  1. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 11:59 AM) So, ignoring Muslim extremists will make them go away? Great strategy, especially for a country that's mostly made up of Christians and Atheists. At the very least, recognizing Hebzollah as a terrorist organization will help stop the flow of their funding from France. The French government needs to take a long, hard look at what's happened recently to other countries who have "turned the other cheek" towards terrorism (Spain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia). That strategy clearly does not work. It took WW2 for Britain to learn the price of appeasement, I wonder what horrible extreme it's going to take for the French to learn the price of ignoriong the threat posed by terrorists.
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 18, 2005 -> 12:37 PM) I agree that Bill O'Reilly is not "news". He's a commentator and does not claim to be a news anchor. Therefore, he does have a bias. Which is why I can't understand why people get so upset with him (or Rush, or Mike Reagan, or Sean Hannity, etc) for expressing their opinions. Ive tried to make that point before but some people around here are just thick headed,
  3. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 13, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Disclaimer: If you are sick and tired of hearing about Mozilla's Firefox, this thread isn't for you; if you'd like to help a fellow poster out, please read on. For those of you using Firefox: Are you satisfied? Is it worth switching over from Internet Explorer? I've heard nothing but great things and I've been thinking very seriously about switching over. Although I'm pretty satisified with Explorer, the pop ups and third party software are overwhelming (even with Google's pop up blocker). Do I make the switch? I made the switch about 6 months ago and I love it. No more pop-ups!
  4. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 11:39 AM) This one is not good. Sexual extortion and rape seem odd tools for peacekeepers. U.N. Sex Crimes in Congo Damn you're fast!!! Seriously though, I'm not going to fault the entire U.N. for the actions of a few assholes who prey on the weak. The real scandal is Oil for Food, which hurt far more people and may well reach to the top of the U.N. bureaucracy.
  5. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) For who? Big Tobacco, Big Medicine, Big Corporate Anybody who now has little fear of actually being held accountable for their actions, since the federal courts are rather dismissive of class action suits. This is so anti-state's rights it should be scorned by any true republican who would give the thought of local governance more than lip service – except it's such a win for Big Unaccountable Corporate Anybody nobody is going to let their polital convictions get in teh way of that. Don't get me wrong. I DON'T agree that the lawyers bringing these suits should have been able to shop for the most agrreable state to try cases in. But the present solution is, again, treating dandruff by decapitation. The more reasonable solution would have been to, by default, make the state bringing the most claimants in on a suit the state in which the class action is tried. Better still to m aybe have all the states try the cases separately, but that would slow the legal process to a near standstill. Score for businesses who are being shaken down by greedy trial lawyers. Score for businesses being intimidated and coereced into paying out settlements because they can't afford to defend themselves.
  6. I like pretty much anything but Rap. Somehow it doesn't seem like music when all you hear is "f*** this" "f*** that".
  7. QUOTE(ihatethecubs @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) i cant stand how some people dont realize how strong our rotation actually is, i mean oakland and toronto? Let them keep thinking that. They'll never see us coming.

  11. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) Man my teachers never looked that good...sheesh I got hosed lol Can't teachers that look that good find themselves an actual man as opposed to some pimple faced 13 yr old?
  12. File this one under the positive column. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,146612,00.html
  13. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) Thank you. That's exactly the point I'm saying in regards to this feigned outrage about France selling things to Iraq. The US government (the Reagan administration) did the exact same thing so there's no real higher moral ground for them to stand on to be pissed about. And Nuke -- at the time the Iraq weapons sales began there was still the State Department listing of Iraq as a terrorist nation -- Reagan had it taken off so they could sell weapons. When the US wants to do something immoral, just get rid of the pesky law. It worked for Reagan and Delay is even using the same tactic now after 3 ethics violations [getting rid of the law that would make him have to step down as chairman of a committee if he's being indicted -- a GOP enacted provision from 1994] Did the U.S violate U.N. sanctions to sell Iraq weapons? No. Did the U.S. take bribes from Saddam Hussein for a "no" vote on military action? No So yes we do have moral high ground over France and Russia.
  14. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) Or the U.S. How quickly we forget our own history of propping up the same dictator with weapons & removing him from the list of terrorist nations even though he harbored fugitive terrorists like Abu Nidal. If we're going to whine about the French making money on blood then it doesn't seem like the US government of neo-cons has much a higher moral ground on which they can stand to make such claims. How convienient for you to leave out the small matter that France and Russia sold Iraq weapons in violation of the U.N. imposed sanctions while when the U.S. was selling them arms there were no such restrictions.
  15. QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) What's with the ? Is this funny to you? Yeah.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) My keys: 1. Just win baby 2. See #1
  17. My thing about Crede is that he really, REALLY needs to work on handling the ball. Sometimes last season he went several games where it looked like he hadn't mastered the art of transferring the ball from his glove to his throwing hand and it cost us big time.
  18. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Hitting so many homeruns weren't the problem. Hitting so many solo homeruns were the problem. Homers aren't a bad thing. It's just, when men are on base, it's a lot more productive for an offense. Why were there so many solo HR's though? Its cause they all were swinging for the fences so much they ended up popping up or K'ing instead of going with a pitch sometimes and slapping it into right.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) You've ever been to Ohio? That's as good as it gets I went to Cleveland back in 1995 on my way to eastern Canada and stopped by the then new Jacobs Field. The park looked really nice but the surrounding area looked like a total slum.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) This story was so slanted. The version I read in the Trib also mentioned "illnesses" as being things such as drug addiction, gambling, and the like. In other words not things that would probably be covered by insurance in the first place. My sympathies do not extend to those who bring their health problems on themselves ( drug addiction, gambling, alcoholism, etc etc. ).
  21. I think Abortion, when used as a last ditch effort at contraception, is wrong. If a couple gets pregnant and decides a couple of months down the road that they can't raise it or simply doesn't want it then they should bite the bullet and have the child then put it up for adoption. In cases of rape or incest I think the morning after pill is the best way to go and I'm all for making it available OTC. Additionally I think it's ok to do abortion in order to save the life of the mother. That all being said I don't think this was a good decision by the courts and it's gonna get tossed.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I'm not 100% convinced he'll go the season. Just a nagging thought in the back of my head when I think what is the most likely cause of this team going to hell. I come up with health aka 2004 and closer aka 2003. I guess we'll just have to see. Maybe Hermanson can serve as a backup. We are pretty solid in the pen nowadays.
  23. QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 09:46 AM) I think he's going to be a lot of fun to watch this year. Hell yeah, I can't wait.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 6, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) Damn, I seem to be following Nuke and agreeing with him. If we don't get some baserunners, the loss in power is worthless. From the looks of it, we have our best starting pitching in years. If the pitching lives up to the billing, we're in a lot of games this season. My worry, something that isn't mentioned often, do we have a consistent closer in the house? Shingo?
