :rolly He was 3-16 in the 4 game series against the Cubs. Again, with what I saw, I wasn't impressed with Dunn AT ALL.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) I couldn't disagree more. Even in a so-called down year, his OPS is still one of the best in the NL. I truly believe that on the proper team, his K numbers would diminish. The entire Reds team just swings out of their ass. It's like how Pods had high K numbers with the Brewers last year, when everyone else was swinging out of their ass. I'd take Dunn over any Sox offensive player this season in a second. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I couldn't stand watching Dunn "hit" during the Cubs series. He struck out looking on a straight fast ball on a 3-2 count from Williams, and in a 1-run game with the bases loaded with one out, he strikes out. All he had to do is put the ball into play in order to get in the tying run. EDIT: Computer f***ed up, missed some words.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) Ya, he got it earlier this year. He's ridiculously over-rated in my book. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree. He has only 8 in almost 600 career games.
-
Uhhhh, doesn't Cora's feet have to make contact with the base in order to record the force out?
-
What is going on?

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) I swear he looks like Robocop. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> More like Steve Kerr.

Also note that they went back to the oldstyle where it's an actual vest. Not that black sleeve connected to the white vest crap.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) $7 million? I thought it was $6 million, and wouldn't it only be like $3 million, 'cause it's halfway through the season? At least, that's the line I was thinking along with. If paying $6 million this year meant getting Burnett, for just Contreras and Vizcaino, yes I'd do it. Of course, I'd reconsider if I knew that there was also interest in trading for a guy like Wagner/Guardado. But if that was the only move possible to make -- then I'd probably do it (moreso along the money lines of $3 million, though.). Vizcaino doesn't mean a whole lot to me. I think Jeff Bajenaru could come up and do equally as well as Vizcaino. In my mind, I think if given the shot, he could do a better job, but that's extremely debatable. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think Viz makes $1.3 million this year, and half of Contreras' salary for 2005 and 2006 would be $6 million. I think at this point in time it is possible that Baj would be an upgrade over Viz, however, I really don't like the idea of having to split with one of our SP and bullpen guys for a 6 inning, injury-plagued pitcher.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) A real interesting idea would be something like -- Contreras + Vizcaino for Burnett, with the Sox eating all of Viz/Contreras' contracts for this year, and half of Contreras' for next year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good God almighty. So you'd be willing to trade about $7 Million, our #4 starter, and our only mop up bullpen guy for half a season of Burnett (and his salary?)
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:33 AM) You do that while he still consistantly gets Pods to 3rd. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> By September Willie will get his playing time after hte Sox clinch.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) you're getting off on this aren't you? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You've lost your argument. Let it go already. :headshake

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) how the f***? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Based on what Willie has shown me, he can't hit .267. Now how can both of those be facts? EDIT: and why would we want Willie hitting .267 if Iguchi is hitting .270 and moving the runners over? :banghead
